Rick_1138
Hi all, Been a long time since I haunted these boards, mainly bern taken up with becoming a dad 2.5 years, ago and running my own painting studio! Anyway, I am looking to make a model of my dad's currently not running 1985 911. Revell have a nice scale kit but like most versions of kits of this car it is always the non spoiler model. There are plenty of kits of the 930 turbo but not the non turbo version. I have seen transits to turn a G model into a duck tail car but none with the " whale tail" style. Can anyone recommend a resin set or if they know of a kit that has the right spoiler on a race car kit I can mate together etc. Any help would be appreciated. You could then hopefully fettle the spoilerless Revell engine lid onto the Turbo kit to make an 'outlaw' style wide arch, spoilerless 911. Fujimi also do a 74 RS with a whaletail (as opposed to the 73 RS with ducktail) The Tamiya & Revell 934 RSR race car kits will also have a whale tail, but if they've modelled it correctly I think it should actually be a different style to those on a road car, IIRC. That should also be the case with the new Nunu SCRS rally car kit. HTH & that I've understood your question correctly Keith
Rick_1138
Hi, thanks for those kit ideas. The problem looking into it a bit more is the grill that lays flat just before the rubber tail piece. On the standard 911 it's a large vent area and the flat rubber edge with the flip up at the end. The 930 turbo has the correct large grill area BUT the rubber edge has a, raised lip edge known as the 'tea tray' version. The fujimi and tamiya 930 have yet another version, which has the correct rubber edge type BUT the grill is very different, smaller, going into a deep recess before the wing edge comes up and has a smaller grille there too. It seems the standard flat tail is the unloved child of scale model 911's

And I'm out of ideas now sorry. Keith

That rally kit looks the right type, as I can paint the part to look like rubber edge which would work. Off to the Internet to source this kit

Dad's car is a 1985 impact bumper, carrera tail model. The SC RS model linked above is the right style and can paint it to have rubber look lip. Just shame it's a whole other kit. Ut can still make another car out of it
