  1. Okay, this is turning out to be the build from hell. No pics incomming because mye fiancé formated the SD-card without know I hadn't upload the pics to my PC yet. Then mye niece came visiting. While we adults was in another room she proceeded to "help" me paint it. It was colourful, I'll give her that. But totally wrong colours. After she painted it she appearently thought: "Hmm. This is a plane. Let's make it fly!" and proceeded to "fly" it down the stairs. Currently sanding and trying my best to repair the damage done. I might still salvage it, but it wont be pretty.
  2. Unfortunatly this project has been put on the backburner due to illness and the holidays. I hope to get back to it soon.
  3. Well known issue. My P-38 rattles like a rattlesnake. Fortunately it only sits on a shelf.
  4. Looking forward to the day I've got your skills, Jake. Very nice indeed.
  5. There's been quite a lot of progress, but due to my Internet being FUBAR I haven't been able to upload pictures yet. Hopefully I'll be able to do so tommorow. I've put together the cockpit, joined the to halves of the body and just finished putting on the wings. Pictures to come.

    Canon lens

As a layman you can just ignore it. It means that to get the same field of view on a Canon 5d you would have to get an 80mm. You basicly get "extra zoom". The 50mm on APS-C sensor in the 1100d is 1.6 times smaller than the sensor in the full frame sensor in the 5d. That means that the 35mm on your camera has about the same "zoom level" as a 50mm on the much more expensive 5d. The 50mm on your camera equals 80mm on the 5d. As for what lens you should choose the EF 50mm f/1.8 II gives you very good value for your money. It is very sharp and fast. If you want anything better new from the store you'd have to go a lot up in price. Edit: Darn you and your ninjaing skills, chaddy. You beat me to it!
  7. If you've got an account there, please feel free to post the pics somewhere else and link them here.
  8. There was a war so they ran out of the correct colour (AKA I'm not doing it again.) The carpet monster just ate a decal for the left side control panel (the one next to the pilot) so I just painted those dials black. Good news though. I found a part that was MIA on the FW 190 i did a couple of builds ago.
  9. So I was doing the instrument panel and this happened: I will never understand how people manage to apply the decals on the panels without f-ing up. Decided I could live with it. Gonna be a closed canopy anyway. Instructions say Tamiya Xf-22 for the panel. Since my local store don't have Tamiya colours I went with Vallejo 830. According to this chart that would be about the same. For the blacks I have used Humbrol 85. One of the blacks should have been Humbrol 33 according to the chart, but whatever... Close enough for government work.
  10. Oh, and if anyone has done this build and has some tips for things to watch out for don't be afraid to speak up. This will be an out of the box build BTW. No aftermarket parts or decals.
  11. Thanks for all the tips. I have, reluctantly, started a WIP thread where I will post my progress.
  12. I'm still pretty new to scale modeling. Well, that's sort of a lie. I built a lot of them as a kid. But as an adult I've only been doing this since June. This will therefor maybe not be the most incredible looking build you'll see this year. But, hey, it's about the process, not the result, right? On top of that I'm painting by hand and not using airbrush. My painting skills are not the greatest since I've been blessed with the gift of arthritis. That's enough with the excuses. Now to the build. I picked up this gem at a local store. I was originally planning to do a Spitfire build, but they were out. They're getting new stock next week, but I had to have my fix right away. Looking through the box it seems like a very good print, and I'm certainly looking forward to this project. For now there's not much to post. Just starting doing the cockpit. Pictures will be posted as soon as I have something interesting done. Please be kind to me. It's my first WIP.
  13. Wow. Thanks for the quick reply. Have you done this kit yourself BTW?
  14. I just picked up this little gem. It has three options for colours and decals. However as usual the manual only shows the colour schemes in black and white. Is there somewhere online where I can find this in colour?
  15. Reuters is now saying that the pilots are believed to be alive. https://twitter.com/Reuters/status/669191195986366465
  16. Well, since we're talking about Blue Origin it would be fitting that a kit would be announced AFTER it's done and not before.
  17. I found it on a Norwegian news site called Dagbladet.no Their source is the Turkish Armed Forces. Here's the article run through Google Translate: https://translate.google.com/translate?sl=no&tl=en&js=y&prev=_t&hl=no&ie=UTF-8&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.dagbladet.no%2F2015%2F11%2F24%2Fnyheter%2Futenriks%2Ftyrkia%2Frussland%2Fsyria%2F42101106%2F&edit-text=
  18. Very sad. According to this radar image it seems they were indeed in Turkish airspace. I would guess that the pilots chose to take a shortcut over the border to save time. I don't think they would have been authorized to violate Turkish airspace. But that's just speculation on my part.
  19. And give up a highly strategicly important location like Turkey? I think not. I'm not going to be political and say if they should or not. Just trying to be a realist. At most NATO will condemn the shoot down.
  20. According to BBC that's what the Turkish military reports. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-34907983
  21. Correct me if I'm wrong, but to my knowledge there haven't been a NATO intervention in Syria. There are NATO forces, yes, but that is individual countries. I still believe Russia will continue to coordinate with countries like France and the US. It's in their own interests. I would be surprised if this comes to an all out shooting war. No one will benefit from that except ISIS and they all know it. Too late. SAS have been in Syria since January or something. Yeah, They seem to have been a bit triggerhappy. Yes, it was in violation of their airspace, but really? That's a bit of an overreaction in my book. But I guess Turkey was fed up by the incursions. It's not the first time. They probably felt they had to "make an example", but that could have been done by warning shots as well.
  22. If you mean post-Soviet era, then I think so. If you include the Soviet era, there have been quite a few just by US forces alone. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air-to-air_combat_losses_between_the_USSR_and_US I highly doubt it will amount to more than economical sanctions. Putin isn't stupid. It's not certain that it lost all engine power or manouverability instantly. Besides, what's the glide slope of the Su-24? I'm asking because I don't know. According to reports on social media sadly at least one of them is dead.
