Antoine Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 Started in 2009, first finished in 2010. First try at WW1 It was a very good experience for me, and full of challenge, too, as many new technique (For me) were involved. The step by step is here. EVERY COMMENT is more than welcome.
Mike Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 Good work Antoine... how did you get that texture on the wings? Looks material...
Antoine Posted January 17, 2010 Author Posted January 17, 2010 Well, Mike, I'm not sure to be completely responsible. It's maybe a little lack of light when I've taken the pic taht give that effect In fact, on the wings, if you check the step by step, you'll see that I've painted the base color, added a few drop of white straight in the AB, then after a quick masking session, airbrushed the lighter shade on the structure. Maybe its what you can see? But it was really too subtle, and I didn't have the courage to re-mask another time.
Buzby061 Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 Very nice Antoine, I like the laminate effect on the prop. Perhaps a monoplane is a good way to start on a First War subject, no struts & not too much rigging. Are those deflector plates on the back of the prop? Pete
Bobs_Buckles Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 Antoine, Nicely done. It's always good to see someone tackle a WW1 subject and tackle it well. What next? Zeppelin Staaken? lol Cheers, Bob

Pete Thanks Pete, In fact, after much reflexion (Yes, it happen sometimes), this is not the best kit to start a ww1 collection. Check the build thread, as I've already talk about it there. And yes, those are deflectors. Synchronisation came only in about 1916, with the fokker E. serie (IIRW). Antoine, Nicely done. It's always good to see someone tackle a WW1 subject and tackle it well. What next? Zeppelin Staaken? lol Cheers, Bob Many thanks, Bob. Still, I have planty of margin to improve, eh? Next, I think about a fokker E.V (To try losenge decaling), or a DR.I (To have a try at fabric painting, with oils)
Martian Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 Lovely effort! and rigging isn't so hard to do after all is it? Martin
Antoine Posted January 17, 2010 Author Posted January 17, 2010 No, really not so hard. You just have to think about it BEFORE starting the build, to plan the best possible solution. In my case, my half brain wasn't enough, as I completly forgot the tailplane rigging. And the tailplane is so fragile, that I think it's better to leave it like that.
