crookedmouth Posted April 22, 2010 Posted April 22, 2010 At 12 days or thereabouts, this was possibly my fastest build so far (the build thread is here). The kit is great (no problems that weren't of my own making) and the plane itself is a wierd looking creature but overall it was not half as much fun as I'd hoped. The paint schemes offered are pretty dull and the level of "wow" detail in the kit is rather limited. Nevertheless, it turned out pretty well for a brush painted model. The finish is the best I've managed so far (despite having dropped the model onto concrete flags just before taking these photographs!) and the preshading does actually come through just right. The panel lines were done using my trusty Pentel P205 propelling pencil and the chipping (slightly over done) using a 00 brush and acrylic silver chrome. As you can see from the last photo, there is a developing air traffic control problem in the study!
crookedmouth Posted April 23, 2010 Author Posted April 23, 2010 ..another impressive build and finish..! Thanks - I was wondering whether anyone would notice the RFI
_H_ Posted April 23, 2010 Posted April 23, 2010 I can't believe how quick you work and still get a great finish! Really like that mate but it begs the question....whats next?? Howard
M4rk Posted April 23, 2010 Posted April 23, 2010 Nice job, very impressed with the finish you managed with brush painting as well, I don't think I'd guess if you hadn't already said so. Quite a busy holding stack in your study now! Do you dust them regularly (or at all)? I always used to get so annoyed at how dust could seemingly adhere itself to my kits on my shelves when I was younger and refuse to shift from the recesses, to the point where I kept them in my Mums china cabinet whether she liked it or not!
crookedmouth Posted April 23, 2010 Author Posted April 23, 2010 (edited) I can't believe how quick you work and still get a great finish!Really like that mate but it begs the question....whats next?? Howard Chaps Thanks for the kind comments. I'm not rushing it at all, but given that I've completed about 12 models since November last year you'd think so, wouldn't you! However, the models do seem to finish themselves quite fast. Sometimes the outcome is as you might expect (a bit shoddy) but sometimes it comes together quite nicely, like this one. I couldn't be doing with spending months on a single model (hats off to those who can). I'm starting to get the hang of brush painting acrylics. I think the trick is to thin them down and apply several coats over a godd layer of primer. The Pfeil took three coats and I think I should have thinned down further and gone for 4 or 5 coats perhaps. What's next - another 190 the Eduard F8. I'm hoping to do a "scene" with it. Nothing as ostentatious as a diorama, but just a base and some ICM figures to set off the model... Edited April 23, 2010 by crookedmouth
eng Posted April 23, 2010 Posted April 23, 2010 Lovely build, and I agree with your comments regarding acrylic's. I can see why they nicknamed this thing the Anteater too. Its nice to see some people still choose to hang there models - Brilliant! My room when I was younger used to have the BBMF doing a level pass in one corner whilst there was a full blown 4 v 4 TopGun maul going on in the other corner and a Vulcan doing a nice wing over too. Great work, Eng
ChancerUK Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 Great finish especialy for brush work, the panel lines in pencil worked well. As for time scale I thank it makes sence to set a project time for models. I try to work to 4 to 6 weeks for each project. This provides a motivator if I'm getting bogged down. I like the ceiling display.
Kuchiki_Rukia Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 Love it, just saw one of these in a movie. Love the room you have setup as well.
Buzby061 Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 Nice job. I never realised they carried bombs. Pete
crookedmouth Posted April 25, 2010 Author Posted April 25, 2010 Again, thanks all for your kind comments. They're much appreciated.
