old stratfordian
Hi all, first post time, I have been building the Revell 1/72 Red Arrows BAE Hawk, as suggested by the good members of this site, would have posted earlier but life got in the way! All was going well, in my eyes anyway, and got to the cockpit canopy and disaster! idiot here used poly cement and fogged the bejesus out of the glass. I will attempt to put up some photos shortly. I had dipped the canopy in Pledge beforehand. Question: Can I get a replacement cockpit or considering the cost of aftermarket parts would it be cheaper just to get a replacement kit? Second thing, got given the Academy 1/48 F15e Strike Eagle Kit No 1687 from a friend but it is missing the canopy sprue, I have scoured the inter web to no avail. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can get a replacement. I have tried all the usuals, Hannants, Pocketbond etc. Any help much appreciated. Apologies if I have posted in the wrong forum, mods please move if needed. Many thanks
James G
Hi, You could firstly try dipping the canopy in Klear (Pledge) again to see if that helps the fogging. I would contact both Revell and Academy to see if you can get replacements. There is also a 'wanted' section on the Britmodeller forums - no guarantees of course but you would be surprised what spares people have floating around. Cheers James
Graham Boak
From what people post here, I believe that Airfix will provide you with a replacement canopy at less than the replacement kit cost. I haven't needed to try it myself.

MarkdipXV711
Go to airfix website. There is a contact form you fill in and they send you the part at a small cost plus postage. I've used it for replacement canopy and they sent me entire clear spru. Good service
old stratfordian
Thanks for the info, just to let you know the progress so far, Revell came back and as the kit is discontinued they no longer have any parts, I have filled in the Airfix form and emailed over, Academy emailed me back with a link to Pocketbond, so no joy there. Old canopy about to be re-dipped in Klear.
old stratfordian
Hi, cant post on the wanted section, need a minimum of 100 posts, never mind, in Klear will wait and see once dried. Cheers all
Telboy1999
Go to airfix website. There is a contact form you fill in and they send you the part at a small cost plus postage. I've used it for replacement canopy and they sent me entire clear spru. Good service I did the same with my 1/72 Lanc. Broke the main cockpit canopy (my own dumb fault). I emailed Airfix and they sent me out the entire clear sprue. It cost of course (think about £6 or thereabouts including P&P) but good quick service. Black Knight
Airfix supply parts for Airfix kits. Neither of the kits mentioned by the O/P are Airfix. The Airfix Hawk canopy may fit the Revell kit, but there is no guarantee [the canopy on my Airfix kit was slightly different from my Revell one]
old stratfordian
Thanks for the info, just an update, I contacted Falcon in NZ who only supply a vacform canopy for the single seat eagle and not the twin seat, so no luck there either. Any more suggestions welcome
Romeo Alpha Yankee
If redipping does not work you may have to strip the canopy and rub it back with fine grades of sandpaper (2000 grit plus). Then you can polish it up and redip. I have done this a couple of times. Takes a bit of effort but has saved me trashing a build because of the canopy. AngstROM
There is a slender chance that if the canopy was dipped in Pledge the plastic will be protected -maybe only the Pledge will have got smoked. Try stripping the polish with ammonia cleaner and see what's underneath.
