  1. Cheers Paul. I guess it's trial and error. I'll give that a go. I'm wondering if the couple of needles with longer bevels are finer? Hmmmn.
  2. Not too bad from a short distance though.
  3. Over Alclad 2 Over Tamiya XF. Photographed this in harsh light for you to show what happens when the pressure is too high 20psi+, a texured effect, similar to Tamiya X22.
  4. I've had a cheap Iwata clone for years, 0.3 needle, it sprays Klear very nicely at 15-18 psi.
  5. Morning all, I've been sorting through a box of spares and I found a tube of airbrush needles and nozzles. It's a bit of a daft question, but, how do I determine their sizes?
  6. Indeed, the Decals included for this particular P51D include options for `Rose Marie` and `The Kelly Kid 2` but no `Lollipoop` as per box art! So, what is going on Airfix? Looks like another email joust is in order. I built `Rose Marie` last year, so another blue-nose is not really appealing (Stencils or no stencils).
  7. Indeed, the kit No on the decal sheet is 'A01071A' Spitfire Mk1, they seem in good register too. I just checked the P51D starter kit (A68208) I got at Aldi too. Decals marked as A01004A with full stencils with a stencil data sheet!
  8. Thankyou for the link. Correct. It is indeed a starter set, an Aldi Special no less. It does though, have a full set of decals including stencils. I was surprised too.
  9. Afternoon. There does not seem to be any stencil data with the kit noted above, Box No A68206. I emailed Airfix, who told me stencil data was on the back of the box (the first place I looked....it wasnt). Does anyone here have an electronic copy they could DM, or a link to a high res online copy? (I found one but it was virtually unreadable when enlarged). Thanks in advance.
  10. I've just built one of these, now I feel inadequate 😁
  11. A very nice build indeed. Well done. I must get one. Is this the E4? Does anyone know the box number this new kit?
  12. The natural light picks out every detail Jim, I for one, am glad you decided to forego extensive weathering. I looks great mate. A lovely finish.
  13. That is special. Beautifully finished.
  14. I read about the Gunze with Tamiya Clear, apparently the levelling thinners solves the orange peel effect you get with Clear and Tamiya's own thinners. I will have to try this too.
  15. I've some UMP clay based washes in the post. I'm hoping these will go smoothly on to cellulose mixes. I'm also considering AK metals for aluminium finishes. Like you say, there is a glut of products at the moment, complete with their own mixing voodoo, it's hard for an occasional modeller like myself to keep track. Extra thin on decals? What madness is this? 😁
  16. Yes, I used Levelling thinners. Right. Oil and water....got it. Ok.So a schoolboy error on my part? Sounds about right. Its the first time using GX100 and levelling thinner. I usually seal with Klear, Tamiya X20 clear and recently Vallejo acryl gloss varnish. Thanks for the heads up replies.
  17. Apologies for resurrecting a 2 year old topic, it seemed pointless to start a new thread. The process: micromesh on bare Airfix P51 plastic, cleaned with isopropyl, Alclad black base, Alclad 2 sprayed on, MC GX100 super clear 2 to finish. So far so good. However; The problem: Wiping off MIG panel line wash has taken all layers down to the plastic. (Fortunately only on a test area under the starboard wing). I think I left adequate drying time, but only about 4 hours on the GX100 super clear 2. I misted on several coats. Is that enough? Would a fatter wet coat solve the problem or is it a `curing` issue?
  18. Good afternoon friends. An incompetent and often bamboozled sticker and painter of plastic here. Via the West Midlands and South Yorkshire (I've appropriated an atrocious mixture of accents). After lurking for many a year, I thought I'd better do the polite thing and introduce myself. I attempt to model 1.72 aircraft and occasionally 1.35 armour. I may stretch to 1.48 aircraft when I learn to stop putting fingerprints in Alclad. I've a Airfix NA P51D Mustang and a Revell P47m on the 'bench' at the moment. I had high hopes......😁
