This one does not make me any smarter and it doesn't put the thread back on track to the 109 in the beginning - but I thought I ought to show it anyway

and to help you to improve your German and explain the emblem:

https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blinde_Kuh

Blinde Kuh (blind cow) is German for

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blind_man's_buff

the blindfolded cow bears the two yellow stripes of the Blindflugschule's planes (warning everybody else) and Blindflug (blind flight) is "IFR", Schule being a school.

...but isn't that the exact pic from the AK booklet? With the (presumed) scratched-off patch of 65 on the Wanne? And one thing I'm pretty sure of without having that much expertise on 88s is that it's not an A-1, but an A-4 or later. One thing I learnt early is that the Airfix 88 is not an A-4 but an A-5 (or possibly a hybrid) because it has round cowlings without the bulge for the whatever was in it.

Same pic, way better resolution, slightly more vivid colors (still a bit pale), less cropped.

(still an "early case of "84"" - maybe it is moss or algae or just yellowed binder)

Great pic, no mistaking. And I don't mind it looking like Sky; Sky is a great colour. The three kits I most recently finished (which is VERY relative) all had Sky undersides.

Ah. I see that the dreaded cache of captured paints has returned.

To all doubting the leaked, yellowed binder I offer the true story of the Aviatik Berg D.I 101.37, preserved at the Vienna Technical Museum.

For years the a/c was described as being in "mustard yellow and dark green" sawtooth pattern camo. Then the a/c was cleaned, and the colors were revealed as two grays, the top layer being yellowed and stained with dirt.

And as fair warning, read Jamie Duff's account of why Colourcoats Royal Navy colours differ from previously-held beliefs.  (Quick answer,  chemical leakage from aged paper.)  What Jamie did was go back to the original ingredients and recipes.  Which is also what has been done with Luftwaffe paints, so we can place rather more credibility on the actual colours than the photographs.

So the Ju88 "just needs a good clean" - and underneath all the dirt, algae and colour shift debris, we will see a layer of pristine RLM 65... ;)

Someone already started at the gondola front, but stopped short of finishing 100cm² 😉 Must have been a laborious task...

You can't sweep the floor or exercise a funny salute (with your right arm) 7x24 and some of the time between shooting sessions and shoe polishing must be killed by other exercises. So the military hands out identification cards or booklets to help poor soldiers kill some time. These cards and booklets usually show a small black dot (sized like the droppings of a fly) and a caption.

Imagine the allies' shock when the Luftwaffe changed from RLM 65 to RLM 76 on some but not all planes! They had to train all AA gunners and plane spotters all over!

A nice website about Greece includes a tiny bit about aircraft identification
