  1. A recently finished build, this Tamiya P47D was built for a good friend. Finished in the colours of the Brazilian Air Force, it represents a machine flown by Ten. Cel. Nero Moura in 1944. Build was OOB and straightforward..well it IS a Tamiya kit The only aftermarket used was an Eduard instrument panel. Finished with Tamiya Laquers and lightly weathered, per my friends wishes. Decals are from the excellent FCM Decals and they went down without any problems. I must admit to having no knowledge of these machines being used by the BAF, but a bit of research brought up some interesting reading. Thanks for looking Gary
  2. Dear fellow Modellers, I offer this Ready For Inspection.. My second P47D this year.! This is the Hobbyboss kit which I added a few spare parts from the Tamiya kit I didn't use I the previous build. The retracted flap gear, the rocket pods and the decals. There are a couple of details I might add like the 'no step' red warning panels on the wings ( which i added this morning after i posted these pics). But basically its finished.
  3. I've got a long-term project gradually coming to some sort of completion here.... I'm talking about years here!.... And although most of the building is done and dusted, I think I ought to record the outcome for posterity πŸ€ͺ Republic produced an absolute CORKER of a fighting flying machine with the P47. I mean, I'm supposed to be heading for the civil aviation side of things but it's planes like this that keep longing for maybe one more.... 😍 Johnny the Spadgent has just been finishing off the P47N, and gathering loads of information on the way. Motivated to take another run at my 2nd airframe, I'm pressing on to the finish line with it. I should say right now that it's been made possible by the kind and generous donation of crucial parts by the inestimable @Zack, who chimed in on @The Spadgents WIP with assistance for my build. The plane in question is the old Monogram P47D, which I picked up at a show, in the "remainders" type of trader's box for next to nothing. Growing up on Airfix 1.72, the big Monogram kits always seemed like an exotic and expensive US import well beyond my means. So I'd been tinkering with it as a kind of R&R, got it so far, and then hadn't looked at it for a good while. That's where I was up to. So it didn't take much more to get the main components assembled. I'll leave that one there for the moment, and paste in a quick reference to the 1st Jug. Now we're going back maybe 4 years or more. It's the Hobbyboss Easy build kit in 1.48. I've done a couple of their products in this category, and I have to say they are brilliant for getting an airframe together if you want to concentrate on the painting and finishing. The kit decor supplied was for the Big bottom Bird, hence the 4P I'd, but I wanted to try my hand at the red and white tail stripes as carried by the 86th FG as they made their way from Sicily up through Italy. So there was a bit of compromising going on when the decor was done, and some revision may be tried at some point. So there we are.... I'll post up a bit more on the progress of the ole Monogram job, and bring things up to date with where I'm at. Which is.... nearly done πŸŽΆπŸŽ΅πŸ’ƒπŸ˜Ž
  4. Now, since I finished my Texan, its high time for another project. But sometimes it can be difficult to make up one's mind, when looking at the ever-growing pile of new kits. However...I really like the big bad radials....so I was definitely thinking about some American heavy metal stuff....and adding that my only one finished Thunderbolt (this one) was given as a gift to my best buddy...the choice was relatively easy this time. So I decided that my next project will be the famous Tamiya 1/48 P47 D Razorback kit. It is also the first time that I'm attempting to built one of these Tamiya wonder-kits...I heard some rumors that this kit it is almost building by itself, so I want to test this:) Besides the plastic in the box (which I have to say, it looks far better than any other plastic that I have built so far), I have also some add-ons...like the Eduard dedicated PE sets, the Master gun barrels, some Quickboost oil coolers, and so on. I only hope that I will make justice for this famous kit of this heavy fella':)
  5. Dear All, Having just bought this kit and read the glowing review from a while back can anyone confirm which version(s) it represents as the P47D had so many. I've just bought the Squadron Signal book on the subject plus perused the internet and now even more confused given that some of the changes between variants were either internal or quite subtle externally. I see that the kit offers a choice of propellers but again I think there were more than two types used at various stages, plus the excellent instructions don't actually say which variant they apply to only the A or B build options. Kind Regards Colin.
  6. Hello again. After a while I've managed to complete this magnificent aircraft. The kit itself is a charm. Easy to build, nice fit and no problems whatsoever. Painting it was a bit of fun but nothing hard. Unfortunately I can't make a build without some problems. This time problems with silvering of decals. Weird, because on glossy surface it was absolutely fine, but after putting matt coat half of the decals were silvering:( I've read some forums, tip and advices and followed the one with needle and pucturing the silvered decals and another coat of Sol and Set. Helped a lot, but still I'm not happy to be honest. Some decals basically unfixable.. Build is OOB + Eduard masks. Anyway, pictures: I hope you like it. Thanks and see you soon!
  7. Pretty much out of the box except BarracudaCals decals. Its missing a pitot tube on the wing. It kept snapping off. This is my second model after a 12 year layoff. Oh and scale is the only real scale 1/72 Next up a wwi green thing...
  8. Hi, Next from archive shelves of US machines - Republic P47 D15RE Thunderbolt (Razorback). Markings of Lt. B.Edens, 62 FS, 56 FG, 8 Army USAAF, Boxted, UK, August-September 1944. Hasegawa, OOB except decals - from my drawer (LTD?) In August 1944 invasion strips on upper surfaces were back overpainted with camo. Here I was trying to make this fresh paint on invasion strips a bit darker than rest of airplane. I hope it is visible... Comments welcome Regards Jerzy-Wojtek {EDIT : Sorry for mistake in topic name - I do not know how to correct it..}
