crookedmouth Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 Wels, Austria, May 1945. Vienna has fallen to the Red Army and a strong armoured thrust is advancing up the Danube towards Linz. Hauptman Howard, Intelligence Officer of I.SG2, discusses a forthcoming mission with Oberleutnant Gibson. Elements of the 6th Guards Tank Army have been spotted on the outskirts of Anstetten and must be stopped before they reach the Danube bridge! The Geschwader Kommodore is on hand to give advice. Despite having lost a leg to Flak, he is still a force to be reckoned with! Unfortunately, Hauptman Howard is unaware of the danger he is in. Zimmermann's little dog Adolf has planted a "schuh-mine". Watch out Hauptman H! Meanwhile, Feldwebel Oliver is hard at work on Yellow 14's undercarriage, demonstrating the magical properties of speed tape and brass tubing to his maintenance team. They should be able to keep this Wurger flying for a few more days. Historical note: Yellow 14 probably belonged to 3./GS2 a Staffel in I Gruppe (Gruppenkommandeure; Hauptmann Herbert Bauer) of GS 2 "Immelmann" (Kommodore; Oberst Hans-Ulrich Rudel). During 1945, I Gruppe occupied various airfields in Hungary, Czechoslovakia and finally Austria, gradually falling back before the relentless advance of the 3rd Ukrainian Front. The surviving aircraft were flown to and abandoned at Neubiberg airfield at the end of the war.
crookedmouth Posted May 10, 2010 Author Posted May 10, 2010 (edited) WIP here. I'm afraid that my stamina lagged towards the end and there are a few aspects of the model that I could have done better. However, I'm broadly happy with it. As I mentioned in the WIP, this will probably be my last build of the season and I expect to return in the autumn with the Airfix Sea Vixen - I'm all Wurgered out! Thanks to all who offered their advice and support on this and other builds, especially H, Shark64 and Dave G. Edited May 10, 2010 by crookedmouth
CPNGROATS Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 Hans, look behind you, dog schizer>>>>>>>>>>> Cheers, Uncle Otto
crookedmouth Posted May 11, 2010 Author Posted May 11, 2010 ...and has anyone noticed that the exhaust staining is notably absent behind the gun bay doors? Lesson 3b. Always do your weathering with the aircraft in it's "in-flight" configuration.

Dave Gibson Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 As I mentioned in the WIP, this will probably be my last build of the season and I expect to return in the autumn with the Airfix Sea Vixen - I'm all Wurgered out! Ayup, That F-8 looks well and it seems to me that you've done a bit of figure painting before. I suppose you'll be getting an airbrush over the summer vacation period? If you do, remember these builds as I think you enjoyed building them as much as we enjoyed watching the progress. Things slow down with an airbrush! I've got the D-9 to a point where it was before the accident, so watch for that build being resurrected. Dave
