  1. Thank-you Thanks for that and yes i need to order some more too. Cheers, Alistair
  2. Hi There, Whilst working at my usual glacial pace on another build I decided on Monday to see how quickly I could complete a kit using enamels. This is the result. I have just spent the last two hours trying for the life of me to get the aerial wires on but they refused to stick and if I kept going I would completely ruin the kit. Short story..... No wiring. Built oob Painted with Colourcoats Dark Earth, Middle Stone and Azure Blue. Incidentally the first use of the Azure Blue and Middle Stone exactly a year after purchase in Perth. Finished with W&N Galeria Matt Varnish. A fun experiment but not one I plan to repeat. There a couple of blemishes that were caused by my haste and i wouldn't want to do that again. As always Thanks for looking. Cheers, Alistair
  3. Hi There, Thanks very much. I loved the film when I was younger and still watch it at times with my nephew. Cheers, Alistair
  4. Hi There, Thank-you for your kind comments. The chaps in the rear are a couple of my son's custom wrestling figures. It's him doing these that got me back into modelling. Cheers, Alistair
  5. Hi There, This was being built in parallel to the Firefox but this one is for the wee man's roof, so wheels up. When I started I thought that the dihedral fix wouldn't make that much of a difference so decided not to bother.....Wrong! Primed with UMP Grey Painted with the magnificent Colourcoats Dark Earth, Dark Green and Night Bomber Black. These are fantastic paints, utterly bombproof and so easy to spray on........ Thanks Jamie. Finished with W&N Galeria Matt varnish Aerials with Uschi Fine Rigging line. Had a bit of a slip with the canopy which decided to move slightly but eagle-eyes here didn't notice until the paint was done as and as it's going on the roof left it rather than ruin the finish. When I was unmasking the various bits of glasswork I managed to knock three of the large Tail-fin Balances off and could only find two. Stretched sprue and a dollop of PVA to the rescue. It's approximate but looks OK from three feet. It'll be heading for Innis' roof on my way to work today. Thanks for looking and did I mention how good Colourcoats are. Cheers, Alistair
  6. Hi There, I read the book at work and looked forward to the film which apart from the plane was a bit of a disappointment, loved the plane though. Many thanks for you kind comments. Cheers, Alistair
  7. Hi There, I believe that Humbrol Enamels are not the best for airbrushing. I've never been able to get on with them too well. I would suggest that if you want to use enamels then Sovereign Hobbies Colourcoats Range are just the best paints I have ever used and when paired with their thinners are almost bulletproof and flash off really quickly. Cheers, Alistair
  8. This was my surprise present form my son last Christmas. Never having made a resin kit before the very thought of it terrified me because it was a present and if I made a mess of it I wasn't just disappointing myself. So, after doing some interneting to get hints, tips and help I stuck my courage to the sticking place two weeks ago and decided to get on with it. No real problems with the build, a fair bit of filler and sanding especially on the bits that had shrunk. The only real problem was that the canopy didn't fit at all. Some hot water later a reasonable fit was managed. (More of this later). Painted with Vallejo Model Air AMT-12 Tamiya Nato Black Acrylic Humbrol Arrow Red Enamel Finished with W&N Satin Varnish. The decals, all six of them, went down with no problems then but when I unmasked the canopy it had gone completely cloudy. Must have reacted with the CA I suppose. I tried to tint it by hand but the damage was still visible, so Nato Black coating with a glossy coat to try and give it the impression of a canopy. Anyway enough waffle and on with the pictures. All in all I'm quite pleased and it looks very sinister in the cabinet. Thanks for looking, Cheers, Alistair
  9. Hi There, Beautiful and instructive work form you yet again, Sir. If I may digress a tad. Those pictures of Hall Russel and Fitty Dee took me back and awakened some really old memories for me. My Mum and Dad were both from Torry, we only moved to Dingwall when I was 2 and a 1/2, and so I knew the area quite well as holidays tended to be centred around Aberdeen staying either in Scatterburn or with relatives in Strathdon. My main memory of the harbour area was when my dad took me down there as there was a Submarine in paying a visit and The Skipper had known my Dad during the war. He managed to blag a visit inside for me. Many Thanks for bringing that memory flooding back. Cheers, Alistair
  10. Hi there, Yet another masterclass from you. I think this calls for wine. Cheers, Alistair
  11. Thanks for your very kind words. Thoroughly undeserved I might add. Thanks very much. Your comment made me very jealous. I had tickets for Knebworth in '79 but the person I was going with had to pull out and my parents wouldn't let me go. In fairness the right decision I was just 16, but we are all aware of what happened next. It still hurts that I missed the last British performances of the greatest Rock and Roll band ever. I saw Page & Plant at the SECC in Glasgow in 1995 from the front row centre. Jimmy Page's Les Paul was inches from my face......Almost made up for it. Many thanks to all of you who liked this as well. Cheers, Alistair
  12. Thank you Many Thanks Thanks but a much more professional finish there I feel. Thanks but really there's No Jacket required...... oops wrong artist maybe I should get my coat. Cheers, Alistair
  13. Hi There, A really nice job that almost got me all homesick. Nice memory-jogger. Cheers, Alistair
  14. Thanks for that. It doesn't stand up to close scrutiny but I'm pleased that I persevered. Nice Twin Otter by the way. That made me think of home. Cheers, Alistair
  15. Hi There, This just finished. Well, I'm calling it. Many, many years ago...1979 I was a young naive Highlander at College in the big city of Edinburgh and on my first weekend there The Playhouse had a late night Friday showing of:- Pink Floyd Live at Pompeii The Song Remains the Same and Woodstock. I had to borrow a driving licence from a friend as I was only 17 and Woodstock was an X. That's an 18 certificate for those young ones amongst you. Of course this plane was in right at the start of the Zeppelin film. I spotted the Roden Kit and thought that would look good in the cabinet if I can do it justice and would be a lovely reminder of my younger less cynical days. The kit was fairly straight forward, some sanding, some filling but nothing too taxing. I did one or two things that I would change. I left the intakes and exhausts off the engines thinking that I could fit them after all the painting easily. That didn't work very well as the was filler and sanding involved in the aftermath along with more paint and masking. But the transfers...............Oh Dear Bod......They just disintegrated as soon as you tried to position them let alone manoeuvre them into position. Out came the Microscale Decal Film...Nope didn't help. This was the point that I was about a picosecond away from launching it into the bin but decided to soldier on. So, they were positioned as well as possible and when dry paint was mixed to fill in the gaps. I managed to get an almost exact match with my paint mix but when it dried it darkened considerably. Next tried a lighter shade but this was also dark and then thought that rather than ruin it all I would give it a clear coat in the hope that it would sort of blend in. That didn't quite work but it looks pretty good from two feet out so it's done. Lots learned, not to sure if it was fun but I'm glad it's done. On with some pictures. Anyway, Many Thanks for looking. Cheers, Alistair
  16. Yes, I seem to remember that I got it as a present on my 6th birthday along with a Dinky MSV and a Captain Scarlet Playsuit. It's all a bit foggy now of course...... Cheers, Alistair
  17. Hi There, I seem to remember doing the same thing except it was probably 50 years ago. Cheers, Alistair
  18. Hi There, Just a couple of quick pics of The Angel Interceptor. There is a little remedial work to be done as The Halfords Appliance White has set like concrete and I will have to sand some lumps down where some of the masking was. It's gone with my nephew to his display cabinet as he fell in love with it. I'll work on the stuff I need to do later. Many thanks to @PhoenixII who kindly supplied the decals from the newer issue as the ones in my kit were completely shot. Cheers, Alistair
  19. Hi there, I have used the same Vallejo set on my Hurricane except for the underside and think that what you are seeing is a colour cast unless it's a funny batch. Vallejo have the reputation of being a bit iffy regarding colour matching but the Set here seems pretty close to me. Cheers, Alistair
