  1. yeah same here. It probably won't be the first kit on the bench after xmas ...
  2. Well, after the success of my 1st question about this boat, I have a follow up I intend to build the Italeri S38 as a unit operating in the Black Sea. Two reasons: a) I want to display crew members and I don't like the kits provided for North Sea/Atlantic use and I want to depict a harbor scene. So I will be using Tamiya and MiniArt DAK figures. I have pics of sailors in those uniforms in the Black Sea (maybe also the Med????) b) I like the color scheme, namely the air identification stripes in red and gray, as copied from the Italians. And again, I have pics that show Black Sea boats with those stripes... However, most sources proclaim the decks (other than the striped part on the focsle) to be in a green color. The best description I found stated that green to be close to a mix between RAL 6003 and 6025 resp. like FS 34258. Can anyone eleborate on the tone of that green? Does anyone know exactly which parts of the deck were painted in that green? Only the focsle or the rest too? And, last question (well, at least for now). Can anyone confirm that starting in 1943 the underwater hull was painted not in a grey black anymore but in a darker red (like RAL 3009)? Having said all that, I am also a bit tempted to build a "what if" version of the boat and give the boat a cammo scheme of my own making (as the original ones are not so attractive for display). But I would still like to find out what is correct, before sc*****g it up on purpose. Thanks for reading and hopefully for helping me out her! Cheers ... oh, and part of the crew is already anxiously awaiting the arrival of the boat
  3. uh, kind of forgot... For those who are interested, this is the 3d file used: https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/art/apollo-a7-l-spacesuit-study
  4. Hi folks, originally I had asked my son to print me an Apollo Astronaut as a size reference for my 1/48 Dragon Lunar Approach. The first try came out way to big, about 1/24 scale ... so I made a little vignette out of it, as the print was just to nice to throw away (anyhow, no modeller throws anything away!!). The second try was perfect for the Dragon kit .... Then I got cocky and wanted ANOTHER print, this time 1/72 for my Dragon LM and CM (they were "leftovers" from the Saturn rocket, as I build that in one piece without the interior showing - yes! I chickened out looking at all the modification the insides would have required). However, in several tries the figure never came out correctly out of the print. For one, the posture is different. As it is the exact same 3d file, I have no clue why that happens. Though it does look a bit more dynamic. But it was always missing the top half of the helmet???? I finally took one of those "headless" tries and molded the rest of the helmet on there with putty. It came out alright, I think. Thanks for looking, as always. Cheers
  5. aaahh, I love the idea for the diorama ... however, I am just wondering what the bombs would actually hit, if they get released directly (even at mast hight) above the target? Or are you planning on a really big diorama with the a/c at a distance from the target ship? Of course, it could be pilot error to release so late If the diorama just shows a small portion, e.g. the cargo hold or the focsl, it would be hard to identify the ship based on that, especially if you would choose to build a smaller vessel (which also of course makes the diorama less giant), which all looked pretty much the same all over the world ... Just my 2 cents, I definetly don't want to diss your idea, I can imagining it to look just great! Cheers
  6. I agree, normaly all doors are closed whilst at sea. The only exceptions are doors from the bridge to the wings, on ships that have the comfort of a closed brifge. Some might temporarely be kept open, e.g. doors to storage areas during a RAS etc. or for shelter in rough weather just before an evaluation beginns and the crew is already on station. All this being said, doesn't mean you couldn't display a door open when you feel like it or to display some interior - someone might just begoing through. It shouldn't me more than one though... Cheers
  7. Great looking little gem. I especially like the looks of the calm sea, that is rendered pewrfectly Cheers
  8. Thanks, well the background is actually my 1/48 airfield. I just used it for convenience Cheers
  9. A little project to extend my pretty meager "rockets in 1/72" collection. The Revell Germany A4 plus a scratchbuild WAC As always: thanks for looking Cheers
  10. I cannot speak for the UK planes, and it makes a difference that all are in brand new, fresh from factory, ,pre-war standards delivered state... but at least for German a/c I came, after extensive research (meaning hundreds of books and the internet) to a happy modelling conclusion: there was practically nothing that didn't exist, so I can get away with most things Cheers
  11. check out the German Navy Museum, they have the Mölders: https://www.marinemuseum.de/
  12. No, never done one. I bought the Fletcher class in the hope to convince Revell that there is a market for FGN ships, I wanted an F122 in 1/144. That's the class I spent most time on late 80's to early 90's, later a couple of turns on F123 class ships. The Revell F122 kit from the 90's was just too bad, when you know the real thing. I wondered when it got reissued a few years ago, but in the end decided not to punish myself. I had a few seadays on our Z103B class, but as a supernumary, not an actual crew member. Cheers
  13. Thanks Jeff. Yep good looking ships. I never sailed on one , so I cannot speak to their sea worthiness. The German Navy later got the Charles F. Adams class ships, lovingly (more or less) called "Fletcher mod" Those where really impressive looking ships. Although, considering that the ranks were housed in an 80 man deck aft, creature comforts were obviously not the foremost design aspect. Cheers
  14. Alan, if you give me an email address, I can try to transfer my photos. I am uploading them to TransferNow and they would send you a link to your addres .... I think (never done that before) Cheers Actually, this link should work: https://www.transfernow.net/dl/20231206raYZF8Qm I would be happy for a feedback, as I never tried this before. Cheers
  15. thanks, speedmaster is printed photo plus clear plastic as face an plastic bits as buttons
  16. Hi Alan, yeah, I thought it to be quite a well done kit. For the FGN version a bit to close to the original FLETCHER, e.g. the boat. I used the PE detail set by Revell which was quite an improvement, the rest of the stuff is scratch build. The Platinum should be another step up for improvement. Original pictures are not so numerous and often in bad quality, resp. not showing what I wanted to see. I even wrote to Revell, if they had more detaied info on the rigging (the fine lines practically are invisible in any picture), but no joy there. So quite a bit of assumption and approximation based on more modern ships (Bathy, Nixie, torpedoes etc.) or just pure fantasy (RAS equipment, view thru the open bulkhead door) went into the build. Good luck with yours Cheers
  17. Another older work of mine, but I think FGN (Federal German Navy) ships are a bit underrepresented. Hence ... As always: thanks for looking Cheers
  18. nice build. I haven't dared to venture into resin for my rockets, I have a tendency to screw up with that material. ... and greetings to DC, I lived there for 6 1/2 years (well, worked, living in McLean) Cheers
  19. Another kit that I finished last year... I tried to change the shape of the cover over the helmet, but not really too succesful. Some little details added. I think the impression/atmosphere of the kit is quite good, accuracy is another issue As always, thanks for looking. Cheers P.S., yes I know Neil would have a hard time reading the checklist on his left arm. The watch is way too low - maybe I will change it - one day ....
  20. Mike, thanks for the info. There are some posts of mine from when I originally joined that still have the pictures visible. Some others don't. I have no clue what the difference is ... I switched to a free flickr account. So far it seems to work, fingers crossed, as the Apollo picture prooves Cheers
  21. https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/art/apollo-astronaut-the-original this is a pretty good free 3d print file I used in in 1/48 and a bigger scale (actually a misprint - my son prints for me). Only 1/72 didn't really work: he was missing the top of the helmet in each try Cheers
  22. not today, but I scored myself the Bandai Millenium Falcon perfect grade kit for a very reasonable price - have to wait until Xmas to get my hands on it Cheers
  23. Hi guys the model is not brand new, actually about a year old. But I want to use it to try figuring out pics from flickr Thanks for looking Cheers all my space related works: https://photos.app.goo.gl/DLrnifbiBdBnwxfF7
