    I meant, I have a non-VLS one so I could could justify getting a Flyhawk VLS one given a decent price.

    That's a new tool, right? I gave up waiting for Trumpeter to do one so I bought a Revell repack of the DML kit. I guess that's technically a non-VLS one so I could justify getting this one (and probably never getting around to building it).

    I would just note that there were two MiG-29Ks. There was the Soviet 9.31 which was developed alongside Su-33, it was a single-seater and it's what Trumpeter modelled in their MiG-29K 1/32 kit. The HB model is a Russian 9.41 which has a new canopy which was raised to provide better rear-view, but it uses the same two-seater canopy whether the variant is a single or double-seater. Personally, I dislike the looks of the newer one so just wanted to clear that out in case someone is looking for the earlier Soviet type.

    Thanks. Not much there for me; it's nice to see an alternative to Dragon Scharnhorst (though, Trumpy would have to be noticeably cheaper, too). Was there a link with armor novelties somewhere?

    Could be. Or it went defunct (since they announced an M4 Shilka, but never released it) and somebody bought it and rebranded it. The point I was trying to make is that it's not a new tool.

    Pretty sure this is not a new tool, but sourced from Hong Models which issued this kit. IIRC, somebody did a comparison back then which showed it's detail is better and more accurate than Meng, but it's quite over-engineered and thus requires more work to put together.

    It would make sense if the moulds are modular and they can just stack on different mould parts for the wings. Time will tell.

    Are those ZSU-23s perhaps those Hong Models ones? IIRC, they were more accurate in detail than Meng ones, but rather over-engineered, as well.

    Nice to see those KH kits resurrected. Hope their Mi-28 in 1:48 comes back to life, as well.

    Hmm, my reply was based on Homebee's title specifically mentioning 9.31, like so: "Expected in late October in China, Hobby Boss is to release a 1/48th Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-29K Izdeliye 9.31 " Fulcrum-D" kit - ref. 81786". Though, I guess the photo does make it look like the later Russian development one with a protruding common single/dual seat canopy (which IMHO is ugly and I have no interest of) and the HB page doesn't mention 9.31 so I guess you're right. All apologies.

    The 1/32 variant from Trumpeter has been available for like 15 years? And it has the wing fold.

    Oh, yes! I so wanted to have the 9.31 (together with other Soviet Union/Cold War could have beens), but since I already have the 1/32 9.15, I'd never find the space and time for another MiG-29 in 1/32. This solves the problem for me! I guess they'll release the 9.15 in 1/48 as well so I might be tempted to get rid of the 1/32 kit and go for the more space friendly one.

    Did they perhaps mention a release of a USN variant?

    Detail is very nice, but that's obviously 3D printed. Pardon my ignorance, but how do these relate to later engineering the kit into smaller parts and making injection moulds for those? Are these prints used to check the 3D model's shape and dimensions in practice?

    Hardly, it's too heavy for the MiG-29. Su-24M or Su-27 are more likely candidates for a rebox.

    With those looks, the F/X-32 could have only passed as a replacement for A-7, but that's not what was asked for. It's even fatter than the F-35 which is already too draggy thanks to the F-35B duct fan design.. IMHO, they should have copied the Super Hornet sales pitch and promise vast commonality while making the F-35A/C rather different (somewhat larger and slimmer) and thus better optimized for its role (i.e. less draggy and thus faster and with longer range, plus more internal storage and fuel).

    Now, that's interesting. I expect better detail and same or even cheaper price than Trumpeter (whose latest kits seem quite expensive).

    Disappointing, but not that shocking considering it's clearly visible on most of the test shots from 2022. Interestingly enough, they don't seem noticeable on the test shots from 2019?

    Hope they follow on with their Soviet SAM systems, rocket launchers, etc. E.g. I would love to have a few S-300V vehicles (among others), but in 1/35, they're just too big (and quite expensive) and in 1/72, too small (detail, small bits, etc.). 1/48 would be a perfect compromise, IMHO.

    Would be nice if they made one in 1/48, as well (to avoid spending a fortune on aftermarket for the ESCI kit). Here's hoping..

    I guess it's better late than never. Always nice to have an alternative, especially in the current situation (I know which one I'm NOT buying). Presumably it will be a downscale of their 1/32 kit (which I have somewhere). I remember it was panned for some dimensional accuracy issues? Since it's boxed as Trumpeter, presumably it might be more detailed? Sometimes I get the impression that HB kits are more simplified part number wise, but perhaps there's no logic there.

    It was a rebox of ESCI releases, IIRC.

    I wouldn't think they're going for mass appeal. They did most of the work (research, 3D) required here already for their 1/48 cockpit upgrade kits so it's a cool idea to make some extra money off that work. Shame the parachute's not included, though

    IMHO, it's noticeably smaller (mostly in width) and thus somewhat more acceptable in 1/350. Though, I'd take the 1/700 injection option, too, for starters (there's a resin Orange Hobby one, but too expensive for me).
