  1. My preference is for Windsor and newton series 7 but Rosemary and co series 33 are great brushes for half the price. I prefer the series 7s because they have larger bellies and so hold a bit more paint. I’ve also found they keep a fine point for longer but that’s just my limited experience. As others have said, brush soap is a must with decent brushes like these. It makes a huge difference in brush longevity.
  2. How many coats did you have to put on with the orange? Looks like it covers well.
  3. Oh that sounds interesting. Im always fascinated by all the different specialist products that are out there that we rarely hear about.
  4. Its harder than plastic when its dry but does sand well and being catalyst cured, it dries fast. Might be worth a look one day. Only downside is that it smells pretty bad!
  5. Looking good! Would automotive body filler not be better for those large areas than Tamiya putty if its expensive? (know im a bit late, your all done on the main body!)
  6. Whatever you spray with, even acrylics, you really should buy yourself a proper respirator and use it all the time when your airbrushing. http://www.amazon.co.uk/3M-Spray-respirator-06941-filter/dp/B0051BNCP8
  7. Small house painting brushes can be good for larger weathering and dry brushing, you can cut the bristle length down if you want them stiffer too.
  8. I thought I was looking at reference photos there! Amazing
  9. Good fix, should be really strong now and hopefully more stable too.
  10. Thank you, ready for me to screw up at the painting stage no doubt!
  11. Most of the landing gear interior detailing added Need to add some stuff on that blank looking back wall and ill be done i think.
  12. Sorry to hear that, no fun when health stops play! He looks great as he is anyway.
  13. Looks great but I agree the eyes would look better with something in them. Personally Id love to see a dilute deep red wash over the whole model too but thats personal taste.
  14. Redid the brakes on the wheels, I think this will look better once its all painted
  15. Thank you, good to know the proper names for things so people know what your talking about. You don't come across them on figures very often. Thanks, I will be aiming for the sheen, the plan so far is a tiny amount of Vallejo air metallics in with grey and black. Will be doing lots of testing before touch the F-22, i suspect its going to be a really hard finish to get looking right. I airbrush and hand paint. The only way I know to get a good finish over a large area with acrylic hand painting is to thin them down to ridiculous levels and paint it on in dozens and dozens (and dozens) of layers. Doing that on an aircraft would be nuts. The airbrush is just an amazing tool even if cleaning it is a pain. Ive seen a couple of builds on here that are hand painted and they look amazing, I guess they use enamels which I have no experience with but I presume can be self levelling if your good enough to paint the right amount on.
  16. GW paint can be a real pain to airbrush, Id suggest buying some vallejo air paints if you want to airbrush in acrylic as they are far easier. The model is looking great btw
  17. Some very dull progress involving moving bulk heads and filling gaps but some photos anyway. Hopefully I can start some more detailing soon. The photo etch applied to the console. Needs some light weathering and matt varnish Building up the brakes, the filler will be filed back when its dried One side of the rear landing gear interior with the bulk head moved about 1.5mm back to allow room for detailing. Air intakes assembled with the front locating pin removed so it cant be seen Interior moulding defects filled (is there a name for the circular dips?) A black chair that will stay black for now until i get some new brushes that actually have bristles
  18. The series 7s are fantastic, in the figure painting world they are basically the best you can get in the uk (dissolving bristle issues aside...) Rosemary and co series 33 kolinsky sable are also brilliant and about half the price. I just thought id give synthetic a go again after all these years and see what they are like now. I will let you know how I get on when they arrive.
  19. I only ever airbrush with acrylics, never had a problem with 100% Vallejo air sprayed at about 20 psi personally but airbrushes can be damned weird things sometimes. Just remember to clean it regularly, solves a lot of problems!
  20. Very nice. I like the foil seats, easy and realistic
