  1. Thanks for looking in, and the kind words chaps. Next was to strip down the engine parts and the rear gearbox etc. All the pieces were cleaned up and then reassembled and given a coat of primer and then ally and matt black. The rear suspension frame parts were a MESS and had to be sawn apart - so hefty was the glue. Once cleaned up it was all rebuilt by drilling and pinning each part so that the components now move as they should. Finally, the pieces were painted and fitted to the rear end along with the rebuilt brake parts. The fuel injection system was cut apart, de-glued cleaned, repainted and rebuilt. The injectors and velocity stacks were cleaned up and the broken injectors drilled and pinned. Finally, all fitted back to the engine block. On we go...
  2. Here's a current project - a box of basically scrap parts from an Entex 1/8 Lotus 72. A TERRIBLY built model which somebody then decided to (roughly) break into pieces. It was painted black, then orange, and then black again. Last coat with a brush. Most of the assembled parts are so heavily glued together, I'll have to do what I can. The project - ? Bring this old girl back from the grave. Upon inspection and careful dismantling where possible, I found a large amount had been put together wrong. Location pins - broken off. Fixing tabs - broken off. Locating holes and slots - filled with glue and broken plastic. Fortunately, it does seem that most of the car is here. The first job was to soak all of the body parts in Mr Muscle (for over 2 days - 3 coats) to get most of the paint off. The main tub was then cleaned up and given a coat of primer and then blue - yes, BLUE. I did have to cut and make the extra air vents in the nose section. Not too much bother. I'm going to make the rarely seen Walker/Graham hill car so I had to design and print my own decals. Let's see how it goes.
  3. ...I'm pretty sure it would have had wheels... lol.
  4. If yours was a foot long it would have been the Bandai kit. They pop up occasionally on Ebay and can go for funny money. There's a part-built one on Ebay right now: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vintage-Bandai-GARRETT-1919-Steam-Traction-Engine-1-16-scale-Model-Kit/274516458771?hash=item3fea74bd13:g:gWMAAOSw0M9fbKZi
  5. If you mean the '72'...? I got it from a contact who's had it for a long time.
  6. Yet another 1/8 Lotus 72 has joined the pile. However - it's a box of bits. I'm hoping I can bring it back from the dead...
  7. Brilliant stuff...! This is probably the absolute 'Holy Grail' model car kit - EVER - in terms of quality, detail, parts count - you name it. It FAR surpasses any Pocher kit in terms of the number of parts and the INSANE detail. I thoroughly enjoyed my build and I've always thought that one day, I'll build another but modify it to a drop-top IF my build is of ANY use, it's here: I'll be following yours with great interest.
  8. Hello there. On the back burner at present but not forgotten. I'm currently up to my ears on a Tamiya 1/12 Lotus 49, the giant Edai 1/8 Porsche and a 1/4 scale Williams... Anastasia will get sorted.
  9. Well, it's all sorted. I'm fairly happy with the result bearing in mind how it started out. Creating the decals took a while but I got there in the end.
  10. Many thanks for the kind words chaps. Here we are now - a gloss coat on the decals. When it's really settled, the next job is to put it all back together...
  11. They are great as being sponge, they conform to the shape you are sanding...
  12. I remove the mould lines by dragging a sharp blade backwards over them, then a final sand with a sponge nail file block. Always works for me...
  13. Great book - I've built the 1/12 Tamiya, and currently soon to start my 4th giant 1/8 Entex kit... Just love the '72...
  14. As a little time-filler when I'm building models I like to salvage old wreck Corgi and Dinky toys. This one is the little Lotus 72 from Corgi. It was a £1 piece of junk when I got it. It was dismantled, stripped, repainted and I created new decals for it which was fun. It needs a gloss coat to make the matt decals blend in and then reassembling. Keeps me busy...
  15. Amazing stuff going on here. I can remember a string of posts on this very forum a few years ago where there were LOADS of people saying 3D printing will never impact on this hobby... Almost laughable now. I'm VERY tempted to take the plunge and get a printer for my large scratch-build cars... I'm watching this build with great interest.
  16. I built it long ago - a great little kit. Mine is bronze & cream/red interior...
  17. If you want it exact, go to a large Halfords. They will mix the real colour based on reference they have for thousands of paint colours. Smaller Halfords don't have the facility. A large rattle can is about £15 but well worth it if you want accuracy. I've used them loads of times to get correct classic Jaguar and Aston Martin colours.
  18. Great kit - I got that one too last week. I won't be building it for some time so I'll be watching yours with great interest.
  19. Another one joins the pile... This one will be built Rob Walker Racing...
  20. Great work going on here. I've bodgellated 5-6 of these big Revell kits over the past years. Always great fun. Here's a link to one I converted to a Cunningham race car a friend of mine actually owns. Some of my waffle might be useful?
  21. Yes, it was Western Models. There's a small decal on top stating it.. Sadly they went kaput long ago so spare parts can't be had now.
  22. This one isn't THAT big... About 3 1/2 - 4 ft in length., still VERY big. It will be fun to try to resurrect this heap of scrap. I'll post a few more pics of what I have soon.
  23. This enormous thing had been consigned to the bin. It was made for the Williams team long ago and somehow ended up being totally demolished. The plastic box contains most of the other parts but a complete strip-down and rebuild will be needed. The two rear wheels are missing but I'll get those sorted. Hopefully a fun project. The trouble is, WHERE will it go when finished as it's the best part of 44" (1120mm) long...?
