  1. I'm probably biting off more than I can chew with two builds, but I feel duty bound to do some real space. Many of you have spoken about the space programmes or individuals who inspired you at an an early age. For me it was the Voyager probes. I remember being captivated by a Horizon documentary which I'm guessing would have been after the Neptune flyby in 1989. I built probes out of Lego which were sent out to explore the far flung reaches of the bedroom. For many years later they were found up on top of the wardrobe, on shelves, under beds. You all know this already, the Voyagers expanded our knowledge of the solar system and beyond immeasurably. The pictures of Io, Europa and Enceladus changed how we thought of moons and sowed the seeds for future missions. Voyager 2 is still the only spacecraft to have visited Uranus (quiet at the back!) and Neptune. Voyager 1's famous Pale Blue Dot picture put humanity's existence into perspective and is the furthest human-made object from the Earth. The thread title is borrowed from a Steve Martin gag/sketch following the launch of the probes and the publicity surrounding Now That's What I Call Humanity the golden record. The set-up involves Nasa or a psychic receiving a signal from an alien intelligence which has been translated and distilled into four words. The only clip I can find frustratingly omits most of the set-up: I've been after this kit for a while, but managed to find one not going for silly money/exorbitant postage on ebay: It comes with a small planet Earth stand, but I've got grandiose plans to mount it on a gold record to continue the Chuck Berry theme.
  2. I found a couple of the old Superbase series in a charity shop recently and have been picking up a few more on ebay. If you're into the 80s Cold War era then they're great mojo fuel (pretty much like most of Osprey's titles).
  3. Everyone will be building it wings folded, surely?
  4. Looking great Wiesiek. I really like the repurposed tank wheels, very convincing.
  5. Do we know if it comes with a driver and two kids in the back?
  6. Sorry to hear that, I think it might be. They're showing ok for me in Edge and Firefox. ... maybe it's turning on the cloak by itself
  7. That to me would be a very wise choice. I can see how it would very easy to get bogged down in the detail of trying to build an accurate replica of a structure that changed so much over time. That's a wonderful story, thanks for sharing 🚀
  8. Cracking effort, I love the figure, detail on the engines, finish, the display stand... pretty much everything really!
  9. That's come out really well. Superb weathered finish and nice touch with the stand.
  10. I'm chiming in with another thumbs up for the stand, it looks very convincing
  11. OK space cadets, the primer is on: Good old Mr Mahogany Surfacer 1000 making it look more like a Turd of Prey. The wing 'humps' were given a coat of XF-56 metallic grey: Then comes the green. After much chin stroking, I went XF-51 khaki drab as a base colour: Next step I think will be a light coat of XF-49 khaki to lighten it up and take it from there. Qapla’!
  12. Great idea, welcome aboard. I look forward to seeing how you go about this
  13. Cracking job Paul. Just be careful where you put that thing, because if you stand on it you're gonna know about it!
  14. Wonderful. The 9F is my favourite loco; designed for sheer brute force to lug coal up and down the country. Good luck with your build
  15. That's pretty much how I look when, despite all best efforts, I find specks of dust in my paintwork.
  16. Now that is just pure filth I'm another fan of the Flory washes, they're very easy to use and controllable.
  17. Looking good Wiesiek, nice and methodical work. If this was me I'd be struggling to resist the temptation to clutter it with everything from the spare box!
  18. Go for it, you don't see all that many downed allied aircraft. I was thinking of getting the Sherman but they all sold out pretty fast at my nearest store. There were only a couple of Spits left last time I looked. Your build's coming on nicely. The drop of paint in the clear coat is a nice trick I hope to try soon.
  19. That was my first thought too. Very beefy! Much better than the old AMT Star Trek kits where the stand were very much an afterthought.
  20. Thanks everyone. Scratch building to that extent will be a strange new world for me, but by breaking down the shapes it doesn't look too tricky to do. What could possibly go wrong?
