  1. Some Buccaneers were painted overall Grey before the outbreak of the Gulf War. The Desert Pink colour was a ATF paint and the nose art were painted in enamels, so when the a/c returned and the ATF was basically washed off the nose art remained over the original colour in this case Grey.
  2. Again you’re trying to base you argument using a 50ish year old photo, and one where the upper surfaces of the a/c are White and in direct sunlight and the Light Aircraft Grey on the fuselage which is out of direct sunlight. Look at the nose area and wing fairing area in the photo, the Grey is different to the fuselage(take a pixel sample if you wish), but we know it isn’t, it’s just a trick of the light, reflection and refraction, then you have what they call “adjacency effect” “The Adjacency Effect (Contrast): White makes adjacent colors appear deeper and more intense. Conversely, placing white next to a color makes the white take on a shade opposite to that color due to the "Adjacency Effect".” The picture of the nose leg on the German Tornado. I was actually going to refer to this yesterday. The colour of the outline on the German Cross is White we know this, but isn’t it obvious that the strut is a different colour(again take a pixel sample), are you going to tell me that the leg and the hub are different Greys, cause they sure look like it in the photo, but no they’re the same. You can pull photos until your heart is content but all you’re doing is trying to convince yourself that it is White because that’s what you want to believe. As said twice already, I worked along side Tornados for 10 years. I saw them close up 5 days out of 7, on the flight line, in the maintenance hangars, undercarriage on/off, old/new, frames totally stripped out and I can tell you there wasn’t any White painted surfaces on the Tornado at all(except for stencils/ national/ unit markings). 3. Where on earth are you seeing White. Worked along side Tornados for 10yrs, I’ve seen the undercarriage on the aircraft, off the aircraft and lying in boxes as individual components, always LAG, NEVER WHITE!!! Never trust photos as there are so many variables to be taken into account from weather conditions on the day, camera settings, film type and manufacturer, developing settings, storage of film/images, viewing settings and personal perspective. Trust me 100% they are Light Aircraft Grey, always.
  4. Tag would’ve been Red and Reflective 3M (Silver), never seen a Red/White tag in RAF service in modern times, but your pic clearly shows LAG.
  5. ADV/F2/F3 again were all LAG The Germans, Italians and Saudis are all LAG as well before anyone goes down that route….
  6. All wrong, never White , no change between GR1/A/B or GR4 and the author of the Aeroguide is wrong pure and simple. Difference in appearance between various components due to newer/older parts and wear and tear being used in the make up of the larger part ,yes , but all painted to the same spec of LAG.
  7. Never White, everything was LAG from the outset on production aircraft, the hubs, the struts, the legs, the bays, inside surface the doors, along with the air brake struts and bays.
  8. No need to apologise, time plays havoc with the memory pretty sure there’s things I can vaguely remember from 30 yrs ago.
  9. But he’s wrong…so if you want to have a misrepresentation then crack on. I worked along side Tornado’s myself(TMF, line maintenance, stores etc…). They may appear White when new and clean against the Darker Greys and Green in the camo scheme but I can confirm they were Light Grey. White undercarriage is an American thing, can’t think off the top of head of a single British or European a/c to use White in those areas. The same question is often asked for the colour of the AGM-88 HARM, often citied incorrectly as White, rather than the correct FS36622 Camouflage Grey, why? because again the contrast between the lighter grey and darker greys and greens confuses the human eye. I can’t date the photo exactly but I would say it’s probably 1982/83, and it clearly shows Light Grey against the White CBLS and other stores. Photo credit to Andrew Read
  10. All wrong, no Tornado had White undercarriage or hubs, even the MRCA prototypes were either Silver or Light Grey. There are literally thousands of pictures on the web from the late 70’s to present , and not one shows White.
  11. No they weren’t, they were Light Aircraft Grey, never White. Worked along side Tornados 1993-2003
  12. Thanks for that,,see it clearly now.
  13. What is the difference between their Basic and Detailed cockpits for the Revell kit, both look the same to me?
  14. It would be a possible loadout, but I’ve never seen it. 2x AIM- 120 and 2x AIM-9, 4x AIM-9 or 4x AIM-120 or 2x AIM-120 and 2x IRIS-T. If AIM-120 are carried they are normally always on the wing tips.
  15. AIM-120C on the wingtip pylons, AIM-9M on the outer wing station, 2x AGM-154 on BRU-57 adapter on the wing mid station, inner wing station empty , centreline fuel tank and CFT’s fitted.
