Eurofighter Tryphoon cockpit colour

Hi All,

I'm a little confused as to the Typhoon cockpit colour, most of the builds covered in magazines recommend a light grey colour similar to US Light Ghost Grey (Humbrol #127), but on this forum several members have posted it as Admiralty Grey (Humbrol #5). I have to say that most of the pictures I have ever seen of the Eurofighter show a light coloured cockpit with a darker grey sill/deck. I have to admit most of my reference pictures are of the prototypes and early aircraft so has the cockpit colour been changed?

Ok, so from this picture the main cockpit colour is light/medium grey with dark grey sills, not Admiralty grey or have I missed something or been mislead as to the lightness of Admiralty grey? In fact it looks almost the same grey as the Barley/Camouflage grey used on the fuselage looking at that photo.

I think it's the photograph, on my monitor the side panels and other areas of the cockpit the same colour as the rest of the cockpit, and it's darker than the fuselage grey. The pc is slightly overexposed, but it looks like Dark Admiralty Grey (which is more of a medium shade anyway). It's e of those colours that looks diferent on the aircraft than in the Humbrol tin!

The info on the colors I have came originally from Rob Monfea from the IPA aircraft test unit, so virtually from the horses mouth. The vast majority of UK military aircraft cockpits have been painted Dark Admiralty grey for the last 30 years.

Have a look at the interior door of this Sea King from Prime Portal, which should be the same colour, and note how it appears only slightly darker than the Medium Sea Grey of the fuselage.

However, for model you can claim scale effect and lighten it!!

My ears are burning...

As far as I am aware the cockpits are Admiralty grey, BUT you have to take into account scale effect. Admiralty grey on a model will probably look too dark, so I'd suggest using something lighter. Alternatively you could find some photos for reference and mix your greys to match them.

Yes I think you are probably right, allowing for scale effect the grey would seem lighter, after all Camouflage (Barley) grey isn't all that light itself in certain light conditions and it looks very similar to the cockpit colour, if you have seen the linked pictures posted by Graham above. Hope you have managed to put the fire in your ears out, can be painful that, not to mention the smell of ear wax mixed with hair, not nice!!!!! Lol.

Actually I have to say that I was thinking of using this colour myself in the end as it will probably look right given the scale effect note by Bobski above.
