Hi all,

Can I enter the group build with one of WNW Alb.DVa?

I've got 4 months to bash the kit out, which for me, is nothing short of a miracle. Fingers crossed xx

See you in 4 months.

Bye for now.

Hello all,

This kit will be my focus for the coming months ahead. The Fok.DR.1 has gone on holiday for a while, but she will return with a nice streaky tan once the Alb DVa is complete Wink

This is not a WIP build. I won't be posting pictures as I go. I have decided to build this 'media free'. Only when the kit is complete will I show progress shots before and after. Why? Because, if I'm being honest I'm spending far too much time watching and not enough time building anything. I also find I'm getting bogged down with AMS and its killing my enjoyment. So, time to build and enjoy and not worry if this is right and that is wrong.

Here is the current state of play:

I start with the engine.

There are a couple of things I've added, more bits will follow.

38SWG wire run through candle flame then wrapped around the inlet manifold. This will represent Asbestos cord. This will receive a cote of Mr surfacer 1200 to tone things down a little.

Valve springs. I practiced this on the spare kit part. I will probably go with a finer wire. 40SWG will give me more turns. I'm looking for 8 turns per valve using the kit valve as the former.

Ignition harness tube will be made from 0.8 brass tube. This will be drill out to accept the six ignition leads.

I can see me really enjoying this kit. The details are crisp and parts go together Tamiya like... Beauty!

Well, my friends its time to go. You will see me around from time to time, but my activity will be minimal while this kit sits on my bench.

More time for the hobby less time for the lobby.

Laterz!

Looking good - one of the great things about 1/32nd is the amount of detailing you can get into - 'specially around the engine! The DV is a handsome aeroplane, looking forward to the finished item.

This update is to share info.

I got to thinking (it doesn't happen much so take notice :D ) about the material I was going to use as asbestos wrap for my manifold. For some reason a light bulb flashed in my pea sized brain and out popped cigarette papers - the fine type of cigarette paper for rolling your own.

Set your stencil cutter to 1mm and cut loads of ribbons. Make up a nice brew of elmers, PVA, Gator or anything gooey glue and add a wee drop of water to thin. Apply goo to where the ribbon wrap begins. Get wrapping! When you run out of ribbon apply goo... and so on.

The effect is subtlety personified.

Must dash! Light bulb is flashing!!!

Here is one I fiddled around with earlier :)

P.S Due to buckle sales going through the roof I will not be able finish my Alb DVa before the GB ends. Sorry all :fraidnot:
