Flying Gecko...1/48 Ling-Temco-Vought A-7E Corsair II, VA-22 "Fighting Redcocks", USN

Recommended Posts

After all the yellow wing subjects, it´s time for some more modern USN stuff.

Gonna do a Hasegawa A-7 with TwoBobs decals, representing the XO aircraft of VA-22 in the second half of the 80ies, which received a special livery like the CO.

Wow, nice colour scheme choice. I took part in the Crusader-Corsair GB elsewhere on BM. The Hasegawa kit is a beauty, I'll follow your build with interest.

left the kit seat, right the Aires seat with PE parts

most probably gonna use the kit seat with the PE stuff

btw, the kit comes with an the early and the late seat, as far as I could identify on the only pic I found online, this aircraft had the late seat

Hasegawa provided two PE parts that should be mounted between the "rods" on each fuselage side and the main body, but kept them off

only sanded and filled the mold ejector areas, did nothing with the seams between the intake halves, hard to correct/fill these long ones

depending on how visible they are in the end, bought the two part self adhesive vinyl intake cover from Steel Beach accessoires

some more decal progress

the decals are very thin and tend to wrap or tear during applying, had to puzzle together the red cock on both sides

Besides that, although my good old dad has lots of experience, sometimes he doesn´t pay attention. The tail code for the left side was printed upside down on the decal sheet. My dad applied it that way.....but four eyes see more than two. When I realized his mistake and told him, luckily he could turn the decal into the correct position because he hadn´t treated it yet with Mikro Sol.
