28ZComeback
Can anyone tell me where this Japanese trainer is located and approximate year?? It looks like a postwar photo. The “J” on the tail appears to stand for “Japanese” —I saw a similar marking on a Ki-9 Spruce at Kimpo. It appears to be Korea, civil training. The “ADTC” on the fuselage stands for ? The biplane in the background with the Japanese markings may be a derelict. Thank you
RJP
What a nice shot. I think it's pre-war hence the J on the tail, much as UK-registered machines carried a G. It looks like the civilan registration J-ADTC, the fuselage J hidden by the struts. I'd love to know what colour that machine was painted.
JackG
RJP has it correct, the J along with the rest of the registration number indicate this is a civilian operated aircraft. Same photo appears in the Arawasi publication dealing with the K5Y1/K5Y2. It is associated with the Hanshin Flight School located in the current location of Yao airfield in Osaka. It lasted only a few years, June 10, 1938 and disbanded some time in 1940. Described as an Army school, it may have originally started out with naval trainers, hence the presence of the photographed Willow. regards, Jack Edited April 24, 2020 by JackG 2

Thank you I've found this thread by mistake, I post just to tell that the biplane in background is Aichi D1A "Susie", what rather confirms the late 1930s or very early 1940s time of making the photo
