  1. Thanks Loren, Next step is to apply Future/Pledge coat and panel line wash to have effect what the real machine had:
  2. Thanks lot Graeme. In fact I did afterburner detailing after Robert's highly motivating reply 😁
  3. Thanks for hints Ramon. I haven't started to use Tamiya colors yet and I will finish both Blackbirds with MM and Alclad paints. I have used in both models Alclad gray primer but the Alclad metallic paint was lifted off when I removed vinly masking tape. Next time I will make first the vinyl film less tacky and then mask the panels. I need to make more experiments to learn how to work with Alclad metals before going back to pending Flanker projects because the engine and exhaust areas require several shades of metal finishes... Serkan
  4. Great level of detailing Brian. I have just seen your WIP. Did you have time to finish this beauty? Serkan
  5. Thanks Bill. I am afraid that I have applied too many mist coats which makes pre shading almost invisible. I think we will see the result after clear coat.
  6. Until last year I have only used MM enamel paints including metallic colors. But I was not very happy with metalizers when I had to mask them. Even using metalizer sealer did not give any successful results. Then I have decided to give try Alclad II and bought complete set of bottles... The primer works well but the metallic colors are very sensitive to surface smoothness and has to be free of finger fett... Recently I have bought the complete set of Tamiya X and XF colors because my wife was complaining about the nitro smell in basement... Now it will smell IPA as I will use it to thin paints and clean airbrush 😁
  7. All panel lines were shaded with light ghost gray... 90% thinned black mist coats were sprayed: After several mists here is the result: Also the canopy and windshield were positioned: There are some areas to be retouched but these are minor problems. Next will be the wheel bays and fins. After then the aircraft will be coated with Future/Pledge and the panel wash will be done. Serkan
  8. Thanks Nikolay, I have made some attempts to apply alclad metallic paints but experienced that at some areas the paint was lifted off with masking film when I was applying different shades of metallic colours. It was most probably due to finger oil which I forgot to clean with IPA. I will apply the alclad primer and metallic colors again... Serkan
  9. Sorry to hear this Dennis. I can understand how you feel. It was hard time when I lost my dear Puki (American Cocker) long time ago. Serkan
  10. The airframe black areas were painted: Both M-21 and A-12 are now waiting for next step 🙂 Next step will be detailing wheel bays... Serkan
  11. The elevons were glued in deflected position and entire aircraft was painted in black: And the sisters together: Next is to apply panel lines shading and wheel bays detailing... Serkan
  12. The different shades of black even dark blue is all black. The environmental and operational conditions caused black paint weathered. Serkan
  13. I have noticed that inboard elevons are also missing 😁 They will be of course added before painting.
  14. The engine parts were painted and assembled together: And here is the fit test of both engine assemblies: Next step will be placing windshield & canopy and painting whole aircraft in black. Serkan
  15. All nozzle parts were painted: and assembled together: The fit test shows that adding afterburner can and rings improved the engine assembly significantly. Serkan
  16. Thanks Neffan, I am trying to finish Blackbird builds to be able to go back suspended Flanker projects 😁
  17. Clear parts were casted, dipped into Future/Pledge and masked for painting: Next is to place them and start painting the airframe. Serkan
  18. The afterburner rings were completed. The M-21 afterburner ring design was slightly modified to make it more realistic: In above photos the right one is the improved afterburner ring model and left one is what was used in M-21 project. It was not an easy task cutting four ultra thin rings (less than 1mm width) and place them over tiny brackets... 😅 Serkan
  19. The clear parts were casted and masked. They are ready for painting: The front and rear canopies are not crystal clear as I have forgotten to polish the master pieces (gray primed) before preparing silicone molds: I applied a coat of Future/Pledge to make the canopies clearer. I will use these parts at least place holders for painting. I will cast new set of canopy and polish them to make new molds for crystal clear part casting. Later I can replace new canopies with these ones. Serkan
  20. I am trying to catch up mates threads when I find a bit time from my ongoing builds... 😁 Serkan
  21. Now both sides completed: Next step is to paint all nozzle parts and assemble them together, Serkan
