  1. Calling this completed - before I make it worse Definitely a fun build - learning all the time.... now its time for the big one ! And the Arty Photo
  2. Slow progress, due to the nice weather we have been experiencing in the UK . Interior Green with a bit of black and dark wood colours make up the internal paint scheme , and cockpit instrument decal - which of course you will not see very much - if anything when all buttoned up ! Benches attached to the sides almost ready to close her up
  3. Work has continued even in the nice weather we have been having in UK , which has dragged me outside for DIY jobs The small fiddly bits on the underside have been attached and she can stand on her own legs ! Next Step is a Matt/Satin coat , and maybe a little more weather with pastels (though not 100% sure)
  4. That is amazing! - Makes me want to dig out my kit , but I doubt I would be able to finish it this well
  5. I think I kept above the 10000ft HardDeck , Jester is very much alive ! I the word's of Cher 'If I could turn back time - I would have purchased a 2Bobs Tinker Toy decal set' But I did not so I have had the fun of creating a full set of home made decals - it makes modelling more fun , the 2nd fun part of home made decals is that all the different decal fix / softeners I have used eat away the ink on the edges so there is a 'blending' process , if you have to print on white decal paper. This is what I have ended up with
  6. Finally plastic has been cut and assembly has been started (Far too many projects modelling and home on the go !! ) The office area : and other internals ready for priming and good old interior green !
  7. One word SUPERB !! That is a cracking build
  8. That is looking really good - homebrew decals are great fun (i keep telling myself!)
  9. A quick update .. on version 4 of decals , trying to get something that looks acceptable !! , and I have finished 'The Mig 28' . So here is where I am at:
  10. Yes masking can be really frustrating , I have had my fair share of disasters ! but sometimes they come out really nicely - this one was scary and took hours (though not as many as my F-35) but was rewarded with a great finish
  11. In the current trend of covering Skyhawks with tape and tack - here is my entry 6 hours later ..... 'Good morning Gentlemen , the temperature is 110 degrees ' to quote Wolfman 'Holy S**t its Viper'
  12. That looks great . the decals have gone on really nicely - 60's & 70's Navy schemes are the best !
  13. That is looking fantastic , a great job on the Camo scheme
  14. Nice Blob of BlueTac and Tape ! Everything is looking great so far , great modelling skills !
  15. @modelling minion I am currently using Mr Hobby Aqueous Acrylics mixed with their Self Levelling Thinner approx 40:60 , and airbrushed at 20psi using an H&S Infinity with 0.4 mm needle As to the actual mixes I have no idea of proportions - I used what paints I had on the shelf e.g. Flesh , Sail Colour, White , Radome , Red Brown, Kakhi Drill etc (lived up north too long , hate wasting paints )
  16. A couple of coats of Mr Hobby and a sealer coat of gloss , before the hard task of applying all 4 decals Next up practise getting a nice gloss finish ! and attach the small pieces
  17. SO nearly a month goes by and I have rewired the garage added some inline smart controllers - locally controlled home automation (I do not want China knowing when I turn on a light / 3D printer etc ) , repainted the decking and done hardly any modelling !!! But some progress has been made (in between the RL jobs lots of procrastination on colours, as usual! ) Got everything dusty playing with the flaps Then sprayed some home mixed tan Finally at lunchtime today another homebrew colour (definitely lighter in natural light )
  18. 'Most senior officers regard as the most vital to our success...the bulldozer, the jeep, the two and a half ton truck, and the C-47'. General Dwight D. Eisenhower - Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces in Europe For this GB I will be building the Airfix Dakota III / C-47 Skytrain using the latest Airfix boxing - Though I will be making Decals to represent an aircraft from 34th or 43rd Troop Carrier Squadron they were part of the 315th Troop Carrier Group based at RAF Spanhoe in Northamptonshire - from there they took part in both operations Overlord and Market Garden , but my build will depict an aircraft from March 1945 when they moved to RAF Boreham in Essex where they carried elements of the 6th Airborne during Operation Varsity, This added another aircraft to my 'Essex based - US aircraft during WW2' The kit and the sprues all nicely wrapped up: The kit even includes a Jeep so I will get 2 of Eisenhower's vital 4
  19. That looks great , a really super job Well Done !! ... my Skyhawk is still black .. procrastinating on the shades of tan, brown and green LOL
  20. Thought I had nothing for this GB ..... but in my stash I have Airfix Dakota kit , Italeri Horsa Glider and Airfix B20 Canberra (with designs on becoming a T17 , T17A ) so I am in , hooked on GB's now
  21. @RC Boater Bill , as a relative newbie here , I restarted modelling a couple of years ago after the best part of 30 years away .. I blame seeing the Airfix new tool B-17G .. it brought back memories of cut fingers , humbrol cement and 'A Bit O Lace' risky artwork. GB's of any type are awesome no matter how many models you have built , your skill levels etc. I find them a great source of help and advice - from reading other peoples work in progress threads or by asking questions on mine. The real plus side for me is that is gives focus on finishing a model ... otherwise all my models would be 90% finished sitting of the shelf of 'I will finish it sometime' . I know my 1/48 Revell Tornado build came out 1000% better because I built it in the STGB last year - all the fellow builders there were so helpful
