Heraldcoupe
I'm looking at making or buying a carrier deck base to display some FAA aircraft. The subject is likely to be HMS Ravager or one of the other lend-lease carriers, so a US design in RN service. http://www.royalnavy...AGER_Gllery.htm I see Eduard produce exactly what I need in US Navy configuration, but what colours should the Royal Navy carriers be painted? Not just the wood, but the metal areas, as well as the flightdeck markings. Thanks for any help, Cheers, Bill. John @ WEM
Aboard HMS Battler: In this case, I would say the deck is still stained with USN Flight Deck Stain 21.

Test Graham
Presumably they came as part of the fit. US-built ships were fitted out to a different standard than those built in the UK, although sometimes luxuries such as a laundry were stripped out rather than make our lads soft. Test Graham
Small ships, not the big ones! I shall revisit the books to find out just what it was that was stripped out - I thought it was the US-style laundry but other things such as central messing were thought non-RN. OK, the reference is in Poolman's Escort Carrier 1941-1945, page 75. "When it was used, the laundry was a great boon to the ratings, especially in the tropics, but on some of HM ships it was frowned on as a needless luxury and not used."
