The 1/48th Classic Airframes DH Sea Venon FAW.21. A long waited injected model isn't it?

Mr Bringuier (owner of Classic Airframes) don't forget your long promised Fairey Gannet AEW...

I pre-ordered my DH Sea Venom kit from Sprue Brothers ( http://www.spruebrothers.com/ ) about a month ago. This mean that I received it as early as December 15th. Do I have to say that I was not disappointed.

And despite some other projects "in progress" - I suppose I'm not alone in this case - I do not resist starting work on it almost as soon as it landed home.

First step of importance I spend some time studying the notice, preparing the plastic (ejector pins) and resin parts (casting blocks) prior to construction and then started to assemble the cockpit and test fit the fuselage parts. Quite surprisingly for a Classic Airframes kit things went smooth. I sprayed a flat black base coat over the cockpit components and dry-brushed them to highlight the subtle cockpit details. Then I added some touches of white, yellow, red, and grey where required. The next job was to get some weight into the front of the fuselage to ensure that the finished model wouldn't be a tail sitter. But no stress there is ample space inside the nose.

I glued the fuselage halves without problem and assembled the wings.

Then I glued the resin air intakes (take care they are very fragile when removed from their casting blocks) onto the fuselage followed by the wings.

I added reinforcements carved from thick styrene strip between the booms and the wings, and brass pins (in fact paper clip cut parts) to strengthen the joins at the tail surfaces.

I cautiously opened the various fuselage air intakes, the gun ports as well as the shell ejector chutes. Some brass pins were also prepared for the wingtip tanks. I also removed the solid plastic tip tank navigation lights ("nipples") and will replace them later by clear red and green sprue parts.

Mine arrived today, bought on ebay from the States and posted across to the UK, still cheaper than buying in the UK!

Have to say, what's in the box looks impressive, and your build makes it look easy!

May have to start mine soon, after my Vixen that is....

At my opinion a EDSG solid gloss colour is maybe accurate but doesn't look enough attractive or representative of the real thing.

To fool the eye and give a 3D aspect I post-shaded the panel lines with the help of Tamiya large masking tape. Here's the result:

Is it just me, or do you have rudder pedals but no control column? I ask because both were missing from mine and they come together on a casting block.

That's awesome! I really like yer work on this kit. Y'know there's this bloke to whom I bashed rather hardly for putting down Classic Airframes' kits... when some of the kits this manufacturer has released don't even exist in 1/48th scale or have been out of production since long. I got their Meteor F.4 kit and I completely fell in love with it. This one I've got to get as well.

Say, how do ya compare this kit to the old Revell one? Classic Airframes' kit looks a huge lot better to me.
