  1. Hello, I've just made the step to buy an airbrush, after a long search to find the more suitable one. Now I am in the need of finding suitable protection for when I start to use it. However, while searching on the net for advice, there is hundreds of opinions, from you just have to open the window, to two-filter mask and eye protection. I would like to to know what is your opinion. I will be airbrushing outdoors on my terrace, I plan to make a sort of cardboard box so dust doesn't fall on my model, and I will only use acrylic paints, thinned down with water (vallejo, game color, citadel and humbrol acrylics). I am inclined to buy a good one which also serves me for other nasty stuff I might be using in the future, but I don't know if a mask with some filters can be very good for some thigns and not enough for others, so I have thought better to ask specifically. Thanks for reading.
  2. Simply amazing, looks completely like the real thing. I wouldn't have guessed ever the scale and the "manufacturer"! this reminds me I have to get one in 1/72 scale.
  3. Very nice kit, this camo really looks different. It is good to see some more obscure versions of aircraft & helicopters.
  4. After a long time without posting, here I come back with a rather unusual "kit". This is a scratch building project I started 17 years ago and just finished some months ago. It's never late when it comes! It is not a superbly accurate model, but it looks nice and I am satisfied with the result, and the fact of having finished it after having lying around for so many years. In the end it looks like one of those models pilots made in the 30s to identify aircraft. You can read more about the process in my blog; http://toysoldierchest.blogspot.com.mt/2016/06/tutorial-scratch-building-172-aircraft.html
  5. Many thanks to all. I saw this kit made by another modeller with chromed engine, and I saved the pic saying "someday I'll have that kit and I will chrome it too", at first I tried with tinfoil, but it was going to take forever if done that way, so I went for the chrome powder. Meatbox, maybe with another cowling with some sculpting you can get a decent result, maybe even one closer to the real thing. Usually, I always lose canopies on models, never any other part . Although I have even lost the wings of a Fw190 in the past....
  6. Here I comeback to the forum after a long time with this kit. Although not a wartime aircraft, it is one of the closest things you can find that actually didn't fought but looks like if it would have had. The main thing that separes these kit from the usual is; modified pilot to resemble the actual pilot who achieved the records, with a white suit, resembling a pulp fiction astronaut, and I sculped with putty the wheel protections on the wheels, which I think gives a great style, besides the chroming of the nacelle. This has been a family build - built by my father, wheel protections and pilot made by my brother, and painted, chromed and decalled by myself. I have made also a full review; http://toysoldierchest.blogspot.com/2015/01/frog-novo-bristol-138-research-plane.html
  7. Beautiful! the figure adds that special touch to the scene that makes it great!
  8. Here is a kit with a long story . Given as a present back in 1998, when I was only interested and exclusively in WW2 models. I built it, but left unpainted and without the doors and glass parts for umpteen years until now (I intended at least 5 times to paint it, but the maximum I achieved was to paint the interior). Anyway, now I am more interested in modern stuff, and I even buy it myself (basically because when I go to the modelshop I have everything that is WW2, so I move onto WW1 and Modern things). So I decided to finally paint it. I took pics on the beach, and even improvised a small fire to give more realism. The kit as I remembered was quite good, although some things doesn't fit quite well, as the fuselage.
  9. Here is my humble build; as special features, I glued some metal foil to the door, and then glued a magnet inside the body, so the door can slide, and made a small tab to allow the doors of the pilots to open and close, and I had to substitue all windows except the front ones, as they had a hole in the middle, ruining the model. To see more pics, you can look at my blog; http://toysoldierchest.blogspot.com/201 ... c-172.html
  10. This is one of the kits I made for my birthday, it was fast to build but took forever to paint... for obvious reasons (I wish I had a gigantic tiger decal :joker: ) . Everything hand painted as you might expect. Straight out of the box, except for the inclusion of a Atlantic figure converted to pilot and a small ladder it appear from somewhere. As you can see, the undercarriage is detachable, as with all my latest models, which has given me inmense trouble, constantly breaking. The antenna on the nose was already broken and missing on the kit, and I have since made two which have broken and been lost. More pics in my blog; http://toysoldierchest.blogspot.com/
  11. Here is one of my christmas builds, although I bought it some years ago! (one of those you build before the christmas models arrives and makes you forget older unbuilt models). I searched for a long time for a camo and I finally went for a woodland camo used for BA-10s, adapted to both the tank and the gun. At one point I added too much inkings and weatherings, and I had to "clean" a bit the tank to don't make it look like it has been taken out from a lake! The crew is painted representing a reconaissance camo, although it ended up looking too much like the 60s uniform. I modified all the original poses as I didn't like them all being just seating on top of the tank doing nothing. 12. Here I show you pics of the latest model I've finished, the Horten. At least this "project" did exist and flew, although it crashed. I tried to represent compensate my lack of airbrush with careful dry brushing, it's not perfect but is good enough for me. I took the opportunity to paint two Luftwaffe personnel figures to show a small diorama. More pics and a review of the kit in my blog; http://toysoldierchest.blogspot.com/2013/11/revell-horten-ix-229-gotha-go-229-172.html
  13. Very nice diorama. It's quite incredible the difference of sizes between the vehicles, I wouldn't have believed the Mercedes was so big.
  14. Many thanks to all. Sorry for not replying before, I had trouble signing in and one of my computers broke down. Sernak, although some greek Battles didn't have markings on the top, I suppose others yes. I just really don't know and didn't think about it, I just followed the instructions. If some fighters had them, I suppose the Battles too. The only real pic I have doesn't clear the riddle; I have now seen that half of the modellers don't apply them, the rest does. Anyway, I like it more with full markings Jockney, I don't know the history of this particular example, but in overall the Greek Battles was quite acceptable, they attacked the italians and they scored some successes destroying italian convoys, before being wiped out by the Luftwaffe on the ground.
  15. Here is my greek Fairey Battle, the last model I've made. I hope the chipping hasn't been too excessive! I think it is the most realistic 1/72 aircraft I've completed. I started this model by Christmas, but lack of paints delayed it's finishing until very recently. More pics and a full review here; http://toysoldierchest.blogspot.com/2013/09/airfix-fairey-battle-172-ao3032-raf.html
  16. Excellent build, love the smoke trails on the wing.
  17. I normally don't use tweezers except when it is absolutely necessary. And yes, I agree rubber tips would be hugely useful, but I normally lose my parts when they come for not having enough glue, just at the moment of cutting them, or after cut them and left in the table, and mysteriously some evil dwarf eats them....
  18. This is my other 1/35 kit built, painted and finished to a good standard. It was a very cheap RPM kit, which I built and left to gather dust for 2-3 years as nearly all my 1/35 kits (I never find a camouflage exciting enough, and painting so much surface is tiring, I don't know, but I always leave the 1/35 kits unpainted) but decided to paint and finish, and it is one of the first models where I tried highlighting (concretely black lines painted with a thin brush). The pics were taken one day when the snow was melting, certainly not at this time of year . More pics and a full review here; http://toysoldierchest.blogspot.com/2013/07/rpm-czolg-dowodzenia-pzinz-126.html
  19. You have achieved a very nice battered look, with great realism. It is a model I lack in my collection, both in 1/35 and 1/72.
  20. Here I show you a fast assembly kit, as this Italeri Autocannone. I built it some time ago, but didn't photograph it until recently, when I got to the beach early and made pics without crowds and curious tourists! in it's ambient, it looks much better.... hope you like it. You can see more pics plus a review in my blog; http://toysoldierchest.blogspot.com/2013/07/italeri-autocannone-3-ro-with-9053-aa.html
  21. Great painting, the rust effect is wonderful. And don't worry for the missing bits of the star, it gives a nice sense of realism!
