robvulcan
Hi everyone, Very minor update: Did say it was minor First attempt at gloss work. It's Tamiya's X-2 thinned with Mr Color 400 self levelling thinner. She just needs one more coat, really thin, just to hopefully gloss her up. I might polish her with some compounds if I think it needs it, but I'm quite happy so far. More to follow! Val Val looking good though a suggestion for you you might want to go back to the Blue steel and make some new front fins up from plasticard to correct the rounded ends, they should be sharp. they corrected this on the later issue kit but these early release had this style. All the best Rob

All the best Rob Hi Rob, hope you're well mate? Yes, you are quite right, the Blue Steel is incorrect at the front. I'd not noticed until you said so, but now it's obvious I'm not going to try and correct it though, simply because I think I'll make more of a mess with my skill set than the problem in is in its current state! Please keep pointing out errors though; I am interested and will take note for future builds even if I don't correct on this model Cheers, Val

If you don't glue it in at some point in the future I can rummage through my spares and send you one off one of the great many of these little critters I have made. Indeed I have just started another today and started modding it to a B1. This time more accurate than my first 2 as I now have access to some accurate drawings. With the wing being so much smaller there is not much left of it now. Come to thing of it this one Has an accurate Blue steel in the box you can have that if you PM me. might have to wait a few days I am nuts busy with stuff at the mo. Fine thanks just way busy with stuff not done much modelling at all except for making drawings for this one and cutting the wings up. You don't have to go through that trouble As and when I make another, I'll let you know though Cheers, Val
robvulcan
No worries mate. Yes its not much of an issue but the offer is there for the future,. I have now modded 2 more to B1 versions. I took some trouble with the maths. Cheers Rob.
Val
So, another minor update. The intake are was painted with RAF medium sea grey, masked up (very roughly) and painted with RAF dark green. As you can see, I've also dry brushed the cockpit with MSG. I know it's strong, but the windows are so small, it needs to be strong to stand any chance of being seen through the tiny things. That's why I'm not at all worried about the overspray as well And this is the result:The camo is going to be masked with thin strips of tape when required. I'm going for a hard edge. I realise that Vulcans aren't total hard edge, but I've decided they probably would be on 1/200 scale Hopefully she'll start taking shape now Val
Val
A minor update here as well... the idea of having more than one build on the go at once is that there's always something to do. If I'm waiting for glue to dry on one, I can be sanding the filler on another, or painting another, or decalling another. But I seem to have 4 kits on the go all at the same point... So that theory is out of the window, and this quick build is being massively held up! Anyway, I've stuck some lead weights in the nose. The instructions don't call for it, and I don't think it'll be a tail sitter, but decided better safe than sorry. I've also stuck the air intakes in along with the fan blades. The fit is near on perfect which will enable me to roughly mask up and paint on as suggest by Robvulcan. The canopy is masked up, so I need to glue that on. The underside isn't glued yet either. But, if I get a chance to do that tomorrow, I might just have her in primer by the weekend. You never know...!Cheers,Val
Val
So, she's glazed up, and coming together: Masking the windows was one of the most painful things I have done whilst making kits... The round windows were masked using a circle of tape cut from Tamiya tape using an etched circle template and a needle in a pin vice. The tape had to be pulled as tight as possible on to the cutting matt and gently scribed with the needle a few times to get a good circle.About a third of the underside has been glued together. I'm gluing it bit by bit to get as good a fit as possible, so more tomorrow!More soon!Val

Val
Wonderful work mate , and how in the hell did you mask those tiny windows ! That is mega and crazier than a crazy thing well, I use 40mm Tamiya tape, because it's most translucent of all of them, cut little strips and put them over the windows. Let the tape set in place and then used a sharp knife blade over the mobile phone light and cut around the edges. Time will tell to see if it's any good Thanks man, might get some paint on over the weekend... Might... Val

Val I had a go masking my first one with PVA as I normally do but as the detail is soft it was so tricky I gave up and just opted to paint all mine black. Be cool to see how it goes I have stalled on the modelling front as I have been working hard learning an album for an audition into a band. Hope I get the job. All the best and good luck rob

And regretting it!! What instrument do you play? I play guitar and bass in a few bands

Cheers Rob Sweet man, best of luck with the audition I play in a few bands, I've spent the weekend doing some guitar maintenance as I've got a few gigs coming up this month. I play in a few function bands doing Motown, R&B, rock, dance, you name it really. I do solo acoustic finger style stuff also. My main love is jazz, funk, blues and American folk. Love a bit of rock too. Here's some of my guitars: It's my number one love! Val
robvulcan
Wow nice collection I play all sorts but my main area is 80s Rock glam , sleaze , hard rock , metal , blues , ambient , vai Satch all that's sort of stuff. Love the Teles and strats, I hope to get a decent tele one day 72 custom always appealed. Cheers Rob

Love the Teles and strats, I hope to get a decent tele one day 72 custom always appealed. Cheers Rob Thanks man. Sounds great, I used to be big into metal. Not so much these days, not that I like metal less but I think my interest in other genres has increased, if that makes sense. I'd love to see Metallica again though, legends! Love Rage Against the Machine as well. Just such a huge world of music out there Yes, love the Teles and starts. I used to be a Les Paul man, but I had a studio and didn't really get on with it. I just found it a bit heavy to be honest... So I use the PRS for the heavy rock stuff... Although I've got a Seymor Duncan humbucker in the neck pickup for the maple tele custom, which gives it a bit of kick! I got my guitars before I moved out from mum and dad's as I knew I wouldn't be able to afford them after I'd got a house, a wise decision! Val Cool Yeah I never really got into Metallica I like there stuff but not that much. I prefer the sleazy fun side like Van Halen, Motley Crue, Whitesnake, and well like you say I love all music not just Rock and Metal there is a lot out there. I also love the Pet Shop Boys, Frank Zappa, and many others too many to list. I mostly use Ibanez Guitars mostly RG/JEM/UNIVERSE types but I also use a Burns Brian May, Strat and Jackson Dinky. I love LP but at the same time find it a very awkward desin and not very well thought out layout wise. but I love them. Hows the Vulcan doing

Do you listen much to Eric Johnson? I've never really got into him but feel I should give him a good listen. Any recommendations? Cool set of guitars Yes, I feel exactly the same over Les Paul's. Shame, they are sooo beautiful! Well, steady progress. Pics to follow... I can't help but think I'm making this build toughwe than it has to be She's all glued together now. I've filled a couple of the joints around the tail and the underside which I couldn't quite get together without a bit of a step or gap. Like I say, looking around at other builds, I think the problem with this kit is the blob of carbon and water trying to put it together, rather than the kit itself. Just got some (very) minor rescribing to do and then primer. I hope to get a chance tonight to rescribe, and get some pics up. I've said that before though.... Cheers, Val

Also I recently got into 3 amazing bands, Reckless love , Crash Diet and Santa Cruz they all kick butt majorly. Thats just rock stuff but great none the less. A coat of Tamiya paint was given to the underside to see how the seems looked. I didn't make as good a job with the build as hoped, so a bit of filling followed: Good ol' Mr Liquid Dissolved Putty to the rescue here!! So, there we are! I'm not too worried if the filling is perfect or not as these are panel lines as well. Touch of rescribing next and then we are onto primer... Exciting Cheers, Val
Val
Hi everyone,Very quick update, she's been attacked with Vallejo primer (love that stuff!), and sanded out in a few places that needed rescribing:No major dramas, just a few panel lines that needed dealing with, and smoothed out the primer where it was a bit bumpy. The bald patch on the wing is due to a blob of something. No idea what it was, and it's gone now, but didn't notice it until post-priming!I've reprimed the bald patches after dealing with some errors. I've lost a couple of panel lines on the nose, but I'll put them in before painiting. A bit of preshading and the white going down soon!Val
Val
Hey all, Underside is painted! Pre-shaded lightly with black and then over coated with tamiya xf-2, followed by a hint of post-shading. Tried to keep the effect as subtle as possible as it's a tiny scale!! More soon... Cheers, Val
