T-Tango Posted January 30, 2010 Author Posted January 30, 2010 (edited) I don't think so Bobsie, I'll probably go for the good ol' Olive Drab. but there again I might change my mind. Maj. Pete A.B.C. Bloodnock V.C. D.S.O. D.F.C. and Baa. 1st. Bombay Irish Edited January 30, 2010 by T-Tango
T-Tango Posted January 30, 2010 Author Posted January 30, 2010 Bobsie me ol' fruit, just checked the history of 56 Sqn. and it seems as though the red 'Sweinhund' was flown by the Sqn. C.O. Cpt. Duncan Grinnell-Milne but he didn't take over until December 1918 so it might be a bit iffy to include it as part of the GB. Cheers Maj. Pete A.B.C. Bloodnock V.C. D.S.O. D.F.C. and Baa. 1st. Iain Ogilvie Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 Nice project - will be following closely! Tempted to have a go myself - perhaps when tank thing is finished. Iain
crookedmouth Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 Great subject, but entirely the wrong scale sir! I prefer 'em small and delicate - like my women.
T-Tango Posted February 2, 2010 Author Posted February 2, 2010 Yeehaaaa!!! The kit has arrived, the first impression on opening the box, is that it looks pretty good, very little flash and quite good detail, we will wait and see as regards fit etc. as the build progresses. T-Tango Posted February 3, 2010 Author Posted February 3, 2010 (edited) First update, engine assembly under way, fuselage sides and top cleaned up ready to start painting, I did a quick dry fit of the fuselage sides and there don't appear to be any problems, I must admit this is a very good kit, no flash and so far the minimum amount of clean up. T-Tango Posted February 3, 2010 Author Posted February 3, 2010 Had a little mishap with a scalpel blade, have we? Yes, as it happens dear boy, stabbed ones self in the bally old finger last night, what, nearly passed out but managed to land near the lines, bought the ol' girl down in one piece, treated by a jolly nice nurse, but hey ho, back to the front. Cheers for now chaps. Maj. Pete Chumley Salterton Smithe V.C. D.S.O. D.F.C. and Scar
T-Tango Posted February 7, 2010 Author Posted February 7, 2010 Ok guys, some help required, I've been using Bobsie von Buckles' very useful SE5A ref pics for engine details, now I know the picture is of an Hispano engine in pristine condition, but I would assume the 'Viper' engine, when new, would have been much the same when it was installed in the A/C, assuming this, would I be correct in using these colours but suitably dirtied up? Cheers Maj. Pete Chumley Salterton Smithe V.C. D.S.O. D.F.C. and Scar
T-Tango Posted February 7, 2010 Author Posted February 7, 2010 Cheers Bobsie me ol' darlin', I thought that might be the case
T-Tango Posted February 7, 2010 Author Posted February 7, 2010 Where has your post got to Bobsie? it's disappeared.
Bobs_Buckles Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 Pete, Here are a couple of detailed scans of the viper. Go with the same colours as the photo and just dirty up with one or two oil washes. Enjoy BVB
T-Tango Posted February 7, 2010 Author Posted February 7, 2010 Thanks Bob, I knew we would get there in the end, but they give you the complete engine in the kit, but only the rocker covers and a bit of the cylinders can be seen when you get the panels on.
T-Tango Posted February 22, 2010 Author Posted February 22, 2010 (edited) Thought it was about time for an update, I've been working on the wood effects, I'm quite pleased with the results, i don't know what you guys think, all comments gratefully received. T-Tango Posted February 22, 2010 Author Posted February 22, 2010 Really realistic wooden look, will watch with intrest, and for handy tips! The wood effect was nothing fantastic, I just used Vallejo Model Colour beige as the base colour then when that was dry I went over it with Winsor & Newton Artisan water based Raw Sienna oil paint with a flat brush to get the desired wood grain effect, left it for about 4 days, the oil paints take a long time to dry, then when it was well dry copious coats of Klear to get the gloss. T-Tango Posted February 26, 2010 Author Posted February 26, 2010 Instrument panel finished, now working on the fusalage. All comments welcome Pete
T-Tango Posted March 3, 2010 Author Posted March 3, 2010 Another update, it's starting to look a bit like a plane now, the prop and cockpit cowling are only placed on for effect, not permanently fixed as yet, any comments as always gratefully received. Cheers Pete.
