  1. The original Matchbox Jaguar kit had missiles that looked like they were meant to be AS30s. John
  2. STIRLING - like the town in Scotland and the racing driver, not Sterling like silver!!! John (in Stirlingshire)
  3. Take a look at this thread over on the ATF http://airfixtributeforum.myfastforum.org/...light=jamiesons John
  4. Mike Starmer's thoughts on RAF Blue/Grey can be found on page 2 here: http://www.mafva.net/PDF/BritishCamouflage2.pdf John
  5. Mike Starmer recommends Humbrol 112 Tarmac, but thats a deleted colour. His alternative is 4 parts 77 to one part 67. Straight 77 would probably be ok for "scale effect". John
  6. No access to the cockpit, sorry, John
  7. Don't know if you've seen them already but I posted a load of photos of LA198 in this thread: http://www.britmodeler.com/forums/index.ph...&hl=glasgow John
  8. Apparently the Falkirk Council archive doesn't have a photo of the wreck so next step is Falkirk Local History Society, who did a major survey of the Pow Burn and its environs to identify and record James IV's royal dockyard. The talk of sabotage in the article linked above seems a bit melodramatic to me. John
  9. Is that the guy from 57 Rescue? I remember hearing about the salvage attempt at the time and thinking "yeah, right!". The Forth is a pretty serious river, even at low tide! John
  10. Its lying in the shallows off the mouth of the Pow Burn. Whether you can make much out or not depends on the condition of the tide. The aircraft exploded in flight, so its parts of the nose and tail that are usually visible. I've asked the district archaeologist if the wreck has been photographed and if any turn up I'll post them, failing that he and I may be getting our wellies on! John
  11. You're right about the markings Edgar, in fact at the time I thought they had mistakenly printed the roundels in black and brown. It did have quite a bit of stencil data though. I also forgot the sliding canopy! I don't remember the colour scheme details but the box art had it finished in a brown and grey scheme. John
  12. Well, assuming it's the same kit, I built one in 1970 so it isn't new! It had operating control surfaces, a removable engine panel, retractable undercarriage and it was the biggest and easily the coolest model I'd ever built. John
  13. Thanks gents. It did indeed crash into the River Forth, rather than the Firth of Forth, a few metres upstream from Kincardine Bridge. The wreck is still in the shallows of the river. The pilot, Squadron Leader R G L Baxter and one of the gunners, Sgt William Bartlett, were buried in the military plot of Grandsable (Grangemouth) cemetery. The others were returned to their families. It's one of my medium term projects to build a model of this aircraft for Grangemouth Heritage Centre. John
  14. I'm trying to find out what mark ED548 was. I assume it was a "I" but may have been a "III". Thanks! John
  15. I used to buy Precision for generic colours when I found them. If anyone's selling the range at the Scottish Model Railway Exhibition next month I might pick up a few. You can find lots of interesting things in model railway paint ranges! http://www.howesmodels.co.uk/Railways/view...php?SubCatID=76 John
  16. http://www.phoenix-paints.co.uk/humbrella.asp John
  17. Thanks for the input chaps. The bottom line seems to be that my original list is reasonable, maybe except for the brown. As I said at the begining I do have a reason for using Humbrol, otherwise I probably would be using XtraColor or similar. John
  18. Hi Paul. Thanks for that. I thought 63 was supposed to be a green/grey, in fact isn't there a strand of speculation that 02 and 63 are the same shade and just vary in application? I am, however, no expert! John
  19. Hi Dave. That's an interesting list, but I have some worries about it. I see it gives 86 Light Olive as a match for 02, whereas 86 is exactly what it says on the tin - light olive green. Humbrol 115 is the old Russian Undersurface Light Blue, which he quotes for 63, and as I remember that colour its much more of a blue than a grey. John
  20. I don't know how the Matchbox kit would score in terms of detail against either of these but I'd bet the mortgage it would be a damned sight easier to build! John
  21. Near enough is definitely good enough in this case! John
  22. OK, I'm the first to admit I'm not an avid Luftwaffe modeller but I need to track down some Humbrol paint matches, or even reasonable approximations, for RLM colours. For the purposes of the exercise they do need to be Humbrol matches, rather than ExtraColor or whatever. What I've gleaned so far is: 02 - 31 Slate Grey 04 - 154 Insignia Yellow 61 - 10 Service Brown 62 - 117 US Light Green 63 - 28 Camouflage Grey 65 - 65 Aircraft Blue 70 - 91 Black Green 71 - 149 Dark Green Are these reasonable, or would there be better alternatives? TIA John
  23. I'm actually wondering if the BS381 version of the SEA scheme might be better. If I recall it was Dark Green 241, Middle Bronze Green 223 and Dark Earth 350. John
  24. Let me re-present the great Sky Brushout Test! Tamiya is among the darkest of the generally available acrylic Skys, Gunze is a bit yellow, Humbrol is a bit lighter and the rest are in the same ballpark. John
