Manu Posted October 2, 2010 Posted October 2, 2010 (edited) Hi guys, I've begun the Fiat G 50 a few days ago. The kit looks great and the boxart is really awesome. You can see a review here (it's in french, but you can see all the parts inside). http://www.heavyplastic.com/index.php?opti...96&Itemid=2 In fact, if the surfaces look great, the cockpit is quite poor in details, these ones seeming sometimes wrong. I've cutted of what seems wrong to me with a trytool chisel. then, i've refined the seat and its support. All the details in plasticard are missing in the box, but present on the documentation i have about that plane. Even if the cockpit opening is narrow, as i've decided to open a door, i had to detail this cockpit. Nest step is to detail the floor and the left side of the cockpit. As usual, constructive comments are welcomed. Cheers, Manu Edited November 10, 2010 by Manu
Manu Posted October 3, 2010 Author Posted October 3, 2010 Merci Antoine, nice to read you here. Cheers, Manu.
dahut Posted October 4, 2010 Posted October 4, 2010 Very nice scratchbuilding, Manu. You can be proud.
Manu Posted October 4, 2010 Author Posted October 4, 2010 Thanks Dahut for your comment. Cheers, Manu.
Manu Posted October 5, 2010 Author Posted October 5, 2010 Hi guys, i've completed the cockpit, which is quite empty OOB. Next step is the painting in verde anticorrozione primer. Cheers, Manu.
Manu Posted October 9, 2010 Author Posted October 9, 2010 Hi Guys, it seems that the Fiat G 50 is not a popular plane. All the cockpit parts are painted in "verde anticorrozione" (Gunze H 312 + white). All the details are brushpainted with CItadel or Prince AUgust paints. Pigments and a black washes complete the weathering of that area. cheers, Manu.
Jon Kunac-Tabinor Posted October 9, 2010 Posted October 9, 2010 Hi Manu! well I like G-50s - and I like your work too. What scheme will you do for your Finnish machine? salut Jonners
Manu Posted October 9, 2010 Author Posted October 9, 2010 Thanks Jon, i do like the box art of that kit and the scheme that it represents. It will be fun to paint. Cheers, Manu.
KLP Publishing Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 Yes, may I add my compliments too? Good work. Kev
Manu Posted October 15, 2010 Author Posted October 15, 2010 Thanks Kev, This Fiat G 50 is not an easy to build short run. It is much cutted out and all the different parts are not coming nicely together. The putty is necessary. The resin wheel wells insert has not the same size that the underside opening. To fix it, i've used the great Games workshop green resin smoothed with water. I cutted the flaps that were lowered on the ground. Cheers, Manu.
Manu Posted October 20, 2010 Author Posted October 20, 2010 Hi guys, Next step is the engine. Tin, copper and metal wires are used to detail it. The crankcase is painted with Gunze H 53 Neutral grey. Cylinders and details are painted with Prince AUgust. Then, they are drybrushed with graphite powder to make them look like metallic. A black wash complete the weathering. Cheers, Manu.
Manu Posted October 24, 2010 Author Posted October 24, 2010 Hi all, the building is almost complete. THe hardest part is the engine cowler that takes place with time, care and a high dose of profanities. To simulate the hinges, i've used the Archer cast resin on clear decals film. It's applied on a primer and setted with Daco strong in order to make the film disappear. THe most interesting part for me is about to begin, the painting. Cheers, Manu.
spitfire Posted October 24, 2010 Posted October 24, 2010 This is really great, I'm in an Italian phase myself at the moment and I would love to have a G50 in 1/32 scale, though I would be hard pressed to do such a good job as you are doing on this one. Nice work. Cheers Den
Buzby061 Posted October 24, 2010 Posted October 24, 2010 Looking forward to seeing the finished product - looks good so far. I'm wrestling with the SH Seafire at the moment, looks great on the sprues but reluctant to go together. Pete
Manu Posted October 25, 2010 Author Posted October 25, 2010 Thanks guys, Pete : it's the same story with the Fiat G 50, but, at the end, we can be proud of our build !! Cheers, Manu.
Manu Posted October 29, 2010 Author Posted October 29, 2010 Hi guys, Painting has begun. I've started with the "cannibalized wing" where appears an italian comouflage. THe underside is blue (Gunze H 417). Then, the Gunze H 79 sand is applied. Brown Gunze H 47 spots are first airbrushed with a little size. Their size will be modified after the green spots will be applied. To finish, an Highly diluted Gunze H 302 green is airbrushed. THe different shades are faded with a pale sand and the panel lines are highlighted with a mix of brown. To realize the torn roundel, i've cutted a svastika, thickened it with liquid mask before airbrushing white. The yellow is the Gunze H 413. THe rest of the underside is painted in Gunze H 325 to simulate the finnish grey. Constructive comments always well welcomed, Manu.
Manu Posted October 31, 2010 Author Posted October 31, 2010 first step of painting : Gunze H 320 Green. Then, the black, that is not really black but black grey (Tamiya XF 69 NATO black) The result : The green and brown spots weren't large enough, so i've redone them : Cheers, Manu.
Nobby Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 Really nice paint job Manu! That scheme is something else!
Manu Posted November 4, 2010 Author Posted November 4, 2010 Thanks Nobby, There is so much variousness with the finnish G 50. Cheers, Manu.
