  1. After the One-O-Four (http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234965275-148-lockheed-f-104g-starfighter-by-eduard-hasegawa-rebox-released/), Eduard is to rebox in the same way (with their usual add-ons) the 1/48th Hasegawa's Douglas A-4 Skyhawk kit. 2. Hello all, I'd like to present a bit of a 'side' project for the next month or so. Any 'Top Gun' fans out there may have an idea of what the title means, but to wet your appetite: Dogfight I plan to make a scene similar to the video above with a mighty F-14 chasing down a diminutive A-4. The kits: VF-124 decals for the F-14: References: I don't have any references for the A-4 bar the internet. Both will be mainly OOB except for the addition of the decals and a Master brass pitot tube for the F-14. I'll load both of them with ACMI pods from Hasegawa weapons set D. I have a wooden base and I plan to drill holes for brass tube to display both the jets at 'dogfighting angles' Dave
  3. Good afternoon people from a wonderfully sunny Norfolk, Ok. I'm very slow at building kits, and hence this never got finished for the scooter group builds.... The lesson there is I probably shouldn't get involved in them, which is a shame because it's great fun getting involved with everyone on similar builds. When I get a bit quicker.... Anyway, the story so far can be found here: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234946329-172-airfix-a-4b-skyhawk/#entry1400745 Now things have moved on a bit. I've missed a few steps, but here we go: and some bits and pieces: Basically, the painting process was preshade (with black), Tamiya matt white on the bottom, destroy preshading as it was too strong, post shade with Tamiya Buff, re-paint with white, paint the top side with Xtracrylix required shade of ghost grey. It was glossed up, decalled (Airfix decals are truly excellent, especially compared to the Tamyia ones I've been using), glossed, washed with Flory's Grime, glossed, oil streaks, Alclad Matt Kote. That's where I'm up to. I'm thinking of adding some streaks with weathering wash as Phil did on his Phantom build on Flory models, but will see.... Thank you for looking Val
  4. A-4 Skyhawk Ejection Seat with safety belts 1:72 Quickboost by Aires A decent ejection Seat can help tremendously with the look of many models. No doubt thanks to the new tool kits which have emerged Quickboost have brought us a very well moulded A-4 Seat in 1.72 scale. This is the ESCAPAC seat designed by Douglas. The seat comes as one part complete with molded in seat belts (for those of us who lothe PE!. A very small seat firing handle and a very fine top of the seat firing handle are also on the casting block, though I struggle to see how the last part will be removed without breaking it, its that fine! While for the A-4 with a little bit of work this could be used for many of the aircraft which were fitted with this seat. Highly recommended. Review samples courtesy of distributed in the UK by Hannants Ltd.
  5. Oldmodels Decals has released the following decals in Digital format: 1/144 Viscounts – all four NAC schemes and SkyBus 1/48 Raytheon B200 Super King air – RNZAF 1/32 T/A-4K Skyhawk – RNZAF – SEA, Euro1 and Final schemes. All subjects are a re-work of existing inkjet decals (still available) except the B200 which is a new scale for the Red Wings kit. When releasing the first tranche I forgot to mention the A4 last scheme and Macchi decals have been upgraded by the addition of the white formation strips. These are the first batch of tranche 2, others in the tranche which includes some A320, B737, ATR72, F27, C130H, P-3B, B757 and all my Vampire schemes will be issued progressively over the next two weeks as time permits. I have also updated my website to give updated information about the Digital Decals (see page About Digital Decals) and a new page Digital or Inkjet? to aid decision making about which to buy – it is definitely a horses for courses trade-off like everything else in today’s world. Of interest to some may be the statement that the colours and white are solid – even on gloss black – I have tested this. The decal ink also contains a UV protection built into it – no need to hide your model in dark corners to prevent decal fade from sunlight. These are available from my website, www.oldmodelsdecals.com and within New Zealand through TradeMe. John Oldmodels Decals
  6. Built for the A-4 group build. Scratch built flaps, nose gear collar, bridle hooks, aileron inhibiting plates, Landing light (with white cover), tail light, RBF tag and windscreen wiper. Other than that OOB. Build thread

  8. I'm building the Airfix A-4 Skyhawk and am a bit confused by the horizontal tail. The Skyhawk clearly had conventional elevators and yet there's also a spacer plate on the fuselage that seems to create a gap between the horizontal tail and the fuselage. Did the Skyhawk have both conventional elevators and an all-moving tail? Basically, should I fill in the gap between the horizontal tail and the fuselage or not?
  9. Here’s my attempt at Hasegawa’s A-4C Skyhawk. It’s the best-detailed 1:48 Skyhawk available now, though quite expensive and hard to find now. It’s an out of the box build, except for the True Details ESCAPAC aftermarket seat I added. I used kit decals to finish it the markings of VA-15 Valions deployed aboard USS Forrestal, on their 1969 Mediterranean cruise. For weapons, I wanted something different, so took a bit of artistic license and an educated guess and loaded it with a B43 nuclear weapon on the centerline pylon.
