CF-188A Hornet question

Recommended Posts

Hello- I am modelling a Canadian Hornet from the early 1990s and need some detailing information.

I have seen a lot of images of Canadian Hornets without LEX fences, especially from the 80s right up

to early 90s. I thought like the American ones they would have had them by the mid 80s? Also did the

Canadian Hornets have the red edged gear doors, same as the USN ones? Think I am seeing that in the

early Cf-188s. Thanks---John

Not sure. I did see someone one here building a Navy one and a CF-18 together and comparing the small differences, sometime this summer I think. Have to look for it. It seemed pretty good.

CF-188 got the LEX fence in the late 80s and were all equipped by 90-91.    Also got the Vert tail cleats around the same time

I do believe the red edge doors do appear on the CF-188.

They are hard to see, but yes they are red, the edge is so small. https://www.milavia.net/airshows/cfb-trenton-quinte-intl-airshow-2016/view.php?f=123

I have a book from '83 when they were new and they had red then to.

Here's a very clean example http://www.airport-data.com/aircraft/photo/001363550.html

Yes, the red edge doors are there. It didn’t stop me from cutting my skull a few times . I know why they were painted red, to conceal the blood marks. 🧐
