A nice little kit from first inspection.

DVIlargeBoxArt.jpg

The plastic has a bit of flash on it, but there's a lovely little white metal engine and some PE (cockpit, Spandau's, control horns..)

And what's better, is that the kit can almost entirely be covered in decal lozenge so I won't need to paint much, and there's not much rigging!

I've started work painting up the cockpit. Will post pics when I can.

Far too much rigging for you, dear boy. :P

Good to see Mr Mojo has returned. I'm finding it hard to maintain my mojo... It's an age thing ^_^

As usual, bugger all's been done and now it's deadline.

At 40 years old, I still get recurring dreams of going into an English A-level having not read my books. Pattern? Maybe..

I'm going to see if I can make the deadline on this. It'll give me a break from the Tonka.

The only thing I've done is paint the etch cockpit, but it's not finished.

I printed up some of the lozenge ages ago, and lightened it in Photoshop to recreate the canvas inside the cockpit, and having just dug out my decal paper, will toddle off this arvo to get some more printer ink and print it off. Once that's done, and the cockpit's finished, I can seal the fuselage up.

Is the deadline still the end of the month?

Ok, well lets see how I go.

The cockpit's almost done. Just need to add the control stick and seat.

Photo etch cockpits.. Urggghhh..

I've scanned the decals, and made decals lining the inside of the fuselage. Not great, but it'll do.

Should hopefully get the cockpit closed up today.

The rest of the kit looks like hard work. Hard, brittle plastic. Lots of flash. Lots of drilling required to get the struts fitting properly (no locater holes etc).

I tell you Nick, you must have the patience of a saint.

Looking forward to the next update.

It was a bit of a tight squeeze getting that PE frame in, and it did get a little squashed, but hey. Vot to do?

Have started work on the engine, and will now need to crack on with the sanding.

Cheers,

This kit's chuffing awful. Not the worst I've ever had my paws on (that misfortune goes to the Gull Wings Macchi 202), but not the best.

Hard, brittle plastic that shatters, nothing fits, and there's flash (aaaaaAAAAAAHHHHHHhhhhh) everywhere.

Hoping to finish it before the deadline.

The tailplane is on, and the wings are assembled.

They were a nightmare, as each wing has a top and bottom half, and the fit was rubbish. Took a long time to sand with 150 and 220 grit to get them to fit properly.

The next step is to drill into the sides of each lower wing, fit some metal tubing, and then insert that into drill holes on the side of the kit, as there are no lugs, and the locator pins are s***e.

I thought this was going to be a quick build, but it's horrible!

Don't get me started on the struts yet.

Hoping to make the deadline.

Dog, dog, dog, dog,

Dog, dog, dog, dog,

Dog, dog, dog, dog......

Spent a frustrating afternoon fitting the wings. The fit is crap, and I had to drill more holes into both the fuselage and wings, superglue pins into the wings and set them using graph paper as a guide (bearing in mind they wouldn't go in straight), a sprue/glue mix and weights to keep them level and symmetrical.

I'm not so sure of my methods, but am hoping for the best.

Early Eduard kits..... Urggghhhhhh. Enter the box at your peril.

The wings are ok, and the fit was fine.. They needed a lot of sanding down, which I did most of this afternoon with 220 grit. Still a bit more to go, but then, most imperfections will be hidden by decals.

I just spent an hour re-drilling the strut holes. They look large, and are, but will give me enough to play with when I'm fitting them as the pins are quite large.

Next step, more sanding, drill a few more holes to make sure the undercarriage will fit, and that all the PE control horns are taken care of, and then, a paintjob for the cowling cover and on with the decals.

Patience and saint are two words that spring to mind!

Talk about perseverance. You deserve a medal for this one mate.

It's very nearly gone in the bin..

Decals are going on now.. Nightmare. Full wing/fuselage decals, with plenty of overlapping to work with, but very brittle.

I got lazy today and decided to brush paint the cowling and wheels, and they look s***e. I am no brush painter. I'll strip it off and spray tomorrow.

It's on the home straight. Actually, no, it's not, but it should be done in time.

You have my sympathy, just be thankful there isn't a lot of rigging!
