Paul Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 I'll be building the Revell Mig-21 F-13 The kit looks great, lots of really fine surface detail (not sure about the silvery plastic though!). I'll be finnishing (Got to get the pun in early!) it in NMF in TiedLLV colours Looking forward to this one, a kit found by my father in law at a car boot sale and bought for £3!
AnonymousFO98 Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 A nice kit Paul don't remember any vices Canopy was a bit tricky but that was probably my fault- I just left it open slightly as saw a pic of one parked like that lots of nice detail just wish you good luck with the stencils not all of them corresond to the instructions and the instructions don't list them all - typical Revell But they are good - just lots of them and in the end some judicious guess work was required. sure you will enjoy the project I may be wrong about this, but I got the impression that due to negotiations with Nato, Finland were forbidden to use the Air Force offensively. The Migs were permitted defensively so I used the AIM's rather than the rockets. Someone may be able to confirm hth and good luck
Romeo Alpha Yankee Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 (edited) Got this kit as well Paul with the Finnish markings included (is is the same as yours?), though I might do mine with the recce pod. Since you have cracked yours open I think I will wait for another time to do mine. Will be watching to see how you go! Edited March 19, 2010 by TrojanThunder
Deacon Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 I built this kit in Russian markings last year. Was a joy to make. Looking forward watching this one. Deacon
Antoine Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 Nice choice, really, Paul. Those Finnish MiGs are lovely. Here's the book you need: As Walrus said, no vice in this kit. Maybe only the air intake to replace with a more thinner one, and there's really no obligation.
Paul Posted April 5, 2010 Author Posted April 5, 2010 Thanks for all the encouraging posts A little bit of progress, the cockpit tub (minus the seat) are in and the fuselage is joined together. It looks to me like the wing to fuselage joint is a bit tricky.
BlackLight Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 Good project Paul, this kit is one of the best, or the best, MiG-21 F-13 in 1/72 scale The cockpit looks ok. You used the instrument panels decals? Well I don't like too much Finnish markings, but that's my choice hehe...good luck with it and happy modelling BL.
Paul Posted April 6, 2010 Author Posted April 6, 2010 Not the best photo! The wings and some other fuselage bits are on, the wing root needed a little filler but other than that its going really well.
Paul Posted April 18, 2010 Author Posted April 18, 2010 (edited) A bit of a delay with this build because I fitted the horizontal tail surfaces and then promptly snapped off the thin pointy bit on the leading edge of the port side. (using a jumper) An afternoon spent sanding a new bit from an F-100 refuelling probe and I'm back in business. Nearly ready for a bit of mithral silver though, which is good. Paul Posted April 22, 2010 Author Posted April 22, 2010 The painting is mostly done, now for the fiddley bits. Thanks to everyone watching this build and those commenting
Paul Posted May 3, 2010 Author Posted May 3, 2010 There's been an absolute disaster! A few hours after this photo was taken I spilled liquid poly all over the left wing and tail I haven't posted about the accident until now as I was too miffed! The model is beyond saving and has been disposed of, I have also learned a valuable lesson about being more careful with fluids that can melt plastic! Thanks to all for the kind comments on this thread, I really enjoyed this kit and will definitely try to get another.
AnonymousFO98 Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 NOOOOOOOOO! man that sucks! was looking really nice as well hope you get another and do as good a job without melty liquid stuff applied too liberally!
Heraldcoupe Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 That's a real shame, first casualty of the GB. We've all been there at one time or another, Cheers, Bill.
Andrew Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 Very sorry to hear that Paul. Your MiG was progressing very well and I hope you can resume with another build soon. Cheers, Andrew.
Deacon Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 That sucks Paul I don't want to rub it in mate, but the build was looking great. Deacon
