  1. @CplPunishment @Troy Smith Thanks for the input on the rudders I'm looking at picking up another Airfix 14 to do as an 18, so I'll either nick the spare 14 rudder from that or use the broad chord VIII rudder Cheers, WV908
  2. @CplPunishment Thanks Looks like I'll be re-profiling the XVIII rudder Into an XIV one then Cheers, WV908
  3. These are the rudders I have available for the conversion; Hasegawa IX rudders on the left, Airfix XVIII bottom right and the spare from the Aeroclub Seafire conversion top right, although I have absoloutlely no clue what mark it's actually for; Cheers, WV908
  4. @Graham Boak Thanks for your reply. I think it's actually an XVIII rudder that I have spare - it's whatever came with the new Airfix 1/48 kit I'll have to compare the XIV and 22/24 props to see if the difference is noticeable enough in 1/48 before I muck about re-profiling prop blades Cheers, WV908
  5. Hi all, I'm wanting to build a MK.21, obviously I know the old Aeroclub conversion is around but it's not the most cost effective thing to buy when they do appear. I do however have the Seafire conversion which requires a Mk.9 kit - I have the said Mk.9 fuselage spare from this conversion (Aeroclub + Hasegawa) and was wondering if I could purchase an Airfix 22/24 and simply replace the cockpit section and rear fuselage with that of the Mk.9 and a spare Mk.14 rudder to get a 21? Cheers, WV908
  6. I can't help with the request but I would certainly be interested in the information as I intend to build ZZ191 in her current scheme in 1/32 too! Cheers, WV908
  7. Going though available records, K series aircraft with 41sqn in 1939 (in delivery order) include; K9831 (PN-A?) Crashed 30/01/39 K9832 (PN-B?) K9833 (PN-C?) K9835 (PN-D?) K9836 (PN-E?) K9837 (PN-F?) Crashed 08/06/39 K9838 (PN-G?) Crashed 16/03/39 K9839 (PN-H?) K9840 (PN-I?) K9842 (PN-J?) Crashed 23/05/39 K9844 (PN-K?) K9845 (PN-L?) Crashed 03/04/39 K9846 (PN-M?) Left 17/09/39 K9847 (PN-N?) K9848 (PN-O?) Crashed 20/04/39 K9849 (PN-P?) Crashed 14/09/39 K9850 (PN-Q?) K9843 (PN-A?) Crashed 30/11/39 K9855 (PN-R?) Crashed 04/11/39 K9890 (PN-S?) Three blade prop K9856 (PN-T?) Crashed 27/04/39 K9991 (PN-G?) Three blade prop Going on the reckoning of, or rather taking a blind stab in the dark at the idea of the aircraft gaining the next-in-line code letter as they arrived and equally filling in a gap in the sequence for a lost aircraft, the above list can be arrived at. This would mean it is likely that Eduard's PN-M is K9846, which had it's codes changed to EB-M, lost the two blade prop and early canopy and was flown as one of Sgt Ted Shipman's mounts before leaving the squadron on the 17th September 1939 to join 616 squadron. She sadly hit telephone wires on takeoff from Catterick on the night of 06/11/39, taking F/O Overall with her. Unless concrete evidence can be found otherwise, I think this is what I'll go with. I have so far found four photos of this aircraft to work from. Cheers, WV908
  8. To add more mystery, it would appear that the aircraft I'm looking for was one of two regular mounts of Sgt Ted Shipman, the other being EB-L N3126. The first of Shipman's mounts, EB-M is captioned in a series of two 1939 photos here; http://www.spitfiresocietyeastern.org.uk/form 57.html It is mentioned that the aircraft has just recieved it's three blade prop and replacement canopy - with Eduard giving September 1939 for PN-M, it would be very reasonable to assume these are the same two aircraft. The problem? EB-M has no serial quoted either! Cheers, WV908
  9. Hi @Ossington Thanks for the link - I can only see the previews unfortunately as my attempts to sign up haven't worked. I have managed to find a photo of 41sqn's PN-M, but it is a very poor photo accompanied by a very vague caption that gives away no details of a serial or date, except between January and August 1939. Cheers, WV908
  10. Hi all, Does anyone have a list of the Spitfires that 41sqn had on strength in September 1939, hopefully with individual squadron codes? I can't seem to find anything backing up Eduard's PN-M being K9832 Cheers, WV908
  11. It's funny because in your linked story, the writer gets XM594's engines wrong haha! It's a shame there's no 100 series on the sprues too as technically, if airfix did another two separate wing sprues and another tail cone on a sprue with new intakes we could have a B1 too. Logic dictates that the B1 sprue would have the 100's anyway. Similarly I expect the eventual K2 sprue to have the payload bay fuel tanks, as was done with the Victor boxings (It would be silly not to do a combined XH558 / K2 boxing considering she was one) Cheers, WV908
  12. The 200 series are below the tail cone halves, the 300's are to their left on the same sprue. Cheers, WV908
  13. Hi Ray, That makes an interesting read - thanks for the link. It looks like she was built too late to get the two bladed prop, but I think the most surprising thing in there is that she was kicked out of Hendon to make way for the EH101! Cheers, WV908
  14. Is the Cosford Mk.1 accurate in having a three bladed prop, or was it simply that nothing else suitable was available during the restoration to Mk.1 configuration so she kept a three blade prop? I'd quite like to build this one, but in strictly wartime condition. Cheers, WV908
  15. If it's getting to the point where we're having to pick over tiny cockpit parts that may or may not be there in what is a very tiny cockpit in 1/48, I think we can safely say it's a good kit! Cheers, WV908
  16. @flarpen Looking at comments both on Facebook and LSP (and through limited conversation with Jetmads myself) the Draken is pretty much confirmed anyway. It's more a matter of when than if. I think another manufacturer is doing the Tunnan, but expect to see a Lansen at some point too. Cheers, WV908
  17. Scheme 'B' coded PN-M has two potential serials listed; K9831 and K9832 Does anyone know which aircraft this actually is? Also I'm failing to find photo evidence of K9953 ZP-A in the condition in which she has been depicted by Eduard. Cheers, WV908
  18. Hi again all, Further to this, looking though the instructions, N3180 (Kiwi) and K9953 (ZP-A) have neither fuselage or tail serials. Marking option B (41sqn PN-M 1939) doesn't even have a serial listed in the description, never mind not having one actually on the aircraft. K9831 and K9832 are mentioned in the bio for the scheme but it is not mentioned which it is. Is anyone able to elaborate on these three aircraft please? Cheers, WV908
  19. Thanks for the replies everyone, Reading the linked thread, it does seem to be a bit of a minefield with nothing official attached to it. Cheers, WV908
  20. Afternoon all, My Eduard 1/48 Spitfire Story double-boxing has just turned up and whilst perusing which schemes of the 10 available to build, I note that half the options do not have serial numbers on the aircraft. Was this a common practice with early Spitfires and did these aircraft eventually gain serials, or did they have them and they were removed before combat? Thanks, WV908
  21. Well, I don't think anyone saw this coming! A resin kit in 1/48 of the Vickers-built Nazi Flying Wing from Raiders of the lost ark! Link provided, but as usual if someone could embed it please that would be great https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10220416526074594&id=1574306165 Cheers, WV908
  22. Hi @scottyphbeta Pretty sure I have one of the correct Aeroclub canopies that you need. I did have a project to build a B.35 in 1/72 that I was collecting parts for, but since my switch to 1/48 it's been shelved in favour of converting an Airfix PR.XVI to one. I'll PM you this evening if I find it. Cheers, WV908
  23. I'm glad that Alan has decided to carry on with just these two projects - we've seen smaller manufacturers snow themselves under with too many projects on the go countless times now in recent years (It's even more prevalent in Model Railways) I think it was a good choice for Alan to ditch the VC-10, Voyager and TriStar and he seems to have done well in selling off the Gannet moulds. I hope he keeps in good health and I look forward to seeing the Phantom and Jag progress. It woul be nice to see the Sea King and --- ------- ( ) re-emerge at some point, but only once the Toom and Jag are done and gone. Cheers, WV908
  24. A new 1/48 Hurricane II is music to my ears! Airfix, you missed the boat. Cheers, WV908
