AnonymousER99 Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 OK everyone I was finally able to start this last night. I did a base paint of the cockpit tub and sidewalls in Dark Gull Grey (Model Master Enamel) and also painted the seat frame in semi gloss black, also model master. Not much progress I know but I will get some of the details picked out and will shoot some pics tonight. I was notified that the instrument panel is from a Night Attack version and is wrong for the kit as is. As I am building this 100% OOTB, I won't tell if you don't! As I go, I will mention things that are wrong, and right with this kit. As I stated in my first post on it, the problems are well documented. Look for pics tonight. Regardless of the accuracy, the model seems to be fairly well detailed and looks like it will be a fun kit to assemble.
AnonymousER99 Posted March 17, 2010 Author Posted March 17, 2010 Here are a few pics of my very little progress so far. I had hoped to get some color in the pit and have a wash put on it last night but other things got in the way of having much quality bench time. The cockpit itself is base painted in Dark Gull Grey and the seat frame has been painted black. I will be painting the cushions and assembling the seat tonight, depending on how St Patricks Day goes! LOL Overall I am very impressed with the level of detail in the cockpit even though the kit suffers from the wrong instrument panel. The coaming also seems a bit high and it seems to push out too far into the nose of the jet giving the model a short and blunt snout. Sidewall detail is vey nice as is the cockpit floor and rear bulkhead. These will look very nice with a good wash, dry brushing and details picked out. I can't wait to get to it! Instrument panel is sweet even though it is for a Night Attack Harrier Does my nose look too short and blunt to you? Here is an overall taped up shot or two. The kit looks like it will go together very nicely. Dry fitting shows no real issues at all. One other issue with the kit is the lack of "kink" in the wing. It is something that is fixable but still annoying. Sorry for the bad pics of it. Hard to focus on it! Finally for those who can't wrap your head around the size of the Harrier here it is next to my old Tamiya 1/32 F-16. The Harrier isn't all that small! More to come tomorrow. Happy St Patricks Day everyone!!
Mike Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 Small update indeed, but progress none-the-less I'm surprised how large it is next to the 16, but that's not a giant of a plane either. I would imagine a 15 or a Flanker would dwarf it though
Talon Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 Hope you are going to get kinky with those wings... That nose REALLY needs to be introduced to Pinnochio...
AnonymousER99 Posted March 17, 2010 Author Posted March 17, 2010 Hope you are going to get kinky with those wings... That nose REALLY needs to be introduced to Pinnochio... Believe me it is hard to NOT fix this stuff but it it 100% OOTB so I am playing with the deck I was dealt
AnonymousER99 Posted March 22, 2010 Author Posted March 22, 2010 Did some cockpit work over the weekend so just a small update from me. The cockpit is fairly nice and having seperate side consoles makes painting much easier. I don't quite understand the need for the detail under the seat but I suppose if you want to pose your model in deep maintenance it is fine. The details were picked out with Gunze Light Grey and red. A Pro Modeler Dark was was added to the whole cockpit and wiped off where not needed. After the was dried, I picked out some of the bolt heads in aluminum and drybrushed the raised detail. I then added another wash from artists oils to enhance the detail. Lastly, I have assembled much of the seat other than the chute pack and head box. Those will be added once I get the rest of the seat painted and belts added. Hope you like it so far. Instrument panel gets tackled tonight. Cheers!! Mike
AnonymousER99 Posted March 22, 2010 Author Posted March 22, 2010 Question for builds like this....how would you like to seem them updated? Piece by piece or a big chunk at a time?? Cheers Mike
Mike Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 Cockpit looks good Mike. I'd rather you posted updates as they happen too
