richellis Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 Hi, What paints should I use for the pinks? Im doing BAAB for now, the 1-11 will be done at a later date! ta
Kev1n Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 the lower part of the fuse is orange... then a darker pink and the brightest shade for the upper fuse - when I did mine I simply mixed the paint until it looked right to me
stringbag Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 Try this Rich. http://www.flickr.com/photos/peamasher/244...in/photostream/ Pink on G-BAAB Not orange. Chris.
Kev1n Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 very faded colours in that image - the lower fuselage was orange; trust me it was. then you had the lower silver cheat then a darker shade of pink and the upper cheat; then the upper fuse, which was a bright pink
richellis Posted July 30, 2011 Author Posted July 30, 2011 thanks Chris, I went to my LMS and got a can of pink for the upper colour, Tamiya Spray for £1! was selling old stock! Got a Humbrol Red in the rail match that will go nicely with some white added. Now to crack out the airfix tristar and some time!

I have some colour transparancies that I took at Gatwick many moons ago so I'll have to scan them before I can post. In the meantime perhaps this picture will help. http://www.abpic.co.uk/popup.php?q=1143176 G-BAAA was orange and two shades of yellow. Chris. Edited July 30, 2011 by stringbag

Kiwidave4 Posted July 31, 2011 Posted July 31, 2011 As an ex-Courtline/Autair engineer I can say with authority that the bottom of the pink aircraft was pink, never orange. The yellow scheme had an orange belly, but the pink scheme was three tones of pink;- and a bit much under bright hangar lights in the middle of a night shift! I always felt the green was the most pleasent, but possibly not good for those prone to airsickness! The Courtline logos were self adhesive material with a high gloss chrome finish when new. They were actually perforated to aid application but this was only obvious up close. They were a magnet for lightning strikes. The paints were polyurethanes and did not weather or fade very quickly, in fact during my time, (I left at the end of 1973), the finishes remained remarkably fade free compared to the pre-polyurethane finishes I had been used to. Regards Dave
richellis Posted August 1, 2011 Author Posted August 1, 2011 Thanks, I will crack on with the Tristar soon ish!
Kev1n Posted August 1, 2011 Posted August 1, 2011 I'll stand by what I said. and Cambrian Airways official colour designation - Salmon Pink
