srkirad
Good evening mates, I will join this GB with one of many UM kits of T-34. I chose model 1940 with F-34 gun. Here are the sprues with plastic parts + etched and rubber parts. Metal barrel is RB model made, and represents F-32 gun, but it looks the same as F-34 to me, so I will go with it. I'll start with assembly in following days... Cheers, S.
SleeperService
With things as they were in 1941 and early 1942 at least some would still be around into the summer so you get a good choice of schemes with this one. It looks buildable but I've heard that the rubber can react with the plastic so a strip of foil or similar around the wheel edge might be good. Best of luck with the build
srkirad
Yup, I know about possibility of problems with rubber tires and plastic - I had damaged sprues on UM T-26 kit due to rubber tracks At least parts in this kit are not damaged by rubber, and I hope that superglue will act as a isolating layer beetween the two. Didn't have much free time for modelling in recent weeks, so hopefully whis weekend will give me some rest so I can start with this one. That's a good sign, I've also seen the result when they do react. I hope the superglue does work as a barrier, it could save a lot of people a lot of trouble if it does. Whether you build or not I wish you a very good weekend.
Robert Stuart
A couple of years back, I built a UM kit that came with tyres. On advice I replaced the wheels with resin examples, but, as a test, I assembled the wheels & tyres and kept them (no paint, no glue, no varnish) ... ... the original wheels are still good. 1
srkirad
At the moment I'm sanding tires' footprints because they have mouldmarks. When I finish this phase I'll wash all tires with soapy water to remove moulding residue (if any), and then, I'm thinking of putting a layer of gloss varnish beetween tires and wheels - just to have some kind of isolation layer beetween the two. If the fit of tires and wheels is really tight, I'll add just a few spots of superglue on their join lines but from the inner side, so that won't be seen from outside.

We Thank You for this breakthrough in kit knowledge. I apologise if my remarks have caused distress to any kits or their owners Keep going srkirad a messy job but it has to be done.
Robert Stuart
One kit, years ago was OK. A different kit, made at a different time ... take caution
srkirad
It took a while.... After finishing few kits in progress, I gathered some courage to tackle these wheels and tracks... Well, it turned out better and easier than I thought. Plastic wheels' footprints were brushed with Tamiya X22 Gloss Clear as an isolation layer. Rubber tires were just tight-fitted to the wheels, and then I did add few drops of superglue from inner side of wheels, just to be sure tires won't fall off. Tracks assembled beautifully - I can't recall of easier work on tracks so far (although 1 link was needed to be added around rear wheek on both sides - UM fortunately gave few spare links). Next step is finally hull, and other details on it... Cheers, S.

srkirad
Decals gave me some worry in advance, having some bad experience with UM decals some 10+ years ago. Well, they didn't "disappoint" me Test decal just fell apart after being dipped in water. So, I proceeded with plan B - I've applied Microscale Decal Liquid Film on decals to be used and after some 30 minutes this is the outcome - not great, not terrible - decal film is a bit visible on edges but hopefully weathering and final coat of varnish will tone it down... A coat of gloss varnish was sprayed over decals to seal them in place... Cheers, S.
srkirad
I'll call it a day - final semigloss varnish was applied since last update, and wash & weathering were done with artistic oils and MIG pigments. I'm satisfied with painting and weathering effects, but I'm ashamed of decals on turret - I did my best to make them work, but UM decals are soooo bad that even decal solutions can't seal them for their film to invisible Anyway, thanks to all for support and viewing, it was a pretty enjoyable build - all recommendations for UM series of T-34... (except decals of course!) Cheers, S.
