  1. I've noticed that some of my Alclads do this, they smell like they're acrylics (smell of isopropyl) and wipe off the model really easily, the finish seems normal, but that's about it. I've heard of complaints from some one else as well who thinks their gold has become a lot thinner and doesn't cover nearly as well as other colours.
  2. That's a pretty interesting technique they're using there with the ruler. I it's not often that I do such fine work, but when I need a fine line I just get the masking take out

    Primer Spray

You might be interested in Plamo Colour primers, they spray very well and are pretty cost effective too, you can check them out at www.plamo.co.uk. They are comparable to Mr. Sufacer primers, but are better value for money.
  4. You could try using a white basecoat for all your models to avoid this problem, if you think it's the grey primer dulling the appearance of the paint the first time around.
  5. Hi Paul, they're lacquer, and I can mix up any colours you would like, for example, I can match Tamiya colours.
  6. You should check out my "Plamo Colour" range of primers and paints, good value for money and are very comparable to Mr. Colour products. You can check them out at www.plamo.co.uk

    Mr.Surfacer question

You can use Mr. Surfacer as a primer indeed, but as gcn said, Surfacer 500 isn't really suitable for a primer as it's quite coarse. You might actually be interested in my range of products called "Plamo Colour", they're a range of paints, thinners and primers aimed at being a UK alternative to Mr. Colour paints- I carry a primer that's equal to Mr. Surfacer 1200, but is cheaper and you get more in a bottle. You can check them out at www.plamo.co.uk Here's a review that some one on a forum is working on, where they're painting up a kit in my paints, so you can see how the primer is when it's applied, as well as the colours: http://gundam-eclipse.com/topic/4257797/1/?x=90#new

    Gunze.pl

Hi Duncan, you might be interested in my store's range of Lacquer modelling paints, they're just as good as Mr. Colour but with much better availability as they're made in the UK! The thinners are also by default leveling too. You can check out my website and range at www.plamo.co.uk. If you're interested in my range of paints, but can't find a colour you want, I also specially mix up colours at no extra cost.
  9. If it's Mr. Colour Lacquers, you'll need to use a lacquer thinner. You could give my Plamo Colour lacquer thinner a try, it works very well with Mr. Colour paints, but is a lot cheaper than Mr. Colour's own brand. You can find it here if you're interested http://plamo.co.uk/store/product_info.php?...;products_id=35. As for how to thin it, I thin paints spray best when they're the consistency of skimmed milk.

    Bulk Paint

Hi Andy, the shipping rates are just standard RM prices, I think you'll have to make an accout to get a shipping quote so it knows where it's quoting for. I've just made a mock account with a scottish address and the shipping rates are showin up for me. I'll PM you as well just in case you miss this.
  11. If you're having trouble with coverage of whites, reds and yellows, you should check out my Plamo Colour range of lacquer paints at www.plamo.co.uk. All colours have excellent coverage due to strong pigments in all my colours. You can cover grey primer with reds and yellow without the grey primer dulling the colours, and the white goes on extremely smoothly, you could easily cover a black base coat with my white in a few thin coats, and of course they all have a nice smooth finish. I believe they're better value than any other modelling paint, with one of my standard bottles having 6x the volume of paint than standard Tamiya and Mr. Colour bottles. Plus, they're made in the UK meaning excellent availability unlike Mr. Colour paints, which can be hard to source, and even when you can, quite expensive. Also, my grey surface primer is equivalent to Mr. Surfacer 1200 and can be used in all the same ways as it.

    White Gloss Paint

It's based on the pigment strength, often white pigment is quite weak in relation to the rest of the pigments found in a range of paints, this makes white hard to get good coverage with. I have my own website selling my own range of lacquer based modelling paints www.plamo.co.uk, and for the above reasons, my white has a dense pigment as well as a larger ratio of pigment than my other paints, this means you could, if you wanted, cover a black base coat, with white quite easily, if you wanted.
  13. I have to agree that those flake sizes are quite large, and I'm quite surprised that they didn't get back to you from Hiroboy, I've heard the same, that their customer service is usually good. I actually run my own store called Plamo UK with my own brand of paints, and I do a metallic one that is much much finer than both those Zero Paints and Citadel ones. Here's an example of my own metallic by itself, then covered in a clear red top coat in case you're interested in them. I think that flake scale is far more appropriate for 1:24 kits. I have to say as well, I try to pride myself on my customer service.
  14. Heavily concentrated, it does but you're talking 10 litres full concentration , however in the bottles, no, it's got a mild "sweet" smell to it, if you've used Mr. Surfacer, Mr. Surfacer stinks a lot more, my stuff is pretty mild really.
  15. You could check out and try my range of lacquer paints, I have a surface primer that is very comparable to Mr. Surfacer in its usage, but it is quite a bit cheaper than Mr. Surfacer, they self level, dry very tough are sandable, and can be used to fill scratches and fine gaps just like Mr. Sufracer. My store's address is www.plamo.co.uk if you're interested. Those who have tried them out have stuck to them because they were so impressed with the results. Here's an example of the primer in use:
