Well here is the first of my planned builds my Airfix 1/72 Buccaneer with a few extras.

The pile of whitemetal bits is a couple of C Scale sets I found in the bottom of the spares box.

This just some of my many Bucc decals, I just cannot decide which one to make.

Well it was a busy night last night hacking and chopping away at the plastic but here is what I have managed to do last night;

DSC00824.jpg

The Airwaves set comes with etch parts for the cockpit but they looked to flat and besides I could not sleep because it was so hot last night.

DSC00825.jpg

I saw in alot of photos that the later RAF Buccaneers had the wing fold hinges removed so I cut the opennings using a saw and dimond file.

Although this is where being up till 2am begin to catch up as the opening for the arrestor hook was cut out and backed with plastic but I managed to get it a litlle wonky. :shithappens:

And finally I had a go at improving the kits undercarriage using just a file and a twist drill. As you can see the standard kit part lots very crude, my attempt looks good but it not fully finished and the Aeroclub version before clean up. Only problem I got is that the kit parts need filling as they are not properly moulded, I am not sure if I will use the kits offerings or the Aeroclub parts?

:speak_cool: Looking good there Windy. Like you say amazing what you can get upto when you can't sleep, seam to do some of my best stuff then too.

Your undercarriage work looks good, would stick with your detailed kit parts personally.

The Aeroclub nosewheel looks much better, but the main gear wheel doesn't seem to be much of an improvement.

Awesome work, Windy.

I really like the scratchbuilding you've done in the cockpit, and your improvements to the undercarriage. I'm looking forward to your progress on this Bucc and the CMR kits if you get 'round to them.

Cheers,

Andrew

Hi Guys,

Well I have progressed but slowly. I have had trouble as I used some milliput as filler however I must have not mixed it correctly or it is out of date but the damn stuff has not hardened and I now need to dig it all out and start again. But I do need help, I am looking for the resin conversion sets that SAM made a while ago. I have been on the web but no luck finding one, does anyone have one to sell or swap???

I will post some more photos when I have something that is worth showing.

The latest edition of SAM indicates that the Bucc sets are sold out unfortunately. Good luck searching them out, hopefully somebody here might be able to help.

Hi Folks,

Sorry for not updating this thread sooner but like most people I have a wife that demands I spend more time with her and less time on my beloved models.

Anyway here are some photos of the build so far, as you can see I have very busy scratch build all the details so far.

I have built the wingfold totally from scrap bits of plastic stock and scribed the panel lines on the whole aircarft.

Also I have decided to make my own ECM bullets after I found that the aftermarket one I had where more akin to 1/48th scale rather than 1/72nd, you can see on the photograph the difference in size compared to the scale plans I have. You can see in the second photo how big the original bullet looks, it look far too big.

Hopefully this bank holiday weekend I will get some more done and post some more pics.

Windy, coming along nicely there matey.

Have to dig out my 48 Bucc's and get started on them (along with everything else)

You mention your Mrs demanding you spend time with her, hazzards of marrage I suppose, I get back from being away, head straight for the model box and I get winged at!! spend time with Mrs OzH (MkII) and all the little OzH's, no time for modelling!

I pack her off to the outlaws once in a while, that gets me some peace, best one is to get her and her bessi mate off to a health club for a couple of nights, gets me in the good books and i get loads of work done!!

Keep the updates comeing..

Well folks sorry for not updating this thread earlier but I have been very busy with the day job. :shithappens:

The kit build is coming along slowly, much slower than anticipated due to the problems of all the scratch building and reshaping. The latest problem is that I have taken so much plastic of the nose that it has infact gone almost right through and I am current trying to save it from disaster. The wingfold is basically finished and the airbrakes need a bit more work. I have already attached the tiny aerials and probes as they alway seem to be very difficult to attach once the model is painted, only problem is they are very easy to break of during painting. I am being to wish I never bothered with updating the old Airfix kit and built the CMR kit instead, but where is the fun in that, besides this option is a lot cheaper. But to take my aching mind of the Buccaneer build I have started work on a Herritage Aviation Lightning F6 that I bought to have a second build to run along side the Buccaneer. It too is a slow build as with all resin kits I am still dealing with removing the parts from the pouring blocks and sorting out all the tiny bubbles that plauge every resin kit I buy. However it is beginging to take shape and when I do finally get my blasted diital camera to work I wil post some photos on the site.

Fingers crossed I will get these kits built before I deploy to Kandahar for my summer holiday this year :fraidnot: :fraidnot: :fraidnot:

You've got two CMR Buccs? And they keep saying the Forces are under paid? :P

We are underpaid but my wife is not as she does not know that I have these mega priced lumps of resin hiding in the spare room :evil_laugh:

Well I now have a semi working digital camera (I cannot get it to focus when up close) so here are the photos promised ages ago. The build it taking longer than I thought but hopefully it will be finished by next weekend hopefully and I can get cracking on with my other entries for the group build.

Well I have been busy tonight. I have done some more scribing of the fuselage and painted the main parts of the kit. I decided to change the intended colour scheme as I took a fancy to the Gulf War nose art on a few of my decals sheets and took the plunge. I did some pre shading and use Allclad highly polished aluminium on the shiney parts, however I have realised when I was taking the photos that I did not do the tailplane leading edges :shithappens:

Anyway I hope you guys like it so far and I will try to keep this thread updated more often from now on.
