  1. I prime outside (depending on conditions and if the washings on the line) . If you do decant and airbrush it I still wouldn't do it indoors as you will still get the fumes from primer. I need to prime some 1/35 figures tomorrow so will try decanting and ab them.
  2. So ab cleaner straight ,in a tub and tub in the water is that right ?
  3. As the header says what do you add to a ultrasonic bath to aid cleaning airbrush components. I have been suffering from airbrush blockages my normal strip down and cleaning seems to be insufficient. So after a quick shop on eBay I have a small ultrasonic bath my question is apart from water what else should I add? Airbrush has only been used to spray acrylic paints,Klear and clear I don't want to damage any seals etc.
  4. I normally use a Halfords plastic acrylic rattle primer (around £4-6) with no problem . I have today though got a can of cellulose grey primer from Poundland. So far it has covered well (on a yogurt pot) nice thin and smooth ,it has withstood the fingernail scratch test and the tape pull off test ( with Tamiya tape, generic masking tape , clinipore medical tape and sellotape) with no problems at all. I will be testing colour coverage tomorrow (and more tape tests with tape being on for 24hrs) as I would normally allow a day for primer to cure. So far for a nugget it's brilliant.
  5. Going just by the colour scheme Typoon would have been my guess I not long finished one so it's fresh in my mind (but then what do I know lol)
  6. Thanks for the advice. It is the Revell Air Berlin set I have . I am going to try and make the Windows first (utilising the copious packaging it came in) if that doesn't look right then it's out with the filler. Will have to wait a few days before I can begin dreaded mot...
  7. As my first civilian build I have pulled my 737 out of my stash . This might just be a newbie question but here goes. On the airframe the windows are open I.e.holes. With the decals there are rows of windows. My question is do the decals go on the outside over the holes or do I block the holes is first . Sorry if this is a complete newbie question but I'm sat here scratching my bonce and the splinters are starting to mount up.
  8. Thank you I have a long way to but at least there's only the upwards option open.
  9. I have a 1/72 Smer ME 262 A-1a/Avia S 92 in my stash was thinking of doing it next but by 2018 my modelling skills should be up to around the "just poor" stage to join in with this GB. If there's space count me in plz.
  10. I have both future and humbrol clear I will definitely try that out on my next one . Going to put the Arado to sleep until New canopy arrives (if indeed airfix have one can't check until tomorrow) . Only problem now is which to start next thinking of going onto a vehicle prob my halftrack.
  11. Thank you for finding that out for me it is much appreciated. I will have to order a replacement canopy as while trying to remove masking my big finger (and unusual strength for this time of day ) I have managed to snap it in two across the top ,at least it saves me from restripping the paint .
  12. I've gone for the "no frame" option the one I am doing is off the Bismarck so with no pics available (at least to me) I have gone with the bottom pic. Also at 1/72 the amount of free glass you would be able to see is negligible(and over my masking abilities) so have had to put the frame at the edge. Waiting for paint to cure before stripping off masking hopefully this time I will be happy if not its paint stripping time. I have found a few more pics and nearly all of them have slightly different rear cockpit designs one even has a completely enclosed one some have the "free "glass edge some with framed edges.
  13. Found a video from WWII showing the Arado 196 and Junkers 88 attacking I took this screenshot. Apart from that The best I've found so far is this. From the top pic it looks like there is framework going across albeit thinner but the bottom pic suggests there isn't.
  14. I have spent quite a lot of time searching for pictures with no joy. I have found a few pics but none showing (in any clarity) the area concerned,I have noticed the instructions are wrong as the trailing edge of the cockpit glass is unframed with the supporting framwork starting around 5 inches back from the gunners position so I will have to work that into the masking even if it's only a token amount showing. I will carry on looking.
  15. I am trying to mask the cockpit on my 1/72 Arado Ar 196 float plane an have come across a problm. Any help would be appreciated.
  16. I will be watching this one with interest. I have the airfix version in my stash.
  17. I am still here but am likely to disappear for a few days at a time due to my disabilities so sorry if I seem inactive or unresponsive. I have most parts together after looking at reviews for "artist " paints online I have gotten a set of 14 different colors for £3 at the works reviews say for the price the pigments are very fine and work well with airbrushing (admittedly not saying on plastic) I have also been to my local vap shop and got some empty vap fluid bottles for mixed paint just looking at how I want to build my next model its a Hurricane from my memorial set looking at building extras as in brake pipes cockpit interior improvement etc . When I get to painting I will of course post back my findings.
  18. Sorry for delay in getting back it's amazing what chores can be found when you want to do something for yourself lol. I have found my old humbrol airbrush if all goes well I can get to testing this evening. Again thanks for your views and responded .
  19. I'm going to experiment with what I can find I mainly like aircraft with the odd vehicle (military). I have lurking somewhere a humbrol starter airbrush I never throw anything away my kids have had all my old toys apart from some die cast which I sold. I have fallen foul of the nodding head answer to my better half apparently I agreed to take her into town but will keep you up to date with how my experiments go. Thank you all again for you very helpful answer's and views.
  20. I will have a try tomorrow and see how they behave they will either cover or not its worth trying them out , I'm just eager to do a good job.
  21. I'm good on that point he has about 8 bottles I did ask ask him first I'm not. that bad (yet). I will have to wait until tomorrow the light bulb went in our bedroom and the only spare one until tomorrow is in the dining(my modeling space) room :-(
  22. Manor houses used to have the floors of their great halls etc made of oak so in times of war ships could be repaired quickly without having to hunt around for wood the correct length's etc... You know what that statement means ! I must have actually listened at some point in school...
  23. I have just raided my youngest bedroom and have a bottle of bubbles to hand now I just need to get my kids to bed and I can start experimenting. Thanks again for your help.
  24. thanks for the heads up I was just amazed it worked the only paints I have been using so far are the ones from starter sets and it hasn't effected them so far but I will keep a eye on it. Excuse the painting and the quality of the photo but you can see the decal has settled in even picking up all my horrible brush strokes, I have noticed a bit of " silvering" if that's the correct term but only when the light catches it. I knew the painting was rough but close up boy its bad still its only my test piece.
  25. Thank you all for your replies. I mentioned artist acrylics as my daughter has a mostly untouched set I will play around and see how they spread/fill/cover etc.
