crookedmouth Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 Very nearly a year ago, I joined the forum with my first model in many years, the Trumpeter Westland Wyvern. Since then I've built a few more models and learned a few things about the craft (as it were) and wanted badly to give the Wyvern another chance, perhaps to see whether I'd improved at all. Well, here it is. First off, I know that the markings are probably wrong - WN335 didn't wear the bumblebee stripes and if it had, the fuselage number would have been at the back and covered by the stripes. However, I wanted to do a different finish to the first attempt but really wanted to do the Suez markings (well, 335 could have been there, couldn't it?). I also wanted to fill up that enormous nose with some markings. There are also a few silly errors and bodges (painting the canopy with a white undercoat amongst the silliest). Is it an improvement? I think so. I've mastered (or at least improved in) the art of acrylic painting, preshading and panel lining. Somehow the Klear finish is coming through a bit grainy (perhaps I'll give it another coat) but is still miles better than a brush painted acrylic gloss. Happy with this - and, yes, another stupidly quick build. Probably a fortnight.
Irishgreek Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 I like it! The Wyvern is such an unusual looking plane, but I think it's so cool. Nice job and I wish I could finish a kit in a fortnight. Wait, I wish I could finish a kit!
Enzo the Magnificent Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 Nicely done! I particularly like the prep numbers on the bombs.
Homebee Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 Re-welcome to the Wyvern builder club. Nice job. V.P. ------------------------------- http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.p...1&hl=Wyvern
Dave Gibson Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 Excellent work Campbell. It's difficult to believe it's not airbrushed. I like it very much. Dave

Nice work mate Howard I think my fave build so far is actually the Pfeil, but I am pleased with the Wyv You built it the way you wanted it to look, so what? You still ended up with a good looking model.Martin Certainly not apologising for going off into the realms of fantasy, but I think that the model does actually look better with the wheels down than up Lovely build, it's great kit Thanks Mish - almost as nice as yours (almost) Excellent work Campbell. It's difficult to believe it's not airbrushed. Davec_24 Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 Hmm, I like that! Definitely an improvement over your original build, and the panel weathering does indeed look nice.
