  1. Very nice build of a good looking Harrier.
  2. A friend of mine helped wire the Bucc up, so that all the lights worked. He told me it took quite a few drill bits to get through the Buccs skin. Blooming shame they scrapped her instead of trying ot find someone to take her on, she wasn't in a bad state as far as I can recall.
  3. That looks great. I remember building that kit back in the 70's, not quite so well as you have mind.
  4. I'll be up for this, not sure what i'm going to build yet though.
  5. I'm not sure yet, but I'm looking at the KA stands on the WEM site, although I quite the block type stands, so may make some newer, narrower blocks.
  6. WEM have a Russian cockpit colour HERE
  7. Managed to do a bit more this evening. I'm going crosseyed with all these bits of brass. Still, I'm getting there.
  8. I've built her sister ship the Abdiel and she had wooden decks on the maindeck with a steel deck fwd of the first breakwater and the area under the ships boats. All other decks were steel deck grey.

    Brushing WEM paints.

I currently use WEM paints and have never found the need to use thinners when brushing, (which is most of the time).
  10. They're great Danni, thanks for posting. I like the exhaust blanks, looks like you light the fuse and retire for starting.
  11. Looking good so far. I did wonder about the black stripes. Will be interested to see how it looks after the deck is painted.
  12. Not to mention Matapan, Narvik, Salerno, (hit by glide bomb), D-Day and numerous other engagements in WWII when she was already an old lady.
  13. Lusty is the nickname for HMS Illustrious. Particularly the new Airfix 1/350th scale kit that is due to be released very soon.
  14. Have ordered two from Hannants. One to build as is and one to save until my scratchbuilding skill have improved to alter her to Invincible 1990.
  15. Oh she definitely had a mind of her own Phil, but she wasn't an unlucky ship. She was damaged quite a bit throughout her career, usually because she was always in the thick of the action. As IG has stated, she really should have been preserved. I guess it was all about money and after the war GB ltd didn't have any.
  16. Not much done this weekend as I took advantage of the good weather to sort out the cars. Did manage to do some brass work. All major parts have yet to be glued, as I've found this the easiest way to do all the detailing.
  17. Far from it, well, except for the 82 shells she was hit by during Jutland. She had at least two or three major updates throughout her life. .
  18. Could someone in the AM business PLEASE make a resin/brass set that can be used to make the ship backdatable? I really would like to build Invincible as she was when I served on her, so that will require a new fordeck opening and the Seadart launcher and gazebo, oh! and 909 radars and/or domes.
  19. Oh feck! I've just told myself that I would not buy any more kits until I've thinned my collection down a bit. But this is a must have, as my Grandfather served on her as a stoker during WW1. Has anyone got an actual release date, or is it a case of, "we're going to release it, but we're not saying when, in case we change our minds"?
  20. I'd like to see reviews, latest/future releases, looking back at older kits and how they can be improved, building tips and how to guides. Oh and don't forget about any AM stuff that is released. Ta
  21. That is fantastic, top job. It's models like this and the Felixstowe in another thread that makes me think I should just give up building models. Perhaps my standards are too high for my talents but whilst I aspire to build something like this, I know i could never do it justice.
  22. Cheers Nick. I'm not going to keep going on about dirty SHAR's. It's how I remember them so, when I get round to building the models I have. it's how I'm going to build them. BTW I was on 800sqn with David Morgan. An absolutely brilliant pilot and a very nice officer, even though he beat me to win the aircraft and ship recognition competition on the trip home from the US in 1990.
