Well, this is my project for the upcoming GB

This is the 1/24 kit I believe previously issued by Hasegawa and no re-boxed and re-released by our German friends.

Despite being a curbside model (car forums lingo for a basic display piece with no-engine included) on inspection its a good looking kit, the cockpit is a little on the sparse side, the dashboard clips inside the bodyshell and a rudimentary gear stick and floorplan with no pedals (presumably well out of sight)

The bodyshell looks good, nice sharp moulding and all in proportion, I've read criticism of the Hasegawa mould having undersized side windows, but comparing with various photos I can't see it.

Decals are unfortunately tree-hugging nanny state imitations of the Rothmans 86/87 livery, albeit high quality and very sharply defined, but totally innacurate :(

I've also ordered a set of 1/20 seat belts (yeah I know, a little oversized but should be ok)

And this fella - I reckon he'll complement the car quite nicely - should be starting on his way over the atlantic as we speak ;)

Lastly to end on a sour note my first aftermarket purchase has been a bit of a let-down, these (on the right) are by the 'Museum Collection' , not as sharp as the revell set, but completely the wrong colour, I would have thought any faithful reproduction of a Rothmans Le-Mans car starts with the right shade of blue, sadly this is not the case, have a look for yourselves

Not very impressive eh ? The search goes on for a more suitable set :(

I bought a set of Rothmans 956 decals by Studio 27 that are pretty accurate in colour. Not sure if these are still available or even suitable, or if they may do a 962 set as well. I got mine from Grand Prix Models, but I've seen them at HobbyLink Japan's website too. You could try here:

Sean - the seatbelts and driver are on their way from Macs models in the US - he's an ex UK resident from Reading too :D

The belts are $12, and available in red, blue and black.

Actually on closer examination these kit decals are pretty accurate, certainly in the case of the 1987 24 Hour Nurburgring the kit decals appear to be spot on..

tobacco advertising must have been banned there

So it does appear that although the kit decals are sufficient if I want to do an accurate Group C racer... hmmm :pipe:

Wish I could offer some help with the decals.

I built the Tamiya 956 1983 Le Mans can driven to 2nd position by Derek Bell in about 1985 - and the kit had duplicate decals!

I was at this race, and the Silverstone debut of the 956 in 1982.

I've just gone through my spares and recognise some numbers - but can't find the spare sheet.

Looking forward to seeing your completed model.
