Paul J Very nice chap.Interesting combination of markings and scheme. But the pilot had better have enough money to pay his fine for having his flaps down while possibly taxiing!!! Or has he just landed? Hi Paul-intended for a 'catching the wire' vignette. I'm sure the pilot will happily pay the fine if he avoids the catch fence. Trouble is I need to find a more robust stinger as both my examples have now snapped-not designed to take the tail weight obviously. Thanks for advice re flap indicators-next time, if I decide flaps down, I will cut them out before cementing the wing halves. Vulcanicity Very nice build. What's the significance of the white tail? Thanks for comments V. Should have mentioned decals are from Aeromaster Griffon Seafires sheet-Doh. The sheet states "767 Squadron Deck Landing Control Officer Training Unit RNAS Yeovilton 1950. The post-war Red, White and Blue fuselage roundel has been applied but SX156 still retains it's war-time(sic) wing roundels. The shore base identification codes have been over-painted with an all white tail". HTH best Groucho

Slightly different one to the obvious varieties but enjoyed building it so much I've bought another (intended for the low demarcation EDSG scheme if such a thing existed). No aftermarket extras-straight out of the box Some great features and novel solutions with this kit:- -seat/frame interface -cannon fit -tailplane arrangement are all new to me -aileron arrangement and fit is a lesson to ICM Absolutely no filler was used in this production. Paint all Tamiya mixes with Mr Colour thinners. I did slim the rear fuselage down a tadge but otherwise 'looks like a Seafire to me'. Tailhook snapped whilst taking photos and canopy not glued in place yet so a little bit of work left. Would have liked to open flap indicators but not brave enough. Intend to pose on a section of carrier deck in 'landing on' mode. Popped in a comparison with ICM Mk VIII- Well done Airfix-one to be proud of Hope you like. best Groucho

Found this to be a fascinating bit of film-does the Huntley bit refer to Ian Huntley? Includes shots of aircraft with BPF and standard roundels and shots of aircraft with right wing roundel area painted over from front to back (profile book I have tends to show roundel sized circles of paint). Several aircraft seem to have standard roundels on the fuselage rather than BPF. My burning question though is why do the Seafire IIIs have two underwing IFF aerial rods. There seems to be an extra one outboard and forward of the usual one. Does this denote a different IFF system to the RAF one or is the extra rod associated with something else such as the wingfold system? At one point an aircrewman appears to be reaching towards it as the folded wing comes down. Thanks for the link Joan. best Groucho

Can't get over the detail in this-the earth effects and little roots poking out etc etc-absolutely amazing.

Lovely :- short nosed Griffons are gorgeous (even when Hobbycraft make them) and lovely scheme-nicely executed. Still trying to make my mind up whether to do the Airfix as a 12 or a 15-this may swing it. best Groucho

1/48 Tamiya Swordfish
GrouchoMark2 replied to Vitor Costa's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Can't recall seeing a better 1/48 than this one (and there have been some fabulous models on this site). If the criteria is to have that indefinable air of reality then you sir are at the top of the pile. The fact that such a great model is a Swordfish merely adds to the spice. wonderful. very best Groucho -
ICM Australian Mk VIII-current wisdom seems to suggest this was DFS but looking at photos I think jury still out. Latest Barracudacals certainly grey/green. Still I'm not repainting it. ICM-Seac MkXI. Lots of panel filling but I must do more photorecons-lots of attractive schemes. This one seems to highlight the shape oddities of the ICM-I have a theory on this and no doubt will expound at a later date (nothing like a good expounsion!) ICM prototype Mk V111 lowback-my favourite Spit of them all. Used a 'bastardised' Airfix Mk 47 curved windscreen. New Mk 17 windscreen would be better. Seafire MkII-Tamiya + airwaves wing. Handpainted codes-since found out there is a decal sheet for this-ah well. Attractive for the pale blue undernose (squadron/flight recognition?) Revell 47N-out of the box-again show casualty-lost all guns and undercarriage. Needs work on replacement guns but a very pleasant low stress build That's your lot - still half a dozen half-started and never finished Hood, Pola or the Tamiya 1/32 Mk IX. Maybe in 2011 Have a great modelling year everyone. best Groucho

Been a funny old year-as due to circumstances haven't been involved in modelling since Sept/Oct-hopefully more time this year. Displayed some at Elvington and all suffered transit damage despite my pathetic precautions. Must get round to finishing repairs-etc etc. Anyway here's what I have so far All comments welcome Early Mk IX-Extended Hasegawa with resin nose-needs a few bits and bobs Fujimi 190/A8-out of the box-lost most guns/antenna in transit to show-fix it-fix it-know nothing about FWs except I like em Silver Cloud MB5-lots of U/C damage and flaps held on with bluetack after transit damage. Falcon canopy- needs permanently fixing in place ICM-out of the box Mk XII-ICM body and Hobbycraft (Chinese edition) nose grafted on. Soon as I started it Airfix announced a MkX11 so if anyone has an unavailable subject they'd like produced I can start a conversion for a small fee. Seafire Mk1-Tamiya-still needs a few stencils and gun patches-not sure about IFF and radio aerials for this one More to come if you're really unlucky and I can master Photobucket best Groucho

Hornchurch 54 Sqn Rotol Spitfires Pre Dunkirk
GrouchoMark2 replied to 3DStewart's topic in Aircraft WWII
Sorry to hijack your thread slightly Detail Police but I was intrigued by the link's underside photo with all the gun covers hanging down. This shows both trestle position stencils facing the same way and reading from the wing tip inwards. A quick check of various instructions (Tamiya, Barracudacals, Aeromaster, Airfix) shows they all differ in their opinions of which way they should face. Was this a variable or what was the 'official instruction? Again apologies DP Groucho -
Care with this Jon as I think the cam covers are flat on top although from front to back they will slope in relationship to thrustline. Looked at some drawings and all seem different but the covers must remain flat on top in relation to the Griffon cam covers. These must be flat on the engine to give clearance to valves and cams from front to back. If the engine/ thrustline is tilted slightly forwards-probably- then so will the cam covers. Either way they will be flat on top and parallel to exhaust line until the front curved radius begins-phew. From above (plan view) the outside edges will surely be parallel to match the engine. Photo may help HTH Groucho

Yup. Pink/grey that's a nice scheme-wasn't previously aware of a it prior to WW2 Cruisers profile (believe Manchester was sunk in overall pink and others so painted). Interesting choice Berwick. Damaged in two separate battles with German and Italian cruisers within a month or so. C'mon Airfix- Norfolk/Shiny- 350 scale would sell by the liberty ship load. Groucho

You really are amazing Phil-another fantastic model. Are you using the colour profiles from WW2 Cruisers ? Groucho

Another lovely Mk 1-great time to be a Spit fan. The shots from above look more 1/48 than 1/72 and the canopy looks much more convincing than previous Airfix efforts-probably the modelling. Even got a flare tube on. Somehow Airfix Spits just look the right shape Excellent Martin-if mine were half........etc Groucho
