Chaotic Mike Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 ...And they're off. eBay delivery at 11:10, small boy 2 hacking away at 11:23. Photos to follow... Mike
Chaotic Mike Posted April 9, 2010 Author Posted April 9, 2010 11:26, and the first index finger has been stabbed...
Mike Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 You watch that index finger, Mike! Why didn't I think of armour for the GB? You can get away with a lot more scabby paintwork just by splashing brown paint over it & calling it "mud"
Milo Black Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 11:26, and the first index finger has been stabbed... You should have built a Gant.... the blood wouldn't show against the red paint
Chaotic Mike Posted April 9, 2010 Author Posted April 9, 2010 Some pictures... A particularly arty arrangement of the boxes... lovely reflections... The gang of three... Progress. As many have noted, there is nothing remotely red tinged in the supplied paints, so my Whirlwind is being piloted by a Martian. I was going for a yellow/black mix to make a sort of brown, thus allowing a pilot from the colonies his crack at the Hun, but it didn't work out that way... I suppose I could have used the blood from Ian's index finger! More on the boys' work as they continue.
Milo Black Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 my Whirlwind is being piloted by a Martian. I was really tempted to go the whole hog on this, paint him in the pale green (90) and add some big eyes.... but I wound up with a yellow/black mix too in the end.
Chaotic Mike Posted April 13, 2010 Author Posted April 13, 2010 Some painting WIP. 1st coat... Spillage courtesy of over-friendly but *very* stupid cat... (Still, this time it missed my trousers! I thought I'd place the photo in an artistic, dogfighting, sort of configuration for extra thrill-power!) Many coats later... Meanwhile, small boy 2 is hard at work... And small boy 1 is temporarily disheartened by horrible flash and fit issues with the Harrier. So no pix, yet. I'll just have to continue flogging him until morale improves. Decals on tonight, finished shots tomorrow, Insha'Allah Mike
Chaotic Mike Posted April 14, 2010 Author Posted April 14, 2010 A couple of pictures before I weathered it...
Chaotic Mike Posted April 14, 2010 Author Posted April 14, 2010 Whirlwind finished... here! Small boy 2 keeps on going... Mike
Milo Black Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 Whirlwind finished... here! Fine job, Mike - I wasn't brave enough to do the wires in stretched sprue with poly cement melting the ends off for me - so props to you for doing so!
Chaotic Mike Posted April 14, 2010 Author Posted April 14, 2010 Fine job, Mike - I wasn't brave enough to do the wires in stretched sprue with poly cement melting the ends off for me - so props to you for doing so! Ta. I was surprised how well the stretched sprue coped with liquid cement. You should give it a go - the amount of repairs you would need to do if it goes wrong are minimal, anyway!
glen davis Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 Very very nice whirlwind mike and looks like SB 2 is doing a good with his. Its good see that the youngsters can get involved with this GB
