  1. Finally have my 1970 Kenworth K100 restoration done. Here's a link to the WIP. https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235047370-1970-kenworth-k100-restoration/& Have the sun out today and it's cold, so I didn't spend much time taking pictures. I parked the rig on my 1/72 tarmac. The snow is 1/1, a bit overscale for 1/25 but show be convincing. Yes I will straighten out the driver's antenna.
  2. Some details just bug you. The cab hinges are attached to the grill which I figuresd out is good for the '67 and I think '68 KW. After that the hinges were moved outboard a little and the fenders have small cutouts. I wasn't going to rebuild the truck again, was thinking of leaving it, but no. The left hydraulic cabjack broke off and was hitting the floor for some reason anyway. So I took it off and used it to make dummy hinges. The truck is now done, here's the link to the finished model. https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235050907-1970-kenworth-k100-restoration/
  3. I think my set is a different one, the engine inlets are a bit different, has the little fins. I can't find right now, buried away. I didn't know the new Airfix had a different sized nacelle.
  4. I built the glow in the dark version of this, very simple not great kit, but this one looks well done. Only thing missing are the cameras hanging off it.
  5. Where did you find the mesh? I need some. Could a regular rolling pin work?
  6. Thanks, I don't post my builds to often, just lazy, although I'm on here a lot. It is easy to miss.
  7. There's that, but Mickey's is more fun, no hype. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCvFNTUDikuXwaoFE45bq4Xg
  8. Have you seen Mikey's youtube channel Plane Savers, very cool, they're saving C-FDTD.

  10. I'm curious to see how this goes, I have the same parts. Where did you get the decals you're using? In the instructions it says there isn't many pictures of this plane if I remember right. I just don't have the time to put the Dart DC-3 in my shop right now. I have about seven I want to build.
  11. Thanks, they're thicker than I'm used to, they are screen printed. They react very fast in the water, but worth it. A lot easier than trying to paint it.
  12. Have the cab's decals on and most of the trim work done. These decals are very durable which was good because I had to mask the door trim. The right side wasn't very cooperative. the roof part curled instantly, had to piddle around fixing it and played for an hour on it with decal set and sol. A couple of cracks and cuts on the light blue which I was able to touch up by mixing paint. The scroll decal was light blue, but for some reason the blue dissolved in the water and it just white now. Have to figure that out. I used the original door glass. I painted the edges of the vent glass with chrome and flat black to resemble the frame and the rubber. The backside of the vertical frame on the glass side was masked and painted chrome. The grab handles below the windshield are from the Revell Kenworth, no comparison and are correctly shaped. Here she is almost done. I left the fenders off so I'd have access to the underside of the cab, the wheels were also left off for the same reason, definitely a must. The wipers I made from small strips and a "T" strip for the blades that were trimmed down. These were pinned into the front of the cab. They do actually move but don't always touch the windshield, just need to bend them more. I had to redo the intake pipe going to the turbo. It was to high and the cab didn't sit straight. It was hitting the cab tunnel. I carefully cut it off and shortened it in a couple of spots. I didn't want to repaint it so I had to be careful. The cab jack was another fun thing. It was had to line up both jacks and glue the cab to the grill, so the left fell out. I cut a little off the insert part to get it back in, now it's a bit short and pops out. I added a small length of tubing to the tip of the jack(see the white part on the tip) and notched the framing on the floor to clear it. The stack guards are new to. I made a set from a tube to fit over the ones I made earlier, now they look better. The guard's holes are simply a large decal of 1 mm dots I drew up. The tube has a slit cut out along the length so I could snap them over the first parts. If you saw the earlier post, I had to repaint the left fuel tank. A drop of thinner found it's way on it right in the most visible spot. The repair and repaint worked.
  13. Got some paint on, finally. This is a base colour of gloss acrylic light gull grey over Humbrol 147 grey. I chose this colour because it should work good with the decals later if I print them on white decal paper. I also didn't want to mask off the interior to paint the outside white. I widened the grip tape on the roof by adding two strips of sandpaper and carefully gluing the seams and brush painting it with the green I made up. I have to redo the intake grill fins to the corrograted mesh type. The model is just loosely assembled for the picture. Had a hard time getting the masking tape off the floor, it was on a very long time. If this was sitting by itself, I would recommend a bit of nose weight. It's borderline about to fall on it's tail and the tail rotor is not put on yet. The rebuilt rear fuselage and lengthened tailboom added a lot of weight. I still need good photos of the sides and roof before I can finish the decals, most photos online are bad resolution or a bad angle. I plan on making the same thing in 1/72 but won't be as picky.
  14. This is about the Hasegawa kit, how does the Monogram EF-111 compare besides the flaps option? I got one for very little and want to make sure it's decent. I want to make the Navy bird with the flaps down. Reading here, there's a bit of work needed to do.
  15. Just thought, what about Sculpey clay, have some but ever used it yet.
  16. The 1/144 kit (minicraft) one, has horrible wheels, that's the biggest problem with it, The Roden one looks good from pictures I've seen of it. Haven't seen the Welsh one yet. With a bit of work they can be nice. I bought the 1/100 ones because I want to make dios for them and the 1/72 ones would be to big for the dios I want.
  17. This is a good question, such a needed part in helo models. I think Tim's idea with the aluminum duct tape might work.
  18. I have two of these not built, like this kit better than the 1/144. Much nicer kit.
  19. Makes the most sense. Good to know on the props, know what to plan for if I do motorize one, if I do, might not.
  20. i'm sure whatever the cost, these will be great, I'm going to need a bigger house, want at least one of each. It'll sure beat researching and scratchbuilding the parts. EPA in the Maritimes had a couple of Cavairs. Will the props be metal or resin? I just ask because I may want to put electric motors behind them. Will the prop shafts be on the engine or prop side?
  21. Here's my finished decals for the Freightliner. The bottom row are stack guard holes for my KW. The top two are sleeper, below that is the cab and hood, mudflaps and air conditioner. I'll paint the feather black edge on the sleeper after they are put on and hope it works. These were printed on my laser printer. I used a thick card setting and discovered another slot for the thick paper. I changed the stars to proper ones, the real artwork was a white marker with stars kind of scribbled one. Looked kinda tacky to me. The bits of white are 5% black which is a very light shade of black. It took quite awhile to draw them. I used CorelDraw12 and have a Xerox 6280 printer if you want to know. This truck was just sold. The Huey needs a permanent home. They're still having problems with the artist guy.
