  1. Btw all colour images I've seen show blue rudder stripe leading.
  2. @Malc2 photos show that the rudder markings were there before it even left the factory. I'll report on the kit when I get it, but that will be after I get back from three weeks away. All the best, Tim
  3. Ordered. Looks promising. Details on Hannants show no sign of rudder markings.
  4. Cockpit of Alcock and Brown's Vimy scanned from an old Science Museum booklet. Tim
  5. Looks great @Patrik. All that effort rewarded. Tim
  6. Interesting choice @Billos. I would trust Granger unless you can find hard evidence otherwise. His research and accuracy are outstanding. When Jet Age Museum embarked on its full-size Gamecock replica project the design team began with known dimensions taken from Granger's Gamecock drawing, adding more and more detail from the Air Publication and the (undimensioned) spares manual.
  7. Original fabric from Gladiator prototype K5200. Jet Age Museum Collection. External finish is completely smooth.
  8. Thanks Patrik. Looking forward to hearing from you whenever it suits you. Tim
  9. Yes, floats were duralumin, unpainted on top apart from a white edging, and all white undersides.
  10. More searching turned up these quotes: Harald Penrose: British Aviation - The Adventuring Years - 1920-29 (Putnam 1973): Page 378: “Certainly the S.4 seemed faster than the pale blue Gloster…” Thomas G Foxworth: The Speed Seekers (Macdonald and Jane’s 1975) 0n p340 Col 2: At Felixstowe “the first Gloster III-A was already dismantled for packing, but on the seaward side there stood the second racer on its dolly, glistening blue and white in the sun…” but on p341 Col 1 (this must be the first machine, now with the extended fin): “Broad’s white Gloster with its rakish fin and large blue 5…” Patrik: can I direct message you with a pdf of pages from Foxworth's book?
  11. Hi Patrik, Suggested colours are based on this painting from the time, not a modern one. Shows later version with wing surface radiators and the 5 not black, but it seems to be a Gloster company scheme like the one used for the Gloucestershire (Gloster) Gannet of 1923. The orthochromatic film of the time lightened blues in b&w photos. Tim
  12. You're right about the rudder cut-out. Slightly better copy of yours here, and a great rear view on land. All flying surfaces, wing struts and float struts white. Dark band on floats red. Only the fuselage pale blue. Not sure about colour of central pylon. Like you, I bought the Karaya kits. I'm still hesitating, so I look forward to see how you tackle it. Good luck.
  13. Hi Patrik, These might help. Number 5 without white outline, also under both wings. Floats seem to have white undersides, white also rimming the float topsides. I enjoy all your projects, the period, the nationality, the scale, the handpainting and the lack of rigging. Perfect. All the best, Tim
