What followed was really satisfying session or two adding all the parts that I'd painted, decaled and clear coated weeks ago. The van has got his hat on... Now, the kitchen roof has this skylight that the instructions call for painting it in the body colour... ...however I was compelled to make things more complicated by going for an opaque bleached plastic look and having it posed open. Tamiya semi-gloss varnish with a drop of buff and thinly sprayed: A rudimentary opening mechanism was fashioned out of styrene strips: And then very carefully put into position: With hindsight and looking at the pictures, I think it would have been better to mimic a rubber seal around the edges and the frame in the roof. If it falls off - which it has already - I might be tempted to risk that with a marker pen. Anyway, on with the rest of the roof decorations, serving shelves and wipers: On with the flags: @SnรธMotion, never mind sitting down to order, I think you might have to crouch now the drapes have been added... Final decals applied to the windows and mirrors fixed into position: And I think that just about wraps it up: The eagled-eyed amongst you will have noted I've completely missed painting the cab side indicators. They're something I've frankly pondered far too much time on but in the end decided it would have been too much of a faff to mask and paint at this stage. If was doing this again I'd probably sand them off and then fashion some new ones out of some wing tip lights in the spares box to add at a later stage. Another thing that's occurred to me after taking the gallery shots is that it's crying out for a weedy little exhaust poking out the back. More pictures will soon be winging their way over to the gallery. This has been a fun build (glazing debacle notwithstanding) and a wonderful GB with a diverse and colourful range of subjects. Thanks to our leader @bianfuxia and for everyone who has stopped by with words of encouragement and patiently queueing in line This noodle van's in business, who's first? ๐

1/48th - Jaguar GR.1/GR.1A by Airfix - Q1 2025
Rob Sutto replied to At Sea's topic in The Rumourmonger
I'd say the absolute earliest that Airfix would start showing us some ankle on a twin sticker would be Telford. Though January would be more likely. -
Just wrapping up my Give Peace a Chance build before focusing on this one. I've made a tentative start, update to follow soon

Strictly speaking that was the Jewelled remix (the remixes of that song is whole rabbit warren in itself). It's from 85, though, and deserves to go on the playlist in its own right I reckon: Edit: This track should come with an advisory not to listen while at the wheel because you WILL want to drive sideways. Another edit: ...and your satnav will automatically redirect you to Kielder Forest.

Top marks for bringing up Fuzzbox, definitely one of the overlooked acts of the decade.

Pilatus PC-12 of Okavango Air Rescue - FINISHED

Given how the red looks slightly different in all three reference pictures I wouldn't stress about it. It's looking fab either way -

Nicely done, Cliff -
That's a good point, though my first thought was that it looked like it was being de-iced. Sorry, I've wanted to change it for a while now, but hoped that retaining the thumbnail pic would provide some continuity, so it's a relief that it worked. Indeed it is from the Burn The Witch video. The Wicker Man meets Trumpton, what's not to like?

OK noodle fans, the gloss is on: I only glossed the cab in an experiment with textures. My reasoning was that the rear section would not be made of metal, probably a composite of some sort (like the kind of material that caravans are made of) so I left it satin. Now onto the cab glazing where I ended up going round in circles The one piece part was scuffed and grazed, which required a going over with fine sanding sponges, though my usual polishing sticks (which work great on aircraft canopies) didn't clean it up very well; so I had to break out the rotary tool, polishing pads and compounds to buff it up: You'll see there's a stubborn moulding artefact on the left pane that wouldn't shift, but the worst of it will be hidden by the A pillar. The fit in the cab is not great and when I glued it in, fitted the cab interior and rear bulkhead I noticed a massive thumb print on the inside of the left window - quite an achievement considering I was wearing gloves when fitting it It was all gently pulled apart, the thumb print wouldn't wipe off (I'm thinking it was some paint or glue residue on my glove) so it was back out with the rotary tool to polish it up again. On the second attempt I got it in without any drama, glued in the cab interior and rear bulkhead and left it to set overnight, only to be greeted with this sight the next day: This pillock had used superglue - and lots of it because of the bad fit - and by fixing the glazing, cab interior and bulkhead at the same time the glue had little space to gas off with no ventilation (there's only a little hole in the roof) It was pulled apart for a second time to see if there was any chance of recovery: Luckily, the fogging mostly manifested as a powdery film and was wiped away, though a third visit to the rotary tool polishing shop was required. Now looking somewhat battle-scarred, it was ready to go back in: Third time lucky, using only sparing dabs of superglue and each piece given substantial drying time: It's not perfect by any means and hints of the battle-scarring can be seen around the edges, but I'll live with that. While all this was going on I was painting up the kitchen with acrylic paints and markers. It's very crudely done and crying out for super detailing, but time's running out so: The instructions leave the mounting of the chassis right to the very end, but with all the trinkets, accoutrements and sticky out bits that this thing has, that approach would be a one way ticket to breakage central - so on it went. Not far to go now. Fingers crossed I can get it wrapped up this weekend. Sayonara noodle fans! ๐

Good news! Some decals have arrived for the number plate from Fantasy Printshop. I'm hoping the 3mm ones are small enough for 1/24. I might test some on a car in the stash that's got a UK standard plate. There's some paint on the way too. And that's about it, Jadlam still have the kit listed as due in April Meanwhile I'll leave you with this...
