LDSModeller Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 (edited) Wonder what brought on this sudden burst of enthusiasm?Build thread here if interested http://www.swannysmodels.com/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1267392799/0 Chris. The Swanymodels build is nice but not wholly accurate by any means. Mike, if you want to build yours with detachable wings then I would suggest, two good solid metal lengths through the Engineers compartment (just like on the real aircraft) should give you the strength you need, and allow the wings to attach/detach easily You can see the main spar at the front of the enginers compartment Rear Spar runs under "oven door" With regards to the beaching, to my knowledge the aircraft always came out the water stern first, First off the bow turret was moved back and the mooring bollard used as a tensioner from the buoy in front running past the aircraft to the beaching crew on land. Secondly, because if you brought it up bow first, your beaching crew would have to wear scuba gear to attach the stern cradle while under water and stay with the cradle guiding it up the ramp until the stern rose out of the water, and they had to wear some rather crappy outfits to get in the water in the first place Beaching clothing Sunderland beaching Note the rope from bow to buoy and same rope running up portside to crew (Photo used for illustration only) If you wanted to do some thing different, how about mooring your model in a braby? Like so (Photo used for illustration only) Now armed with this knowledge, you should be able to run faster than a locomotive and leap tall buildings ina single bound and I expect the model to be on show tomorrow Regards Alan Edited July 31, 2010 by LDSModeller
