  1. Thanks for the kind words everyone All the chipping for this was done with masking fluid (Gunze Neo). I did consider using hairspray but I don't think it would have given the right look. It was a pretty simple process really, using a sponge to apply the fluid and just trying to match the chipping to the studio model as closely as I could. In the end it deviated quite a bit but at least you can tell what it's supposed to be The shots probably show the process better Base coat and first layer of fluid Pink mid tone applied followed by more fluid overlapping the previous layer Red-brown applied Then the fluid removed I used the same method for the upper hull And the main thrusters Thanks again Andy
  2. Boba Fett's Slave 1 Finemolds 1/72 Hi everyone This is Finemolds 1/72 Slave 1, Boba Fett's customised Firespray patrol ship, built August-September 2014. I added some fibre optics to the cockpit instrument panel and backwall along with LED accent lighting and hull lights. The paint chipping was done with masking fluid applied with a sponge. Paints are a combination of Vallejo, Tamiya and Gunze. The long term plan for this is to construct a maintenance bay dio for it to sit in, hence the removed hull panels and port blaster. Hopefully, I'll get a chance to do that this year, time permitting. Hope you enjoy the shots *2019 Update* I was looking over the original shots I took of Slave 1 recently and, to be honest, they were embarrassingly shoddy. On top of that, I've also added a little extra weathering since the build was finished, so overall it seemed like a new set of photos would be a good idea. The extra weathering mainly consisted of some additional brush painted chipping to enhance the existing masking fluid chips and a bit of post shading with some heavily thinned Tamiya dark brown, particularly over and around the glazing which had looked a little too clean and shiny before. I didn't have a battery to hand when taking these shots, so the lighting isn't on. I'll leave one of the original shots at the end so you can still see it lit up Hope you enjoy the new shots Thanks for looking Andy
  3. Having built the MiniArt 1/35 version and knowing how small that was, the detail you've added to this is amazing Andy
  4. That's a fantastic build. I like the modulation effects you've achieved. Those Hobby Boss 1/48 kits really are great value, pity they haven't added more to the range.
  5. Thanks Brian I've only built two Meng kits, this and the Tortoise and in those two kits they've become my favorite manufacturer. They really seem to go the extra mile with their models. Andy
  6. As Mike said above, Creative Models is a great shop. Personally, I get a lot of stuff from Model Hobbies and emodels. Both will ship to Sweden if you can't find somewhere local. There's lots of diorama accessories available in 1/35 so you should be able to find something suitable. I'll try and post some of my Warhammer builds on Britmodeller when I get a chance. All the best Andy
  7. Thanks for the responses everyone, much appreciated It's just the base coats and the mud weathering in the main. There's a little bit of chipping around some edges which was done with Vallejo Black Brown. This shot shows the chipping and weathering on the hull a little better. Thanks Andy
  8. Thanks Dave Probably easier if I show you the painting sequence It was base coated in Tamiya XF-81 RAF Dark Green That was highlighted with a mix of 80% XF-67 NATO Green and 20% XF-76 Gray Green A second fading layer was added with the same paints but with the ratios swapped (20% XF-67 & 80% XF-76) The previous step left the finish looking a bit pale and pasty so I added a colour wash with Vallejo model air 006 Camo Light Green. I also picked out the bolt heads and other small details with Ammo 934 Russian Highlight After that some washes were added with brown, blue, yellow and green oils I also did some toning and shading with Vallejo 966 Turquoise. That was just brushed on then feathered with a clean, damp brush Sorry for the long post, hope it helps All the best Andy
  9. Beautiful finish. I really like the subtlety of the weathering, especially on the side skirts. Andy
  10. Renault FT-17 Riveted Turret Meng 1/35 Hi Guys This was built back in August last year, finished in about a week as it was such a fun build. Although it doesn't include the full interior of the previous cast turret release, the addition of a full vignette base more than makes up for it, especially as it retails for nearly half the price of the first release. I thought the multi-part nature of the hull and turret would make the fit iffy but it went together really well although the eagle-eyed among you might notice that the rear hatch on the turret is on the rear right instead of the rear left were it should be which is very much down to me not paying attention, not the kit. The base sand was airbrushed but I hand painted the green and brown camo as I couldn't face the masking job required. Wish I'd changed the coil springs for ones a bit thicker but I couldn't find anything suitable at the time. Hope you enjoy the shots A couple of the finished build before being based And the finished vignette Thanks for looking Andy
  11. Hi HÃ¥kan Great to meet a new modeller. Your diorama idea sounds like a great place to start. As to your questions, there are plenty of good online retailers in the UK who will ship to Sweden, check the shops section on here. I'm sure there are good online retailers in Sweden too. There are many good brands out there; Tamiya, Trumpeter, Hobby Boss, Dragon and MiniArt all produce good quality models. Some of the cheaper brands can lack detail and may have poor fit but can often make good models with a little work. For painting and weathering check out the work in progress posts on here. Youtube also has plenty of tutorials. 1/35 is the standard military modelling scale and has the largest choice of kits but 1/48 is also a good scale especially for dioramas. There's not as much choice in that scale but most of the main subjects are covered. Hope this helps All the best Andy (PS, I do some Warhammer modelling too, I'd love to see some of your work)
  12. As you say, the original wouldn't have been seen like this but I decided to add some weathering to give it some character. Call it a what-if if you like. Thanks Dave, the colours were all Gunze; H333 Extra Dark Sea Grey, H48 Field Grey and H74 Sky. The roundels were done with a custom mix; Red = H33 Russet with a little yellow added as it's a bit to blueish in the pot and some black to darken it, Blue = Tamiya XF-8 Flat Blue with a little black. Thanks Andy
  13. Great little scene and the birch base really adds to it. And the figure painting is fantastic Andy
  14. Great looking build. As you say, it looks better with plenty of stowage. Really fine paint work too.
  15. Fantastic work. The way you've picked out the panels is superb.
  16. You've made a fantastic job of this. Must pick one of these up myself.
  17. Thanks very much Brian, much appreciated Andy
  18. Supermarine Seafire FR.46 Airfix 1/48 Hi Guys Airfix's classic Seafire, build March 2014. I got this as a present from my cousin so, as it didn't cost me anything, I decided to splash out on a few AM accessories to tart it up a bit. so in no particular order. Quickboost resin seat Quickboost resin exhaust Barracuda resin wheels Rob Taurus vac canopy Montex paint masks (only used for the roundels) The Taurus canopy was pretty much essential as the kit part doesn't fit in the open position and mine was badly fogged anyway. The Barracuda wheels were fantastic, I'll definitely be using their stuff again. I was expecting a nightmare with the Montex masks but in the end they worked really well although it was a little nerve wracking pulling them off at the end, hoping that everything was in register. The only other additions were a few scratched details in the cockpit (which you can't see) and some brass tubing for the gun barrels. Hope you enjoy the shots Thanks for looking Andy
  19. I really like the way you've highlighted the cloak. The stone effect for the skin is excellent too. Great work Andy
  20. Depends on the film stock and any filters that may have been used for the period shot. The red could easily end up looking darker than the green. I think your OK sticking with the way you've got it since, as you say the colours are correct for the flag.
  21. The Tamiya 1/48 kits make great little models and you've done a fantastic job on this one. All the best Andy
  22. Thanks for the kind words These were shot with a Canon DSLR. There's some info regarding my set-up here http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234975711-trumpeter-2s3-akatsiya/ Hope it's helpful Thanks again Andy
  23. Hi mate Hope the salt chipping goes well but if you're still interested in trying hairspray, I currently use a Morrisons own brand one. I've used natural and firm hold and they both work well. Really, any cheap stuff will work. I've also used AK chipping fluid which works fine too but is obviously a lot more expensive and I've found it has a tendency to bead on the surface whereas hairspray gives a more even coat. For paint most people recommend Tamiya although I get good results with Vallejo too. Artists watercolour works very well too, especially for winter white wash finishes. In all cases I thin with water and mist the paint on as it can activate the hairspray in you spray it too wet. I also prefere to clear coat the base layer before adding the hairspray but it's by no means essential. I did these test pieces last year This is Vallejo white over hairspray All the best Andy
