  1. M3/M4 Medium Tank STGB Chat

I had a herniated disc that was impinging the nerve and causing incredible sciatic pain all down my left leg. It was a mixture of intense burning, aching, and pins and needles. I couldn’t stand for more than about 20 seconds before it started up. I tried physio, osteo, pills, steroid epidurals, nothing worked. After 6 months, and with a second baby on the way, I underwent a surgery called a microdiscectomy where they chisel off part of your disc in order to relieve the pressure on the nerve. Amazingly it worked, and after five weeks I was slowly recovering from the surgery, but the pain in my left leg was all gone. It was great, baby was born and things were looking lovely. When she was ten days old the same pain started up in my right leg this time. Three months later and nothing has worked once again. I’m now seriously considering having the same surgery for the right side as I’ve now spent almost a year living with utter crippling pain, and it’s doing my head in. BUT, I’d did finish my Sherman in the first ever Brit Modeller armour Group Build, so it’s not all bad!
  2. Thanks Ozzy, Badder. Lots of lessons learned on this one, so it’s all good. And we’re supposed to be having fun, right, no point getting all worked up about some pigment. Accidents happen (like I tell my toilet-training toddler), we just have to roll with it. Hopefully I can find some time to do the diorama soon, the kids are taking up so much time these days! I had so much fun doing this group build, thanks everyone! Tom
  3. I saw this and thought “He’s posted the wrong pic, the Bandai one isn’t there.” Then I saw it. Amazing! Jaw-droppingly good, well done!

Hey guys, Didn’t get to do the diorama I’d hoped to do, and didn’t even get a chance to take pictures away from the bench, but here’s my effort, a Tamiya Easy Eight. Cheers, Tom
  5. Thanks guys! So in case you were wondering what ‘The ambush’ was all about, here’s a little mock-up of what I had in mind, but doubt I’ll have time to get around to. The figures of course aren’t done, and the scenery would need a lot of work, but this was what I had in mind. Maybe I’ll add it as a WIP in the diorama section. Cheers, Tom
  6. Amazing, as usual! Great weathering after the fantastic construction. Looking forward to the diorama! edit: I just love those orangey bits!
  7. Thanks so much guys! Glad I could get it done before the end of the GB. Might try to put the little diorama together if I get the time before Easter, fingers crossed.
  8. Thank you, guys. Decanting seems pretty scary, Andy. I might look into a Vallejo or Ammo varnish to see if I can just skip the decanting process! So here’s how she is so far. Very close to completion, mainly because I’m so tired of working on this particular kit! Please let let me know what you think, what I’ve done incorrectly etc. this is only my second ever tank after all! I know there are some mud spatters and other bits that aren’t quite right as a result of the pigment disaster, but I don’t she ended up looking that bad after all. Cheers, Tom
  9. Hey Robert, Tamiya TS-80 is a flat clear lacquer used for sealing before enamel washes are applied. I’d actually like to start using some that can be applied by airbrush, as the spray can method with the TS-80 is obviously not very precise. I need to do some research on that though. Nearly finished the Sherman now, attached the tracks last night, they just need a little work, plus some final touch ups here and there. I’ll try to get some pics up this evening!
  10. Amazing!! This is how she looks after a good coat of TS80! Obviously she needs a little work, but she’s back, baby!
  11. Looking good, as usual! Can’t wait to see the finished product!
  12. I wouldn’t blame the pigments, it was user error all the way. I used both Vallejo and Ammo. My application was obviously all wrong, I’ve never used them before and so clearly messed it up. I’ve tried to replicate and it looks horrible. Not too keen to try adding more paint to it. I was wondering if hitting it with a blast of TS80 would tone it done and maybe darken it up. At this point it’s such a mess I don’t care if it makes it look bad. It’s looking more and more like it’ll have to get a soaking in isopropyl to strip it completely.
  13. Thanks so much for the advice and encouragement guys. I’ll admit that half of it looks kind of cool, and I tried my best for a few days to try to love it. I tried replicating the effect on other parts of the tank, and it just looks amateurish and sloppy. It’s a shame, I’d really wanted to do quite a clean vehicle this time after my dirty, duffed up Power Loader, so to have this happen through my own inexperience with pigments is really disheartening. I’m thinking the best thing for this may be an isopropyl alcohol bath. At least that way I can try to start again, rather than just consigning her to the unfinished shelf, which is where I’m leaning at the moment. Plus I don’t want to let the Group Build down! I’m really unsure what to do with this one.
  14. Ok, so here’s the damage. She could maybe be cleaned up with a load of thinners and some scrubbing. But she looks like she’s been in a junkyard for 20 years! Here she is with her untouched turret on to show the contrast. Looks like I’ve got some work to do! I did finish off my commander though, he’s not looking too bad. I’ll get some wine in me and have a crack at it tonight, that’ll do the trick! Cheers, Tom
  15. Well it doesn’t look pretty back in the cold light of morning. It could maybe be salvaged with a whole heap of thinners. Didn’t have time to grab any pics this morning before heading to work, but will try this evening. Cheers, Tom
